Game of Thrones - Season 2 - More Iceland Details *UPDATED* Now With 100% More Video

Thanks to IngvarSk68, fans have been turned on to the fact that Icelandic television station Rúv has a long piece featuring Game of Thrones (roughly 9 minutes long), and it’s a treasure trove of little details. But the one most fans will go crazy for? The fact that Rose Leslie is seen in costume in the role of Ygritte at the 7:10 mark or so (UPDATE: Presently it’s offline, for unknown reasons, but the Blog in the Bowl has some small screenshots of “>Comic Book Movie has some small screenshots of Leslie with Kit Harington)! For those who’ve not read the novels, the glimpse may be slightly spoliersh, so beware.

The quality is not of the best, alas, but it gives a sense of things, in any case.

Other details include the fact that initially they were thinking of filming in Iceland in the summer, to use the glaciers exclusively, but later in the year has provided them more options. Scenes from Iceland will appear from episodes 5 through 8 and then episode 10 (shades of the way that they skipped the Wall for an episode or two last season). First Vík will feature in episode 5, Director David Some good details about the directors can be gleaned from this piece, as well. Nutter is shooting episodes 6 and 7 at Vík as well, according to the report. At a guess, this implies episodes 8 and 10 are part of the four episodes that Alan Taylor is filming.

Looking at the list of directors, we know David Petrarca filmed episode 4, and Neil Marshall the pivotal episode 9. So that leaves 1-3 and 5 to be sorted out (assuming our speculation that Taylor is directing 8 and 10 is correct). Two of those four belong to Alan Taylor, we’re pretty sure (episode 1 certainly seems likely), and the other two would presumably be directed by first season cinematographer Alik Sakharov, or Sakharov and Petrarca, as we know Marshall was on board only for episode 9.

*****UPDATE*****
Here is the video mentioned yesterday. This version on Youtube has English subtitles and Ygritte is seen walking behind the crew on camera at about 6.30 or a few seconds after. Enjoy.

*****UPDATE #2*****
Apparently the video was pulled yesterday because of the video footage of Ygritte and HBO had a ban on footage of new characters. Here's the article translated by Strong Belwas on Winter-is-Coming:
"They got clear instructions, just as other media did, to not air this character”, said Snorri owner of Pegasus. In the cultural television program Djöflaeyjan (The Devil’s Island) you could see a glimpse of a character from season 2 of Game of Thrones which the producers had stricly forbidden to be used in icelandic media coverage.

Her looks were top secret and Snorri says he is unhappy about this. “There was no written agreement, just a verbal ‘gentlemen’ agreement. Of course there is nothing we can do about it now but I will be talking to the people at RUV (national broadcasting television), this was strictly forbidden.”

Þórhallur Gunnarsson, editor of the show, says this is a unfortunate mistake. “The program was immediately taken of the web until we were able to fix it. We just missed these shots and we feel terrible about this. I have spoken with Snorri and I feel bad about this because I don’t want to let him down.”
Snorri says that everything else has worked out well. The crew had a day off on tuesday and then there was a lot of snowing. “But now the roads have been cleared and we are here at Höfðabrekku in excellent weather conditions” says Snorri. The crew departes from Iceland on 11. december"

  1. Right now the video plays only the intro and 5 seconds of D&D talking. If the full video returns to the site I will get it posted to SpoilerTV. Let's hope!!!

  2. I'm never sure whether to take a look at many GoT posts. Don't want to get to spoilered, but on the other hand I also enjoy some info on the upcoming season. Of course I could just start reading the books, but I've read so much fantasy related stuff in the last 2 years, that I need a break and want to read just something completely different.

  3. Until the Icelandic site fixes the video or until April?

  10. Actually not exactly....

In the first 2 episodes there should be footage of the Night's Watch visiting Crastor and Gilly that was filmed in Ireland on a set.

  11. Felidae82  I updated the video with one from a different site and not the one I actually captured and edited. This one has the footage of Ygritte and Job that got the video pulled yesterday.

  12. Having flown over the glaciers in Iceland (commercial flight, nothing fancy), the landscape is fantastic for this.
