I work in psychology and the amount of times TV shrinks say stupid things infuriates me. That has gotta be one of the most overused stupid things TV shrinks say. And yeah sometimes it applies to TV characters, but mostly not. Deb had over a year with Quinn, maybe more depending on the time frame of Season 5, how was he inappropriate or unavailable?
if she said "no" about the wedding to Quinn maybe it's because she knows he is not for her... may be for a year or months but not for all her life. So yep deb had some difficult relationship, a killer, a dead cop... and Quinn. May be it would shock people but i think be with Quinn was to have a good time with somebody to feel herself loved by someone, but nothing serious cause she knows inside her.
But that's it's "funny" it's she always have feeling for weird people or unaproritate people: a killer, Quinn which was not really a Stable personn (even if Deb changed him)... and now Dexter a serial killer >.<. Even if there are not true brother/sister it would be weird to see them together...
I have always thought that they would try to go there but Dexter is asexual and unfeeling and it she tried to get on that type of intimate level with him his deviancy would become very apparent, that's why he choose Rita, someone who was abused and not in a rush to get physical and didn't ask a lot of questions... but Dexter always says at least once a season that if he could change for one person it would be for Deb (albeit to be a better brother) and now that he has Harrison I guess he just wants to be a better father, I hope they don't go there but hey, they have taken a lot of liberties with the source material and I find I still like the show
as much as dex/deb would be weird... well, I've kinda waited for it since season 1 :D I can't believe they're actually going there, I thought their chemistry was just the result of my crazy imagination O.O
God, why come up with such a story-line? Even though they're not biologically related, I always saw Deb & Dexter as brother and sister and for me there was never a hint there might be something romantically between them. And I sure as hell don't want to see anything happening in that direction, that would be incredibly awful!
I posted about this in another thread earlier today. When I first saw that psychiatrist clip, I was in denial. I thought there was no way they'd go there. Then I read this week's Spoiler Room column and it was intimated that it is indeed where this is headed. Although I agree that Deb's interactions with Dexter never indicated anything too incestuous, going back over the seasons I can see where there is a decent pile of other anecdotal evidence to support the idea.
I never thought of them in that way either. I honestly believe that the writers pulled this idea out of thin air and then poured over stories from previous seasons to find behavior from Deb to support their plot idea. (Of course, this is all speculation on my part based on a preview clip and a post in a spoiler column so it could all be bullsh*t) :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
great stuff, thank you!
ReplyDeleteOMG! That first one! ---It's such an oxymoron, but in season one I kind of wondered about this 'prospect' and then dismissed it.

ReplyDeleteNever thought of them that way so I guess I never really paid attention to possible clues...
