I keep meaning to go back and watch the rest of the first season, I stopped after about half a dozens episodes, I just found it so dull compared to the Brit version :( I don't like how the vamp changed esp, and the ghost has none of the warmth and depth of Annie imo.
i thought this got cancelled bucause it just cant beat the origanal by the BBC they changed it to much and ruined it id recomend watching the Brittish version witch this copied
Hate the werewolf design. Hugely. (A werewolf should invoke the impression of a wolf and this design did not.) But I did like the arc with him dealing with that animalistic/rage element being added to his personality. Hated the way they ended the story. Then went to the pregnancy story without really building that relationship. I don't think it's gonna work.
With the ghost...I kind of understood the change they made in the character and in terms of doing 12 eps instead of 6 I thought is was a good idea. (though I think they played the same note, with the 'make the best friend realize he's an abuser' storyline, one too many times)
I didn't really have any major problem with the vampire arc. I really like Sam W. as an actor. He brought a vulnerability to the character that the British actor couldn't completely get to. But I have to agree with you on the dull. There'd be episodes that, when I sat down and tried to analyze why they weren't great eps...my list was kind of small. But they were just FLAT, but it didn't really feel like the energy was off or anything...it was just flat. And, lets face it, you get rights to an existing product and you're going to suffer comparisons. Changing character names isn't going to help that at all. (??) They needed to hit it out of the park and they didn't but, for me there was potential for it to grow into something interesting and fun. Which is why I'll check out a couple of eps of the second season.
I like the British version better too. Even though I like this version I always felt it lacked the energy and emotional depth that the British one has.
The handful of episodes I did watch just felt empty, kinda like filler, and yes I am including the pilot with that description too, lol. The Brit version moves at a very fast pace, a lot happens in each episode to each character, it has to when you only have 6 episodes to get a full arc in.
Being a Brit obviously makes me more in tune with the sense of humour in the BBC version too I guess. I think American black humour can be a lot less subtle at times, I tend to find it's more based on the horror rather than the absurdity of a situation.
I liked the dude playing the vamp, but they had to go and sex the character up which I didn't like. Why do vamps have to be sparkly :( lol
Do you mean Michael Socha, who played the son last season? He tweeted that he had finished filming a while back, so I think he should be in it a fair bit. I thought he and Robson Green were amazing last year, gonna be hard to top, lol.
You just gave me a major happy dance moment. Every time Robson Green was on screen I couldn't move. The Pack and The Wolf Shaped Bullet eps were riveting.
The first series of the British version was amazing. The second series faltered. The third series was a total train wreck. I think US Being Human has a chance to really shine now that it looks like they're letting go of the UK storylines. I wish they'd done it sooner, but you should try the series out next season. This vid makes it look very interesting.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Thanks for the video..but just letting you know the video/audio is way off sync. Or is just me?
ReplyDeleteBut regardless, this season looks amazing!!!
It's not just you. I had the same sync problem.

ReplyDeleteGive me a few mins and I'll re-upload it.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the first season and like the roads that this piece said they are looking to explore.

I hope you're not just using this show to just American black humor....it's not a good example. :-D At least I don't find it that funny.
ReplyDeleteSo....being a Brit...do you know if the young werewolf dude is coming back for the next season of Being Human?
Do you mean Michael Socha, who played the son last season? He tweeted that he had finished filming a while back, so I think he should be in it a fair bit. I thought he and Robson Green were amazing last year, gonna be hard to top, lol.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about the werewolf. It looks well, weird. I sometimes look away when they actually show it.
