n a conference call with reporters on Thursday, the show’s cocreator confirmed that Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott will not be back as series regulars in Season 2.
“The second season of the show will be a brand new home or building to haunt,” Murphy said. “It will also have a new overriding theme… and a different cast of characters.”
Those castmembers that do return will be playing completely different characters. “There will be familiar faces and some new faces,” says Murphy. “[But they will be] playing completely different creatures and monsters… People that are coming back will be playing completely new characters.”
An announcement about the new cast and storyline will be unveiled in February.

When does season 2 starts??????
ReplyDeleteProbably next October, close to Halloween, like this year.
ReplyDeleteI don't like this, I had hope that Connie Britton would live on, sad times.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, lets get her someone where else, The Good Wife maybe?
"Those castmembers that do return will be playing completely different characters."
ReplyDeleteDon't get it :S
WTF? This show is ''TOTALLY CRAZY'', but i like it.
ReplyDeletePuta serie ''porra-louca''...
Some of the cast members from season one will be coming back, but they won't be the characters they currently are.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how they can call It season 2 of American Horror Story when nothing Is being carried over from Season 2.Not the House. No CHaracters. No Storylines.Bringing actors back In different roles Is just hockey.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty disturbing (and possible distracting).
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just the actor who play's the Infantata. I would be ok with that, LOL.
This was the plan before the series even started - That's why it is called "American Horror Story". It can be about anybody, any story.
ReplyDeleteTV Line say that there's a clue in the last three episodes as to what the next season will be.
ReplyDeleteHmm, interesting. I'll have to go back and watch again
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that came to mind straight away is Larry going to jail in Illinois was it? But I hope its not that because that would be way too obvious.
ReplyDeletea brave move!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds liek the frickin' WORST thing they could do. I'm devastated by this :/ The show/house was perfectly fine as it was, why make such drastic changes? Ugh, it better pay off.
ReplyDeleteRyan said this would happen in interviews BEFORE the show even started. That's why it's called American Horror Story, not Murder House.
ReplyDeleteGod, she'd be good on that show. :)
ReplyDeleteConstance mentioned "Richmond" in the finale...
ReplyDeleteI see. I never read/watched those interviews. Regardless, I don't like the idea... yet. Perhaps I'll end up liking it, who knows, but I did grow fond of the set-up we already have. :/
ReplyDeleteOhh I really hope not. That would be just as horrible as that blondy coming back as a never mentioned twin sister in HEROES.
ReplyDeleteI actually think the anti-christ and Jessica Lange will be brought back. Ryan Murphy enjoys lying about the future of his shows.
ReplyDeleteI am firmly In don't like this Idea.It seems like now a waste of time watching season 1.However my bet IS returning actors as new characters will be recurring season 1 cast members not regular cast members.
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree, Season 1 entertained me which is what TV is meant to do. If season 2 entertains me also I'll be more than happy.
ReplyDeleteI do agree it's a brave move but this show has already taken several risks so I'm excited to see what they bring us next Season
I definitely agree with DarkUFO. By your logic Chris Roberts it would be pointless to watch The Twilight Zone or the monster-of-the-week episodes from The X-Files because they aren't related to the rest of the season/seasons. Maybe AHS is shaping up to be some kind of anthology series with a different plot every season not every episode.
ReplyDeletewow! We are going to have to wait a lot :( Thnks 4 the info :)
ReplyDeleteI hope its a haunted hotel. This move would be ok with me if they did a 2 part halloween episode and somehow managed to include the Harmon's and Tate and Constance and little Anit-christ Michael. however i don't like the idea that some actors would play different characters id want it all to exist in the same world and lead up to some epic conclusion.
ReplyDeleteLooks great. I hope the new history work, because the season one is amazing.
ReplyDeletePlease Constance and Michael back pleaseeeeeeeeeee
What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteClearly, this would be a different universe.
ReplyDeleteI read this a few times in the past hour and at first my reaction to it was that it was bad news for the show. But after I read it a second and third time, thinking about it, my reaction changed from a negative one to an upbeat one.
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else said before me, it is a very bold move to do this. But if they can pull this off, then it would be a great viewing pleasure for us fans! Can't wait until October 2012!
It's going to be a good Halloween for sure!
ReplyDeleteYeah, a long wait, but it will be worth it!!
ReplyDeleteI never seen the Good Wife but have heard that is is pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that until you said something! Thanks! I always like when the shows creaters have something special for their shows. Like with The Shield, one of the best shows and series premieres and finales ever...., Shawn Ryan had planned before the show aired that it would end badly for Vic Mackey and that it would last seven years but the timeline on the show would be three years.
ReplyDeleteSo... I've been thinking about it (I was quick to judge (Yes, I'm an idiot)), and I guess it wouldn't actually be that bad really. An anthropology series is quite a cool idea. Hopefully they can get a few of my favourite actors/actresses back, though!
ReplyDeleteI was expecting a development to come from the 'Michael Harmon' story after seeing him kill the Nanny, and with Constance mothering the Antichrist... Would these spoilers assume there isn't really a story to be had from it?
Well, I have my doubts, but theoretically this might work. Obviously it can't be one of the main actors (Connie Britton, etc), but maybe bring back some of the supporting actors: Denis O'Hare (Larry), Kate Mara (Hayden), either Matt Ross or Lily Rabe (Charles and Nora Montgomery), and, I'm somewhat hesitant to say this, possibly Evan Peters (Tate).
ReplyDeleteI do hope they'll follow up on Constance and Michael, though.
Not necessarily. The "Twilight Zone" re-used actors all the time, and it just played as different stories, totally different stories. I believe that is what the producers are trying to imply here. Different stories every season. Instead of one off episodes, it more like one off seasons.
ReplyDeleteYeah It will, but at least we are going to ahve some news in Feb. :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea and look forward to a fresh, new, horror story. The finale was a wrap for the Harmons. They're a happy family with a goal, which is to protect potential homeowners. Not much more to say. Bring on the next story.
ReplyDeleteHopefully Jessica Lange will return...sad that Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott won't be back though :(
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely something I agree with!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is. It's become one of my all-time favorites since season 2. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed, I never thought it would, but it's not one of the shows I most look forward to every week.
ReplyDeleteIf your going to a new location don't have returning cast play new characters, that is just stupid. Either stick with what you've got or start all over. I loved AHS but I give this show 2 seasons, 3 tops then it's going to get cancelled.
