Weeds - Renewed for an eighth season

Nov 11, 2011

Negociations took some time but this is now official : Weeds will be back next summer with a 13-episode eight season.

If Showtime would be kind enough to add 3 episodes to The Big C's third season (the show has been renewed for only 10 episodes instead of the usual 13) so that its timeslot buddy Weeds doesn't feel alone for 3 weeks, that would be nice.

As of today, Weeds has 89 episodes, over 7 seasons. At the same time next yeat, the Showtime dramedy, launched on August 7, 2005, will have 102 episodes. It already is Showtime's longest running dramedy series.

By the way, since I was checking that out on Wikipedia, here are the 10 Showtime series that have the most episodes :

1/ The Outer Limits (1995-2000) : 132 episodes (picked up by SyFy for one more season).
2/ Stargate SG-1 (1997-2002) : 110 episodes (picked up by SyFy for five more seasons).
3/ Brothers (1984-1989) : 115 episodes.
4/ Weeds (2005 - ?) : 102 episodes (including season 8).
5/ Queer as Folk (2000-2005) : 83 episodes.
6/ Soul Food (2000-2004) : 74 episodes.
7/ Dexter (2006 - ?) : 72 episodes (and the show is likely to get 24 more episodes over two more seasons).
8/ The L Word (2004-2009) : 70 episodes.
9/ Poltergeist - The Legacy (1996-1998) : 66 episodes (picked up by SyFy for one more season).
10/ Californication (2007 - ?) : 60 episodes (including season 5, premiering in 2 months).

  3. Great News after that cliffhanger Finale they Needed to give it one last season. I hope season 8 is the last and that they wrap up the storylines because 8 seasons is a good run.

  4. I was done with it at Season 6, but kept watching to finish the series up. Surprisingly last year was better than expected for me.

That said, Wrap it up now. One year to do whatever you want and be done.

  5. Please let it be its last season, it has fallen from grace so badly

  6. Thanks for that tidbit about the ten longest-running Showtime series. I had no idea "Stargate SG-1" originally aired there! That's so weird.

  7. I disagree with everyone. I was hoping for another season, I love this show. I'm sad that this will most likely be the last, I REALLY doubt they'll have another season after season 8.

  8. I never knew that either but now the re-runs on Showtime Beyond makes more sense, I always thought it got a first run syndication or something like that

  9. I'm glad we get to wrap this all up and yes, I do hope this the LAST season and what the hell... The Big C is only getting 10 episodes, are you s---ting me?

  10. God, people, if it was so fucking bad, then why stick around to fucking watch it? I've loved it since the beginning. You thought they were gonna stick around in the suburbs forever? They had to try new things; and if you don't like this new change, then go watch another show, like CSI or Law and Order or something.

I hope season 8 isn't the last. There are so many possibilities with the show; so much they can do with each and every character. I, for one, will be extremely sad if season 8 is to be the last one.
