Lori is pregnant! How is she going to deal with this revelation?
Robert Kirkman: It's definitely a terrifying thing to consider in this world with the state of things, it's like going back to pioneer days and having to worry about how you're going to give birth and how you're going to survive the pregnancy. This is a very complicated process in modern times, it requires a lot of interaction with doctors and none of that stuff is available, so it's going to be terrifying for her.
The big question is whether the baby is Rick's or Shane's. How is that going to affect the dynamic among the three of them in particular?
Kirkman: This is going to be a catalyst for Shane. Once he finds out about this, assuming he does find out about this, he's going to react pretty strongly to this. His whole reason for worrying about Lori and Carl (Chandler Riggs) is that they've become a surrogate family for them. If he believes this baby is going to be his, that's just going to solidify his state with this family. It's definitely going to throw a wrench in the whole love triangle thing that's going on.

I just hope they don't give the whole who's the father mystery that big of a storyline. It wasn't a big deal in the comics, but then again, Shane wasn't around anymore in the comics.

Let's speculate a bit and admit that Rick knows about the pregnancy since the CDC (episode TS-19) due to the blood sample tests.
ReplyDeleteIn this scenario, either he has done is math and finds the timming strange or he hasn't had the time to cope with it yet (escaping the CDC and arriving to Hershell's farm took one or two days, tops).
If he has done his math - and kept the secret from Lori - I'm sure this love triangle will have a short life, because:
a) Rick will wait for Lori to find out for herself she's pregnant, he buries his doubts for her love and they both assume the baby and Shane is out (even out of the group);
b) Emotional control is lost and someone gets killed;
c) Rick's doubts are too strong or Lori admits the baby is Shane's and Rick leaves with Carl.
If there's one or more deaths (even Lori could get killed as colateral damage from a fight between her two alpha males) this story line is over;
If none of them three dies then they could always get back to it, kind of like Merle's story.
I find this possibiliy the least expectable.
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI thought they were interviewing another Kirkman! Good, Jim!
