Thinking out loud: AOLTV's Maureen Ryan wrote negative "It's good at being tedious." - I liked the "beautifully-filmed project", the cast, and the storyboard so far. i think we'll have to wait for the next few episodes, especially as far as the boredom (Metacritics)

Hell on Wheels is okay. I'm giving it another chance tonight, but not sure if I like it.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving "Hell on Wheels" so far. It's "Deadwood" without all the profanity and a better longterm storyline.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I feel, a lot of my judgement I think is biased because I know it's AMC so I kind of want it to be good.

ReplyDeleteI think the problem with Hell on Wheels is all the disjointed stories in the pilot. Over time I'm sure most of them will combine into a more linear story, but the pilot had too many short scenes connected to one another by odd segues.
ReplyDeleteIt happens with almost every large ensemble cast pilot that's only one hour long. Some people may not like a slow building drama, but I love them as a rule. Of course it being serialized makes me very happy too.
It did not blow me away, but it had good production quality, fun characters and I was drawn to Cullen from the opening scene alone. A man on a revenge hunt for those involved in his wife's death (and assumed rape). Who can't feel for him?
