Prime Suspect - Cancelled

15 Nov 2011

Thanks to Bruce_F for the heads up.

Maria Bello is hanging up her hats. NBC’s low-rated new cop drama Prime Suspect, which was left off the network’s midseason schedule, will wrap production this month. I hear that the show’s cast and crew were notified of the shutdown just as NBC was making its midseason schedule announcement yesterday afternoon. Prime Suspect will complete Episode 12, which is now wrapping filming, and Episode 13, which starts shooting this week, before shutting down for the holiday and for the season.

  1. They need to find a vehicle for Maria Bello. She was the only thing worth watching.

  2. Somebody give Kirk Acevedo a plane ticket to Vancouver right now!

  3. So put Community back on in its place? Though that 1/2 hour difference may cause a problem or two...

  4. Sad for Prime Suspect, but I'm not broken up about it like I will be about Community.

  5. Charlie Francis, yes please!

  6. The show grew on me as it went on , but it never really excited me or felt like anything new or different. NBC gave it every chance and really tried to get more viewers, but I think a lot of people felt like I did. It was a decent enough show, but jsut not exciting enough or well-done enough to keep my attention....

  7. Even though it was getting better and I did like Maria Bello ,I gave up on it after episode 5 just wasn't holding my interest

  8. Sad news for NBC, but it was an ok show with a great cast but it didn't hold my interest. I hope that this means that Community can come back, although I keep thinking that they want to keep the 10pm spot for a drama.

  9. Not surprising a reboot of a very successful highly critically acclaimed show was always going to be hard, I do feel for the cast and crew they seemed like good people, I hope they find new jobs soon

  11. Nor surprised, but I was crossing my fingers for the show...

  12. Not surprised about this. Now lets get Charlie Francis back on Fringe!

  13. Well that's sad, expected but sad.  I found Prime Suspect growing on me after a slow start,i can't imagine what they are going to put on in its place?

  14. :( I kinda like Prime Suspect, I think the characters are great but their lacking in good cases and all that.  But this surely makes me rather reluctant in following any show by NBC.

  15. Kirk, PLEASE come back to Fringe! We need u! We love our Charlie!

  16. Hmmm, was saving that show to watch later when there's not that much quality TV on the air.
Otherpeople already said it, get Acevedo back on Fringe, he was the best character on that show and it might revive my interest for Fringe too which has died down since they killed him off.

  17. Can't say I am suprised at all.  Not a good show.  Hopefully that means Kirk can return to Fringe.

  18. Agreed. Plus, I kept sitting there thinking "Where's Helen Mirren?" Like she was magically going to walk in and take charge.

  19. IT truly is beyond insane to name it after one of the all-time best crime dramas, then change the lead's name, then change the entire way the series works and not have any connection of any kind to the original series! XD

If they had at least kept the premise of knowing who the suspect was and building a case to catch them... hence the title of "Prime SUSPECT" I could forgive it.... Instead they turned it into the typical US procedural.. Shame.

  20. I loved this show. I don't get why some show fail. Maria Bello was awesome in this.

  21. I know, I was thinking the same thing, US versions are RARELY better  (yes, I am looking right at you Office), the only exception I can think of is Homeland, off the top of my head, but I do love me some Kirk and Maria, maybe they can send her over to SVU, but I am pissed b/c they killed Kenny (I love him in anything)  on Sons of Anarchy and now THIS show is cancelled, bummer to the max.

  22. I like Kenny too!
Why does FX feel the need to blow him up in every series? XD

  23. This show, Community and Grimm were the only things that I have watched on NBC since Heroes and I didn't even watch the last two seasons of that. It amazes me that NBC/Universal has under it's umbrella USA, Sy Fy and Bravo which all have great original programming for their niche market but the only thing NBC has to offer is Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock (SNL lite), both shows which I hate with a fiery passion (and they are even killing Community). The exes need to pull their heads out of their asses.

  24. I think I read somewhere, that if his character has to go, he wants, to leave with a bang.

  25. I don't understand the NBC choice. The viewer are so down ?

  26. How the Hell did the writers go so wrong with this show? WATCHABILITY, you Harvard educated morons, is the main ingredient to a show. Not story formulas and market research and by the numbers bullshit, which is what this show became fast. Everything they marketed this show on, her looks and tomboy charm and heated relationship with her boyfriend's ex-wife and so-called inspired intellect, they abandoned it all for formulaic, horribly uninteresting cases and police procedure and unwatchable two dimensional male characters flopping and clowning around. Then, they bring her sister in ONCE, and abandon her for the tired ass father daughter in a bar relationship. The show is Hell on the eyes, its no wonder its getting cancelled. Maria Bello's performance had sooooo much potential early on but even she became an unlikeable, pointlessy bitchy cardboard cutout gruffing and growling at everybody for no good reason. The writers killed the damned show with their refusal to obey the rules of watchability, which usually involves female characters with strong appeal and a chance to watch them interact with other people in fascinating ways. The Office and Law and Order: SVU are still on the air after eight and thirteen years for a reason.

  27. VERY disappointed about Prime Suspect's cancellation.  Maria Bello is terrific and the show is nicely paced with unique characters.  Initially sceptical because of Helen Mirren's strong identity in the primary role, I was pleasantl y surprised to discover Ms. Bello and also pleased that the show doesn't pander to those who don't want to pay attention.  If nothing else, please find another vehicle deserving of Ms. Bello's talents.
