Awsome Anybody know what they ment bye the coutdown to the season finale is on are they doing a short season or they just saying that cause it will be the last episode of 2010 like they been using the midseason finale for most shows now?
can someone answer me a question please? Why is the visual effects for both TN and OUAT suckier then say a syfy show budget like stargate or even smallville and supernatural? Idk it just seems like they could do better after watching these kinds of shows. Now on to the review. Tonights VFX was descent. In VFX ratings thats like a 3/5. It wasnt bad but it wasnt good it was just descent enough to be enjoyable. The only VFX that kinda sucked was the fire on the dinosaur it didnt look good to me. The storys were good i was actually mainly interested in seeing the jim story and seeing if they could catch Skye (o y skye? I like her and they r making her the mole....although i can see why she's doing it, i just hope taylor and jim can understand. The taylor and mira story was fun but it was more about answering some questions and adding a few like what happened in Somalia? Im guessing it has to do with talyor’s wife. Maybe she was killed indirectly or directly by taylor? One can only wait….2…..more….weeks….booo! Like I said I liked the story’s and I have to admit giving some story off of the Shannon kids on skye and Reynolds actually felt good for a change. I like zoey though so cant blame her for anything lol. Since we know one character that is main will die im going with either Mira (maybe the future bosses get tired of her?) or (sadly) Skye or reynolds. It just seems to either bf or gf will die and cause some drama for season 2 for the Shannon kids. But im leaning towards Mira lol.
they are only doing a 12 (or 13 depending on counting the finale as one or 2) episode season. The budget was to big or something to go a full 22 but we will find out in the next month or 2 if its renewed for a second season.
I think the budget was part of it and the other factor was the huge amount of post-production time needed to do the VFX. By the time they would finish filming and processing a back 9 (if the got a back order) the Fall season would be over! XD
It is honestly shocking how bad the VFX are I agree. In the dark they are decent, but in the light of day they are just bad. Worse than BBC or SyFy series! XD
I think part of the reason they stand out as so terrible is that the series wants to highlight the dinosaurs from time to time. They actually zoom in or give a nice wide shot of the dino as the focus of the shot. Shows like Supernatural know their limitations and try to hide the VFX faults in shadows or quick edits and not highlight the faults in focused shots for extended amounts of time.
I want to like it more than I do, I like the concept heaps (love Heinlein books and Terra Nova reminds me of several) but its just not gripping enough. Through the whole Taylor/Mira thing all I could think of was first one gets the upper hand, then the other, then something else happens and they have to work together, some plot reveal, some bonding in action, then back to status quo: its so by the books! Even the spy reveal was watered down after we were shown the why - tortured teen angst face!
I did like Mira shutting Taylor up - "I spent 118 days out here alone -" "Well, I'm coming up on a 1000." But to negatively balance that was the scene with the release of the anklosaur - everything turned up roses way too easily. Maybe they're saving the interesting stuff for later, but hints aren't enough for me anymore...
I hope this show gets a second season but I hope the retool it a bit, really listen to the fans and make it more compelling, maybe even put it on in the 9p slot so they can do a little more, maybe try to move away from the family angle just a bit (in my opinion, a whole lot), tell us why they had Zoe at least, I need more answers and some more back story
Season finale? They spent 17.5 million on what 10 episodes? I really want to like this show i still think it has potential, but they need to re-work it.We need more characters, less 1 family crap every week.Could also use more exploration outside the gates, could use some Dino action.but lord please get some better looking dinos, please!
I was mostly okay with the ep. It seemed like the primary reason for the episode's existence was to find out more about Mira. So, I didn't have too much problem there. the only thing that popped me out of the episode was the experience police detective...sets someone to processing vital and fragile evidence...and there is NO ONE LEFT TO GUARD THE MACHINE??!?!?!?!?
I'm a little flummoxed about the decrying of VFX in most shows. I think it's really justified here because the show itself made such a big deal out of how much money they were throwing a the VFX. But, OUAT, Grimm, Primeval...for the most part are bubblel gum. Unless I get kicked out (and maybe it's just that my expectations for tv VFX is set at a level that they have to be disastrous for me to notice) of the story by something really laughable, I don't bother commenting on the VFX in TV.
Gads, I was just reminded of a scene in a soap opera that ran a while back. This character was supposed to be a fabulous artist with amnesia. She was drawing pictures of this man (the husband she'd forgotten.) They finally turn the picture to the camera and it was HORRIBLE. Then a crawl appeared below the scene that said "Yeah, we know the picture looks nothing like the guy. Just go with us." I LMAO
VFX apart, I think the idea of putting Taylor and Mira to get acquainted properly, that is, in battle, was a good one. They worked together. I'd like to see more of them interacting.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteThanks good to knows
ReplyDeleteDecent episode, with some good exposition and set up for the finale, but again the familyish parts dragged for me...

ReplyDeletegreatt episodeee!!
ReplyDeletefinally they revealed the spy although I did like the episode it wasn't one that really held my attention
ReplyDeleteOh I agree-- I think that the Zoe angle was just put there so they would have a reason to go to Terra Nova beyond the whole Earth is in peril thing.
ReplyDeleteI would like it if in S2--they focused more on the Sixers and the history there much more interesting
