Loved the episode and I was so glad to learn that Deeks wasn't actually fired, but that it was all an undercover thing to get him back with the LAPD, to find the mole. I love that thing between him and Kensi.
What an incredibly disappointing episode this was. The way Kalstein was talking it up on Twitter I was expecting way more than what we got. It felt rushed, silly and terribly bland.
The worst of it: -Deeks wasn’t fired after all! It was all an elaborate clusterfuck of a plan! Everyone was in on it but Kensi because...of some ridiculous reason! What? Hetty feels Kensi is that bad at her job (selling lies is a part of that very job) that she couldn’t know about the plan and still seem believable? Lazy writing there. They couldn’t come up with anything better? -Obvious mole is obvious. And when the mole started going on about his sad family past and...blah, blah, blah. I tuned out. -When Kensi started the whole "Let’s talk about our relationship" bull. Really, Kens? The banter between Kensi and Deeks aside, not much is done in the way of showing believable bonding and growth between the two and suddenly I’m supposed to believe Kensi wants to talk about their future? Ridiculous. It could have been handled so much better. And maybe it was the way it was written, but when she wanted to talk with Deeks about it, I wanted to yell to him: "RUN! IT’S A TRAP!" -When Deeks’ superior was going on about "I see this is where you belong..." It was too rushed and because of what little was shown in this episode it just fell flat completely. Everything felt flat, actually. It felt all dialed in but every actor. Yikes. They’re not the top of the top, but even I expected better.
Yeah, yeah. I realize that this show is silly, cliche and lighthearted when compared to similar shows of its kind, but I really was looking forward to a more grittier, deeper episode. And maybe learning new info about Deeks’ past--or, hell, even Kensi’s through Deeks--and seeing some growth in character. Have Deeks grow up a bit. Nothing. I really would have preferred Deeks to have been fired. Maybe then we’d see this "soul searching" that Kalstein was going on about.
I REALLY need to respond to this rant. Mostly because I facepalmed throughout the entire thing.
-It's been obvious for a VERY long time that something is happening offscreen. I think you're forgetting that this is an NCIS show, A LOT of stuff has happened offscreen over the lifespan of the original that we never actually got to see because it was used for dramatic effect. I don't think there is a secret relationship going on really, I think more that they're spending more time together after work than they're letting on. This is made obvious by the fact that they've been learning a lot about each other, knowledge of which can't be explained by their usual banter.
I think, just like with Tiva in the original, that they use their job as an excuse not to move in the obvious direction, so when that obstacle was removed the forward momentum made her go a little too fast. As for talking about their future, NCIS was the thing that brought the two of them together. NCIS made them partners and NCIS is also what made them friends by requiring that they spend so much time together while on the job. With that tether (supposedly) gone between them, it's perfectly natural to wonder about their future in each others lives.
People constantly forget that while the characters aren't real, the writers are. Things don't move forward logically.
I liked the episode, but I think it would be really surprising if for once the suspect also was the culprit. It was so obvious that it had to be Quinn. I knew it from the moment he showed up and it was perfectly clear when Deeks told him about the raid. So, everything that was meant to be surprising wasn't surprisinig at all. The concept is getting a bit old. Still, NCIS Los Angeles is my favorite TV series at the moment and I enjoyed the episode, although the banter between Kensi and Deeks was a bit awkward. Is their "thing" all they can (or actually can't) talk about?
I knew Deek's wasn't fired,i do not understand the reasoning behind keeping Kensi in the dark? If not to go forward,to explore her feelings for Deek's,then what? I read all the comments, and i'm still not satisfied with any ones explanation.
Great episode! I knew that the couldn't really fire Deeks, but they really got me with all the suspension things! And poor Kensi, she was the only one in the dark... I loved how Deeks avoided to really talks about the "thing" between the two of them, because he knew the firing was all a lie!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteOk so obvious mole was obvious, but apart from that I actually quite liked this episode.

ReplyDeleteYeah I felt insulted on Kensi's behalf but then Hetty is a meddler like that so at least it was in character. Still not satisfying though....
