im sure if the ratings are good they will do a season 2
ReplyDeleteI knew the first season was short order, but always assumed they would film a Season 2 if it did well also.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure American networks could ignore a success even if it was planned as a one-off mini-series.
Hopefully if it's been initially planned as only a 10 episode season the story will have a reasonable ending if it is just a single season and doesn't get a second.
ReplyDeleteWell if it does well I'm sure they will do more but sometimes these things work better as mini-series
ReplyDeleteConsidering nothing on ABC is a runaway hit, they might as well be content with a single season miniseries if it doesn't do SPECTACULAR! And if it did well, they could always just do a new story next season.
ReplyDeleteIf it's a success then they will stretch the story for a few more seasons until audience gets tired of it and then they will cancel it for bad ratings...
ReplyDeleteJust like Prison Break. It was originally designed for 2 seasons, but the ratings were good so they continued, the result was bad and they ended it after the 4th season. Still don't know how the show ended, because I stopped watching.
ReplyDeleteI loved Prison Break but gave up on it at the beginning of the third season, but have since watched it all (except the "movie"). The last episode is strange (especially if you haven't see the "movie"). But I guess it was as satisfying as it could have been by that point. All loose ends tied up. Michael Rapport grew on me, but all I kept thinking about when I saw him was how he ended up at the end of True Romance. If you have Nuvo TV (formerly Si TV, they air it, I just dvr'ed it for like three months and then had a 4 day weekend marathon of it).
ReplyDeleteI respect your cynicism! XD
ReplyDeleteYou may be right.... MY gut tells me this is a one off that is designed to be a one-year story and that if they do have a second season it will be a new missing child and half the cast will change too.
Same here... Prison Break was my favorite show for 2 seasons, but I decided to watch season 3... Then I just stopped watching after a while... I don't know how it ended and honestly, I dont care...
ReplyDeleteyes... There aren't many mysteries that can keep people interested for more than one season... Which was my point when The Killing (spoiler alert) decided to continue the case to the second season... But since that show is on cable, the dynamics of renewal and cancellation are different...
ReplyDeleteThere was a series on NBC maybe 6 years ago or so called Kidnapped that starred Jeremy Sisto, Timothy Hutton, Delroy Lindo and Dana Delaney.
ReplyDeleteIt never really caught on, but I liked it a lot I guess. (The last part of its only season was forced and moved too quickly, but they knew at that point there was no renewal or back 9 ordered so at least they tried to wrap it up.) It had a premise that was a perfect one season story that opened up for a second season and not completely unlike Missing's story.... kidnapped kid and a person with a very special set of skills hunts for them.
You're right though most mystery type serial shows make the mistake of not planning enough for extra seasons. So when their first season wraps and they do actually get a second season it inevitably goes down in quality and feels like a different series almost.
It doesn't seem to hard to me. I mean with a show like missing, in Season One she hunts for her child and in season two she could hunt for someone else s child. If her kid was kidnapped again it becomes ridiculous quickly.
If ABC keeps it I wager they will try to keep the entire cast the same and ruin the show like Prison Break did.
