Well it's mostly just a joke, but I used to love most of Val Kilmer's movies and sometime not long after Willow he just changed. I don't care about the weight at all honestly, but he started doing really bad movies.
I think The Ghost and the Darkness was the last time I liked him a lot in something. I guess he was ok in Spartan and Pollock.... but nothing like his early movies that I loved.
I'm with you about his movies, I think the last I really just loved was the Doors, so looong time ago! But I keep liking a lot this actor and his way of acting ... Despite the critics I even liked him in Batman Forever, though I didn't quite like the movie. Don't know why, I just feel like he brings something special on every character he plays... Actually I just feel the same about Nicholas Cage, Billy Crudup and may be Robert Downey Jr... I know they are very different kinds, and they're not my favourite, but they could be in the worst movies ever and always add something touching or just humanity to their characters. Or may be I just loved him so much as Madmartigan or Jim Morrison that now and forever I'm forgiving him and forgetting his weight and his age :-p
I give him a pass for brilliant roles too. I think Real Genius, Top Secret, Willow, and Tombstone are can be watched over and over and I still find them as fun as the first time! Not to mention occasional viewing of his real acting projects like Heat and The Doors,
So right about cage and RDjr too! Cage makes one 'hero' bomb after the next now and RDjr seems to have stopped make the independent films that showed off his considerable acting skills! Sad...
I'm in the minority that did not like either Holmes or Iron Man. Typical Hollywood turds covered in gold dust to hide it....
Top Secret ! Wow that was one of my favourite funny and absurd movies as a young girl and I totally forgot the lead actor was Val Kilmer ! lol I agree with you about RDJ not doing independent films, very sad. But in my opinion even in Sherlock Holmes he succeeds in being touching and he brings some real humanity in this hollywood false modern and loudly concept of Sherlock. So far from the original, that's almost hilarious in my point of view. And so I'm going to watch Sherlock Holmes 2, just for RDJ (and may be Judd Law) :-)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I love him as an actor since Willow so I'm very glad to watch him in this new show :-)
ReplyDeleteWollow ~ " See this acorn? I'll throw it at you and turn you to stone! "
ReplyDeleteMadmartigan ~ " Ooh, I'm really scared. No! Don't! There's a.. a.. peck here with an acorn pointed at me! "
Willow: "Don't call me a peck!"
ReplyDeleteMadmartigan: "Oh, I'm sorry! Peck! Peck! Peck, peck, peck, peck, peck, peck, peck! ..."
:-p
Ha!
ReplyDeleteI wish there was more fantasy adventure series that captured the charm and magic that Willow did!
The Princess Bride >>> Willow for me :P
ReplyDeleteThat remains one of my favourite lines and favourite deliveries of a line EVER. :D
ReplyDeleteI loved it so much too :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why I always will like Mandy Patinkin, just because one day he was Inigo Montoya ;-)
I love the Princess Bride too and it probably is a better movie... more consistently funny throughout.
ReplyDeleteBut I love Willow if for no other reason than it's one of the last times Val Kilmer looked like Val Kilmer before he got all bloated....
LOL What kind of reason is this?!
ReplyDeleteHa!
