How I Met Your Mother producers have found a new girlfriend for Barney, and this time they’re not playing around (no offense, Nora).

Much-missed Ugly Betty scene-stealer Becki Newton is joining the CBS hitcom as a potential love interest for Neil Patrick Harris’ brokenhearted cad, TVLine has learned exclusively.

And this isn’t some quickie fling. I’m told Newton will recur throughout the show’s current seventh season, with her first episode slated to air in January. The arrival of her character — named Quinn — comes on the heels of Barney’s breakup with Nora (Nazanin Boniadi) and subsequent rejection from Robin (Cobie Smulders).

    As long as she is a conquest of Barney's and not an ongoing relationship I'm good with it. 

    Some of his repeat conquests have made for pretty funny story lines, but none of his girlfriends have... Including Robin. Those two together (fated or not) is tragic for the series....

    I really really hope she is not a girlfriend. The Nora situation wasn't really belieavable IMO and was super rushed... he met her and BAM, was in love. How Mosby of him.

    But I agree with you that anything is better than Barney and Robin together... it was just BORING. If they want them to end up together, fine, but leave it to the last episodes.

    My favorite was crazy Meg.

    Eh, so long as it's not a "super serious!!" relationship that happens right away like they showed us with Nora, and that Barney/Robin are endgame, then I guess it's okay. I'd rather a slow introduction like we got with Zoey, have them date a little, and then split up toward the end of the season. After last week's episode, regardless of how Robin rejected Barney, we were shown that the two are meant to be together. They just need the right timing.

    I'm not thrilled at the prospect of a new love interest, but I LOVE Becki Newton.. so I can't be too upset about it  :)  I think she has the potential to be a great addition.. then again, I thought the same thing about Kal Penn, and look where that got me..

    I was hoping for Barney and Nora, but now that that's not happening, I don't know what to think. I can't say I like the idea of Barney and Robin together. I'm interested to see what Quinn brings into this show :)

     The alternatives:

    1. Barney mopes and pines for Robin(again)
    2. They throw the last season and a half's character development out the window and he goes back to his old self

    I don't understand why anyone would at all be okay with 2. Barney The Womanizer gets old after so long. Character development is a good thing, and I love that he's getting married in the future.

    Still convinced more than ever that Robin is The Bride.
