Thanks to FringeWatch and MurderMondays for sending us the following..
Castle has elected a new mayor.
Damages‘ Derek Webster is taking over the role of Robert Weldon, the show’s (fictional) New York City Mayor, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.
He replaces General Hospital grad Joseph
The role will be beefed up considerably under Webster (who also starred in the short-lived Fox drama Mental). For starters, producers are mining the character’s pivotal backstory — namely his longstanding friendship with Castle (Nathan Fillion) — in a major way.
As you know, it was Weldon’s political clout that allowed Castle to partner up with Beckett in the first place. But when a woman is found dead in a car that traces back to the Mayor’s motor pool, that partnership comes under fire as the scandal surrounding the investigation threatens to bring down Weldon’s administration.
Webster’s term in office is slated to begin in early ’12.

I like it
ReplyDeleteHmm...This will be interesting. For so many reasons.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
Interesting plot! Can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteexciting!
ReplyDeleteI liked the old mayor but I'm assuming this is an availability issue.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting and I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI understand the availability issue but I don't like when they recast. It's weird.
ReplyDeleteConcerning the storyline, that promises to be good. How Castle and the Mayor became buddies.
Not a fan of recasting in general so that bugs me a bit...
ReplyDeleteHaving said that the storyline does sound interesting...
Can't wait! :D
ReplyDeletere-casting usually bugs me.. but since I can't currently picture the old mayor without looking up a picture, I guess I'm okay with it haha
ReplyDeleteThis could be really good or really bad depending on the outcome of this storyline.
ReplyDeleteNew Mayor, okay really isn't that much of a big deal.I am looking forward to this episode, i wonder how or if this relationship gets affected.
ReplyDeleteI have always wondered why a mayor would care enough to force Castle on an unwilling Captain. Hopefully this will make a rather implausible plot device a bit more sensible. It should be interesting to see how the new captain takes a mayor scandal, especially in light of Castle.
ReplyDeleteLets hope it turns out to be a really good storyline!
ReplyDeleteSo it's the same mayor but different actor, right? Not a fan of recasting either but as well as other people can't really remember what the mayor looked like when we saw him last. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it could be really interesting, especially since his friendship with the mayor is why he gets to shadow Beckett since they got a new Captain.
ReplyDeleteI think it will be a good storyline but a negative outcome could spell trouble for Castle. If the mayor has to resign or if Castle has a fallout with the mayor because of the investigation, he could lose the only leverage keeping him in the precinct with Beckett.
ReplyDeleteCould be interesting storyline as Castle will definitely have to earn his spot in the precinct more, but I would think that all castle would have to do is pull out the award (or get vetted by the previous mayor) about all he has done to help the 12th, including saving NYC from a dirty bomb... either way, I'm sure that there's a lot of fun stuff they can mine from this scenario.
ReplyDeleteTrue and i thought it was going to be the fall finale, but i just re-read the synopsis and it said he is taking office when they are back in January! That throws everything out the window......what you just said is every true...umm i need to think about this....Bruce maybe he takes office in January but the murder happens in the finale? What do you think?
ReplyDelete"but i just re-read the synopsis and it said he is taking office when they are back in January!"Where did you see that?
ReplyDeleteYeah, doesn't Iron Gates know about his role in saving NYC? ;)
ReplyDeleteIn the synopsis, its the last line"Webers term in office is slated to begin in early 2012.
ReplyDeleteOh, that. That's just a play on words telling the reader that the actor will begin his recurring role when the show returns in January.
ReplyDeleteAh! I guess we will see how things turn out in the fall finale, and in 2012 when they come back. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is going to make things really interesting around the precinct...
ReplyDeleteThe repercussions of the involvement of the mayor in a crime had been on my mind since they released the title of the episode and I am very curious about that.
ReplyDeleteThe probable confrontation between Castle and the mayor (or at least Castle trying to solve the case even if it brings the mayor down) could be what puts him on Gates' good side, since she could see that he takes what he does seriously and would even risk a powerful friendship. She has already seen he can be helpful, I believe she now needs to see that he is not only there do have fun and eventually escape the boredom of writers-block.
