"Well, I've actually left Being Human but no one [outside of the show] knows yet," he says, bursting our bubble. The news will come as a shock to fans, still reeling from Aidan Turner's exit as his character, Mitchell the vampire, was killed off by George in the season three finale. "Aidan's left to film The Hobbit in New Zealand [with Peter Jackson] and going on without him on this fourth series felt strange," says Tovey by way of explanation. But for such a huge sci fi-ish hit on both sides of the Atlantic, doesn't having only one of the original cast members left put the show in major jeopardy?
"No, with Being Human the story can definitely go on and on," Tovey insists. "Toby [Whithouse, the writer] still runs it and they can do all sorts ... add giants and robots!"

Personally, after losing hope of Aidan's return I won't watch .. Mitchell was the core of the show for me but now that Russel is leaving too I don't know how the show is gonna go on..
ReplyDeleteI'm devastated, Mitchell's departure didn't upset me because really it was inevitable when you look back on the storyline of S3 but I love George with Nina seeing him go will be hard. Yet I still think Being Human can continue and be strong because its such a great show
ReplyDeleteHOW COME MITCHELL IS DEAD (I'M ON S02 YET) AND GEORGE IS GONNA GO? omg i'm so shocked my heart aches =((((
ReplyDeleteYeah this is a death nail to me.
ReplyDeleteI really watched for the vampires. I only enjoyed George maybe half the time and tolerated Annie less that that! Mitchell's death put me off, but I planned on watching some to see how it was without him.
I understand completely what Russel said about it feeling odd without Mitchell/ Aidan around. That show was so much about the chemistry between George and Mitchell, Annie was often an after thought or an inconvenience. I'm sure it would feel bizarre to anyone having the person who you played off for 3 years gone....
That is a HUGE spoiler put in the title. Thanks for ruining it for me.
ReplyDeleteI was sad (and angry) too when I watched it last year!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to spoil what happens on the series for you, but I think most of it was the actor Aidan being hired to play Kili the dwarf in the mega-huge production of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit in New Zealand. That movie will keep him busy for a year or more and he was going to miss filming Season 4 of the UK series.
I agree. But I am sure he is enjoying filming The Hobbit. Congrats to him. I am still going to watch it tho.
ReplyDeleteYou're on Spoilertv - there's supposed to be spoilers, it's the reason people come here. And the titles here at spoilertv.com quite frequently have spoilers....
ReplyDeleteRude much...LOTS of fans love Annie/Lenora Crichlow. And lots of fans love Mitchell and Annie together as a romantic pairing. I would never think of her as an "inconvenience" or an "after thought." Maybe in your personal opinion. But lots of people would disagree with you.
ReplyDeleteI've stopped watching the show when Aidan left. I only watched for the Mitchell and Annie romance. I thought all three main characters were brilliant and had excellent chemistry together.
Fans can like or dislike whatever and whoever they want... and it's great you liked the romance (even if it annoyed me to no end). We all watch for different things....
ReplyDeleteI was not rude in the least though...
In the first 2 seasons (especially the first) Annie was an inconvenience that George and Mitchell had to deal with. That was the entire basis for the series. Two friends move into a house that is haunted and chaos ensues. She was by design the inconvenient chaos factor they were forced to deal with.
Afterthought may have been a bit strong, but the A-plots for most of the series were vampire or werewolf related. Annie often had B-plots off on her own while the overarching story was vampire and werewolf related. Season Three changed that somewhat, but it was still driven by vampire and werewolf story lines. I would bet 75% of the series overarching stories were vampire or werewolf driven.
With both Mitchell and George gone, I don't know how interested I'll be. And what'll happen to Nina and the little wolf-baby?
ReplyDeleteI was going to watch just to see how it would go without Aidan, now with Russel also gone, not sure where the series can go without starting from scratch. Could not stand George's wife, can't even remember her name. She was such a big turn off for me every time she came on screen. Guess I will have to get my Being Human fix from Syfy.
ReplyDeleteWhen Mitchell was written out that was the near the end for me. Now that George is gone I guess it's going to be a GHOST of a series! :( *sobs*
ReplyDeleteHe's leaving BH during season 4 or he not coming back for any new episode?
ReplyDeleteWas it Nina? She annoyed me to no end too.
ReplyDeleteCorrect, Nina, have never liked her and as the series went along she got worse. So with Mitchell & George gone, what do I need to stay around for??
ReplyDeleteExactly, Mitchell had this 'huge' story arc in S1 and how awesome he was took me by surprise.. Agree that Annie didn't have much to do, but for me, sometimes she provided comic relief (plus, she's adorable) and after all, she's a ghost.. what more can she do? writers didn't exactly write her character with some awesome 'powers'.. and George didn't have a werewolf-story arc of his own this season too which was frustrating.. I loved the whole team together George/Mitchell/Annie .. it's what pulled me more to the show beside the story..
ReplyDeleteSeeing them leave (espcially Aidan) has sure hurt 'coz I felt this season, Mitchell had even more powerful stuff to play and can be more.. but, what can we say?
Well that finishes my interest in the show. no Mitchell + no George = not watching.
ReplyDeleteyack yack yack ..you all know your going to watch to at least see...whats going to happen... i love the show and who knows where they will take it if it goes on after he leaves.. and speaking of him leaving.. he's also on that show him and her.. and its not all that....
ReplyDeleteWow this makes me sad, Will not be the same show without him and Aidan.
