The zombies in The Walking Dead were created by legendary makeup effects guru Greg Nicotero. He and his team won an Emmy for "Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup" for Season 1.

Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale) and Laurie Holden (Andrea) worked together in The Mist (2007). In that movie, they also had to choose between a nightmarish life and suicide.

Melissa McBride (Carol) also played an anxious mom in Mutant Species (1995) and The Mist (2007).

Before The Walking Dead, Sarah Wayne Callies was best known for her role on Prison Break.
