-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS inched past ABC by one-tenth of a rating point in the overnights, but the alphabet network is likely to win the evening among adults 18-49 (despite airing an encore telecast of Modern Family). In the distant No. 3 spot was a night of all repeats on NBC, followed by Fox, which aired two encore telecasts of Glee in place of rained-out Game Six of The World Series, and The CW. Sixty-five percent of last night’s line-up was non-original.
Non-scripted CBS stalwart Survivor: South Pacific opened on a winning overnight note, with a 7.3 rating/12 share at 8 p.m. Comparably, that built from Survivor: Nicaragua on the year-ago evening (7.1/11 on 10/27/10) by three percent and will easily dominate the hour among adults 18-49. Assuming it could be facing baseball on Fox, CBS aired encore telecasts of underrated Criminal Minds (#1: 7.2/12) and veteran CSI (#2: 6.0/10) from 9-11 p.m.
On ABC, recent sitcom entry Suburgatory remains the perfect fit out of The Middle, with a second-place 6.9/11 in the overnights at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, that increased from failed year-ago occupant Better With You (4.8/ 7 on 10/27/10) by a hefty 44 percent. The Middle at 8 p.m. scored a second-place 7.0/12 (up 21 percent from the year-ago evening) and both are worthy of being labeled “winners.”
At 9 p.m. on ABC was a repeat of aforementioned Modern Family at a dominant 7.7/12. An original installment of lead-out Happy Endings had better retention out of Modern Family this week (77 percent), with a 5.9/ 9 (#2) at 9:30 p.m. Recently introduced drama Revenge capped off the evening for ABC with a first-place 6.4/11 at 10 p.m., which built from failed year-ago occupant The Whole Truth (3.6/ 6 on 10/27/10) by 78 percent. Consider Revenge another Wednesday “winner” for ABC.
In an all repeat night on NBC, sitcoms Up All Night and Whitney each scored a 2.8/ 5 in the overnights, with a distant third-place finish from 8-9 p.m. Older-skewing Harry’s Law followed with a 3.1/ 5 in the 9 p.m. hour (#3), followed by aging Law & Order: SVU at a third-place 2.6/ 5 at 10 p.m. Had NBC been in better shape, this probably would be the final season for long-in-the-tooth SVU.
Elsewhere, two encore telecasts of Fox’s Glee (#4: 1.9/ 3 from 8-10 p.m.) stepped in for the postponed Game 6 of The World Series. And The CW populated this sixth Wednesday of the 2011-12 season with a repeat of overused Ringer (#5: 1.1/ 2) and tired America’s Next Top Model (#5: 1.9/ 3), which did not benefit from facing repeat competition. One year earlier, Top Model in the 8 p.m. hour averaged a 2.5/ 4 on 10/27/10.

See! Why is Modern Family in the winners category, he always excludes repeats unless it fits his evil agenda lol. That aside, it's nice to see him not bashing Happy Endings. Yay Wednesday comedy :D. It held up even sans Modern Family. Now all I need is for Cougar Town to be able to launch Tuesday nights and not turn out ratings like Community :(.
ReplyDeletenice highest Revenge HH rating since the pilot!
ReplyDeleteTo be fair Modern Family performed really well for being a repeat. Nice to see Revenge up. The show deserves it. Happy Endings as well.
ReplyDeleteHappy Survivor is doing so well. i also watched a new show on the BBC Whitechapel,i thought it was pretty good.
ReplyDeletehah I noticed the happy endings hate too. It basically won the night if you exlude repeats (which it does.. normally) in the 18-49 demo.
ReplyDeletewow the Ringer is doing pretty bad, but e those numbers good enough b/c its on the CW?
ReplyDeleteI mean ANTM is the loser but its a reality show and its been on for 17 cycles i think its solid.
Happy Endings Up *-*
ReplyDeleteMakes me happy. Interesting that it did so well this week with a repeat for a lead-in and the episode being online for a couple days beforehand. Word of mouth must have worked really well for it.
ReplyDeleteoh ok clearly i dont watch the show lol
ReplyDeleteThose ratings are better than new episodes of Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeletethat was a repeat and this week was a mini ringer marathon for the CW 2 repeats tuesday, 1 wednesday 2 mondey etc.
ReplyDeleteSo happy about "Happy Endings" hitting a series high! Hope it at least gets a back nine order.
