----------
-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC opened this fourth week of the 2011-12 season on a winning overnight note thanks to Dancing With the Stars, which featured proud Mama Cher cheering for Chaz in the audience. In the comfortable No. 2 spot was CBS, followed by respectable Fox, lowly NBC and, of course, The CW.
Dancing With the Stars scored a dominant 12.2 rating/18 share from 8-10 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m.: 11.7/18 (#1)
8:30 p.m.: 12.2/18 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 12.2/18 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 12.9/19 (#1)
Compared to one year-earlier (13.6/20 on 10/11/10), that was a loss of 10 percent. My pick to depart tonight (and it is not deserved): David Arquette. Next on ABC was crime solver Castle at a first-place 7.8/13 at 10 p.m., which was equal to one-year earlier. Comparably, retention for Castle out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars was a modest 60 percent.
Over at CBS, the two-hour sitcom block remained on the plus side from one year earlier as follows:
Monday/CBS
8:00 p.m. How I Met Your Mother: 6.5/10 (#3): +16 percent from 10/11/10 (5.6/
8:30 p.m. 2 Broke Girls: 7.6/11 (#2): +46 percent from Rules of Engagement on 10/11/10 (5.2/ 7)
9:00 p.m. Two and a Half Men: 10.4/15 (#2): +17 percent from 10/11/10 (8.9/13)
9:30 p.m. Mike & Molly: 7.8/11 (#2): +13 percent from 10/11/10 (6.9/10)
Hawaii Five-O capped off the night for the Eye net with a second-place 6.6/11 at 10 p.m., which dipped year-to-year by 11 percent (7.4/11 on 10/11/10).
Over at Fox, week three of drama Terra Nova perked up to second in the 8 p.m. hour with a 7.2/11. Compared to one week earlier that was an increase of unprecedented 22 percent. Three-week overnight track: 6.4/ 9 – 5.9/ 9 – 7.2/11. Tired House at 9 p.m. dipped to third, with a 5.1/ 7 at 9 p.m. Comparatively, that was down by 24 percent from its year-ago performance at 8 p.m. (6.7/10 on 10/11/10). Yes, it is time for House to call it quits next spring.
In other week three news, CW drama Hart of Dixie was flat at a 1.4/ 2 at 9 p.m., which was seven percent below year-ago occupant Gossip Girl (1.5/ 2 on 10/011/10) and 18 percent behind its debut on Sept. 26 (1.7/ 2). Gossip Girl, now at 8 p.m., could only muster a 1.2/ 2 in the overnights at 8 p.m.
On NBC, the Monday news gets worse by the week with last night’s combination of The Sing-Off (2.8/ 4 from 8-10 p.m.) and a repeat of Prime Suspect (#3: 2.3/ 4) in place of canceled The Playboy Club down by 29 percent from the failed year-ago combination of Chuck, The Event and Chase. As a reminder, Rock Center With Brian Williams steps into the Monday 10 p.m. time period on Oct. 31.
And there you have it…the fourth Monday of the young TV season.

On the East Coast, House got pushed back to 10 0'clock because of the baseball game. No wonder the ratings are down.
ReplyDeleteHouse was scuppered by the baseball... I wonder if that has any reflection on Terra Nova's increase.
ReplyDeleteWill be interesting to see if anything changes later on...
I've been cheering for Hart Of Dixie, but it's been tough.
ReplyDeleteI think Chynna Phillips will land in the bottom two this week on Dancing, base on last night's performance.
ReplyDeleteRob Kardashian may have drew more fans than Cher, but it was movie song theme night that got people excited. Although. some people on Twitter was playing spot the celebrity / Cher in the audience.
it's like..... nobody watches TV anymore!
ReplyDeleteso is terra noving actually improving? (ratings-wise)?
ReplyDeleteno, it's more like the current way of measuring ratings is completely outdated and inaccurate.
ReplyDeleteWe won't know until last nights numbers are adjusted due to the Baseball overruns.
ReplyDeleteDo they have a way to account for east coast ratings for House and do a total viewership rather than by time slot? It's not really fair that House is posting such low ratings for a 9 pm time slot when many of us were watching it at 10 pm last night.
ReplyDeleteOf course Hawaii Five 0 is dropping. They changed the format and added some dumb chick that can't act. How low do the ratings have to drop before it is cancelled?
ReplyDeleteYes, as we stated (in red) the numbers will be adjusted later.
ReplyDeleteThat ain't gonna help, by 10 many people actually moved on to Castle (myself) or whatever else is regularly scheduled.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Terra Nova increased considering how bad it was last week
ReplyDeletewell said! I can't believe they screwed the show up this early on
ReplyDeleteI think some people really under estimated the value of Cuddy to the show. But the ratings don't lie.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think baseball had anything to do with it.
It had a MASSIVE effect last night as the baseball overran by 53 Minutes
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean ? Could this mean more people actually watched ?
ReplyDeletewow, great ratings for 2 broke girls (i think... :p) glad I started watching it, its suuuper hilarious!! I don't think I ever laughed this much at a comedy series before, you know like truly laugh.....and its only been 4 eps!! ;)))
ReplyDeleteRatings are so hard to tell, I always end up getting confused by what they mean.
ReplyDeleteAs it turns out, not this time.
ReplyDeleteI agree DarkUFO. Adding more bad news to House's ratings is that some East Coast FOX affiliates aired it even later; after the local news, which means it started at 12:30am! That has a huge effect. Casual viewers don't sit around for hours on a station waiting for the show to come on. Even big fans are likely to just DL it online via iTunes or Amazon etc next day if it's playing that late.
ReplyDeleteHowever, TVBYTHENUMBERS shows the adjusted rating, which is a 2.7 for House in the 18-49 demo and a 2.5 for Terra Nova. So no. Terra Nova didn't see any gains by the BB overrun either; it also went down. All in all, I don't think much can be read into Fox's Monday numbers this week (for House or Terra Nova)... they're all jacked up because of the overrun. Denying that is a little ridiculous.
Wait until Baseball season is over, THEN declare if House needs to be put to bed or not!!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. And I still don't understand WHY they changed the format.
ReplyDeleteFox doesn't have shows on at 10 0'clock. As far as I know, that's new territory. The reason the ratings didn't drop to nothing is because, even at this late season, people still like House.
ReplyDeleteAs for Terra Nova, it got a baseball lead-in. Maybe 9 0'clock is a better time for that.
Thanks to reassure me about HOUSE. I really thought it has dropped so low because of the viewers.
ReplyDeleteThat's bad news and I wonder if it was honest to publish these ratings without any star to explain the reasons it was so low. I think that these results will probably be badly used by people who want to gossip about the show.
Go on HOUSE !
I think some people really under estimated the value of Cuddy to the show. But the ratings don't lie.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think baseball had anything to do with it.
