Another solid episode, but not quite as entertaining as the previous two for me.
This episode had one of my crime procedural pet peeves in it. A crime is called in and our cop heroes (in this case Det. Carter) are at the precinct house, but usually seem to be the first to arrive on the scene no matter where the crime is taking place. Like there is no street cop or patrol anywhere between the precinct and the crime... Every procedural does it, but it is irksome! XD
Back to this episode.... I love the banter between Finch and Reese, but this series will always depend on the NOTW (number of the week) for how good the episode is. The better the case the machine provides, the better the episode. This one was just ok for me. A bit less fighting for Reese was a needed change of pace, but it did make for a slower moving episode I think.
I'm in for the season at this point, but some time in the future I will get tired of it like I get tired of every non-serial TV series.
Since they did not reveal his face I assume we already met them. So my guess either Finch's old partner (Goodwin from Lost) or the new cop introduced that steered Carter towards Reese.
My mind leans towards Detective Molina since he was steering Carter towards Reese. Maybe he was doing it to track down Finch or he knows about the machine etc...
My gut says it's Goodwin..... not sure why though.
I guess I could be completely off and they did not show the face only because they had not cast the role yet when they filmed the episode. They know he is some crime boss or related to the myth arc, but it's easier to use a stand in until they cast their actor.... Dunno.
The show keeps getting better and better. I believe we were introduced to the "big bad guy" of the season, and I love the theory of the guy being Ingram (Lost's Goodwin).
It was solid but it didn't really draw me in. ( And what kind of ex-soldier/armed robber has magazine model hair. It's insane but that really bugged me.) I think the issue I had was that I never connected with the characters involved int he case this week.
Well I thought 1x03 "Mission Creep" was the weakest of the three...However it had some really nice nods to Fringe: Susan Minser, who plays Jessica, Reese' ex-girlfriend, also had a small role on Season 1 of Fringe "Dreamscape"! Her Fringe character, Tess, is assumed to be the ex girlfriend of Peter Bishop prior to 2008 when he joined the Fringe Division. Peter goes to help Tess who is in an abusive relationship with a former associate of Peter's and Tess', Michael Kelly. So it was really niffty that Jessica told Reese in 2006 she was engaged to guy named Peter! ---especially since we FRINGE fans are wondering where is Peter?Note: her POI character's full name is Jessica Nichols ---It might be taken from Fringe's Jasika Nichole.Nod to LOST: Micheal Emerson says, "So, who's THE OTHER WOMEN" ---the name of a season 4 LOST episode that specifically relates to Juliet Burke, Ben's (Emerson's) love interest. Interestingly we see this women and her daughter at a playground....in LOST Emerson's character Ben blackmailed Juliet to stay on the Island by claiming Juliet's sister, Rachel's, cancer had returned, but that he could cure her...to prove it he showed Juliet 'recorded video footage' of her sister playing with her son, Julian on the playground.Nod to Cloverfeild: There were quite a few scenes this episode shot at Coney Island...Person of Interest of the week, Joey, may slightly mirror Colverfeild's Rob, as both characters take jobs that jeopardises the relationships with their New York girlfriends. Cloverfeild itself was about video taping the lives of a group of young people, but specifically they "tape/record" the events that include a monster running rampant and destroying New York City...but in between all the monster footage are splices of previous footage of Rob and Beth spending a happy day together at Coney Island mostly on the Ferris Wheel...Like Cloverfeild, the episode seems to end with the idea of a "higher conspiracy" as far as paying and killing of soldiers are concerned, which is also kind of fimilar thinking of LOST's Ben and his relationship with Sayid in Season 5, going after Charles Widmore's people...
all in all I think this episode is leading to bigger things (it was also nice to see a bit more of Carter too)
"Another solid episode, but not quite as entertaining as the previous two for me."
That's basically how I feel also. I think it's because I liked all the playful back and forth between Reese and Finch last episode and I preferred last week's case to this one. I did appreciate getting more of Reese's backstory though.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

This was a good episode but not quite as good as the last. I am interested to know who was the person really behind the burglaries.

ReplyDeleteLOL. At least they called for back up before they went into the casino.
ReplyDeleteI like the show but something is missing,a grab you by the seat of your pants episode.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts recopied from the forum:

ReplyDeleteGreat episode, more interesting than the previous one for me.

I think I liked this one the most. The scenes with that woman in the airport were very poignant.
