It was ok, Hanks was better in this episode for me, but he still lacks the gravitas that we've seen in previous season imo.
I loved Debs press conference, was absolutely right that she swore in it I think, she has to bring her own take on the position rather than spend too much time conforming and let that cloud her judgement on a case.
After those snakes, it seems like this is the Dexter season of bad CGI ;D
Found this episode rather dull compared to the first few eps, the writers probably thought the same, else they hadn't included Batista and Quinn smoking weed.
(Although I admit that Desmond Harrington is really funny, it seems like they totally turned his character to be the funbag this season.)
Typical Dexter problems in this episodes. Most of the characters besides Dexter are just uninteresting. Quinn continues to be a dick after his break-up with Deb, Batista is having a mid-life crisis (although the smoking scene was kind of funny, nevertheless unnecessary), LaGuerta is annoying with her office politics and Masuka is just acting incredibly dumb. But at least the new/recurring guys are interesting. The new detective seems to be more capable than the other guys and is having problems adapting to his new department. Ryan - besides being incredibly stupid for putting up evidence from such a high-profile case up for an online auction, I mean, who is that stupid?? - is intruiging. She wants to see evidence from all the big serial killer cases Dexter was involved. What is her deal? But I definitely want to find out. Matthews is the one guy that makes all these little office wars bearable and Hanks & Olmos - besides not having their best episodes - continue to be interesting and creepy.
One thing I am actually surprised about is the fact that Dexter seems to be finding out who the Doomsday Killers are quite soon. And so far I don't see why he would keep them alive. In s1 he found out pretty late it was his brother, in s2 they were after him, s3 was an entirely different situation, in s4 he tried to learn something from Trinity and in s5 they had to find out who the big bad was and how to get close to him. But here I thought it would take Dex most of the season to find those guys and here we are after episode 4 and we're getting pretty close already. Although it's such a rookie mistake to show up at your own crime scene.
And talking about crime scene - what kind of moron cops are these? First they were just snooping around the blood and fish scenery without checking the surroundings for blood and a corpse and then those idiots run right into the trap. Incredibly dumb again.
- I never thought I could really enjoy an episode of Dexter so much where he doesn't kill anyone. - The budding friendship between Brother Sam and Dexter is really interesting. - Deb held the best police press conference ever. - I was very surprised that Dexter figured out the killer so early on in the season. There must be a twist coming. - Quinn has become so dickish so quickly I'm wondering if he'll be killed off. - Masuka should have busted Ryan. Keeping his mouth shut will only make it worse. - I don't think we've seen the last of Ryan. I still think she's up to something. - Dexter's nanny has turned out to be very boring. Maybe I'm just disappointed that her character turned out to be ONLY a nanny and there's nothing more to her than that.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I thought this episode was awesome! Loved the ending, although looks like Dex is slowly becoming a believer. Can't wait until next though!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteBecause Brother Sam is going to be the real Big Bad this season.
I know a lot of people aren't enjoying this season and its definitely not as strong as some of the others but I still find it really enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the case, it's better than last season.

I hope they don't kill off Quinn! I think he's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI liked Quinn too. (before he became overly bitter and childish)
