Homeland - Second Season Likely

26 Oct 2011

Homeland is likely to return for a second season, according to Showtime's David Nevins.

Nevins, the cable network's president of entertainment, told the Los Angeles Times that a pick-up will probably be announced in the near future.

"It's on its way to being a big hit for us," he explained. "I'm not sure exactly when we'll do it, but I don't think there's much suspense about another season."

He also admitted to being surprised by some of the prescient scenes in Homeland, which stars Damian Lewis as a former PoW and Claire Danes as a CIA agent convinced that he has been turned by terrorists.

"It's amazing how close [to real life] the show has been," he said. "[And] it's going to continue because there are things that have happened recently in the news that are going to be in the show [in future episodes]."

Nevins previously suggested that Homeland could run for several years, admitting that plans were under way for a second run.

"I have a very clear idea what season one is, and I have a fairly clear idea of what season two can be, because I know where season one ends," he said in August. "I don't know [about] season three or season four yet, but we'll evaluate as we go."

  1. Great news, it's a brilliant show. I've always had problems ever since I heard about the show figuring what a second season could be like, but as long as they have good stories to tell I'm all for it.

  7. Thought the exact same thing. It's a good show, but Showtime tends to drag its shows too long, til the point where they become just dreadful (Dexter, Weeds and Californication are excellent example of that).

  8. Ha, thought the same thing. Haven't watched Californication, but Weeds has been on too long and might get even renewed for 2 more years. Dexter has declined a bit every year since the second season (even though s6 is a bit better again) and will be sooner or later renewed for 2 more years. It's better to have a short run and end it on a high-note instead of ruining a great show by having it on the air for too long with washed out and unrealistic plots and stories.

  9. I still think that Damien Lewis's character could still be innocent or at least brainwashed and could thus be turned. One thing for sure is they can't hold the tension between these two characters for multiple seasons so they will have to come up with new stories.

  10. I'm very happy to hear that. As long as they can keep it up, I'll be looking for more of this Drama series.

  11. My thought on a Season 2 was that if Brody is "innocent" then they have to deal with or find the true soldier that was turned in Season 2. OR deal with the after effects if some event happens this season because of a turned soldier... Brody or not.
