Dexter - Future in Doubt?

Negotiations between Dexter star Michael C. Hall and Showtime have broken down. I hear that the two sides reached an impasse yesterday, the same day Dexter‘s big Season 6 premiere ratings came out. Hall’s contract for Dexter is up after the current sixth season, which is about to wrap production. He has been negotiating with Showtime for awhile but I hear talks broke down after the two sides couldn’t bridge a $4 million gap in proposed salary for a new deal, with Showtime offering $20 million for two more seasons and Hall’s team asking for $24 million. Either figure would make Hall one of the highest-paid actors in cable. Sources indicate that the network brass remain hopeful about reaching a deal, with signing Hall for one more season vs. 2 also an option.

    In fairness... isn't even $20 Million Dollars for two years work a ridiculous amount to get for 12 episodes...

    $24 Million Dollars for less than 24 hours of material? 
    Really? That being said Michael C. Hall is an amazing actor, maybe he deserves it?

    Well he has Showtime tied to a slab....

    As the star of the series they cannot go on without him and his performance is worth every penny.

    Sure, it''s ridiculous amounts of money to most of us, but that is an irrelevant point really. 

    I never fault actors for asking for more money. They have a limited life as leading men or women and need to collect while they can.

     It just comes down to if ti costs 24 million for him to want to keep doing it and if the network is willing to pay him that much. He just got over a bout with cancer, a relationship with a co-star... he needs more now than ever to WANT to keep doing the role. I cannot blame him at all.....

    Hm. I love this show. If the showrunners have material and need two more season to wrap the show up in the best way possible, I find Michael C. Hall rather selfish. Not a fans man is he. Especially if he already gets more than anybody else

    He wants 1 Million per episode basically. I know that he is also producer, but that's a BIG figure.

    Showtime needs to sign the man NOW! They've had him for 6 seasons and the fans want more! MCH is bank! The amount Showtime can make off of MCH is the key. He is the draw, the star. Without him there is no show. I would hope they can compromise and meet in the middle and let the show go on. It would be terrible to let the difference be the reason MCH gets zero. 20 million ain't bad. As much as I, as a fan, want more Dexter I know Showtime has to make a profit. I hope they reach an agreement, soon.

    $1M an hour is not bad considering it would lock him down for two years and if this season does as good as it seems it will his price will be much higher next year, so they might as well fork up the $4M now mate. :)

    Yes, but this past week, it hit a new low in total viewers and tied a low in the demo. I hope with all my heart that it doesn't get cancelled, but this Peter thing just may have killed it.

    If John Hamm (Mad Men) can get a big pay bump for a series that averages only around a
    million viewers, Dexter's MCH should get twice as much!   Plus, Dexter DVDs outsell Mad Men which means even more profit for Showtime.

    Showtime should cancel it. Seriously, there needs to be a point where someone draws the line. 99% of the big stars on big networks don't get 1 mil. per episode. I always felt only so-so about Michael C. Hall - this made me actually dislike him. $20 mil. is not good enough for you, bub? Good riddance.

    I honestly don't care. In the end they will reach a deal, there's simply no question about that.
    2 more seasons of Dexter... I've already thought about the end of Dexter a couple of times and 8 seasons would definitely enough, maybe even too much. How many other serial killers/big bads can there possibly be? How much character development is left in Dexter or where can they still go with his character?
    I'm sure there will be those 2 seasons (at least), but I'm also afraid that Dexter could become a bit washed out.

    What makes you say Fringe is facing imminent cancellation? The Ratings are in their par range for Fridays as I recall.

    This has been a bad week for TV. Dexter, The Simpsons, Fringe. All facing cancellation. The only redeeming thing has been Arrested Development, and that's not even a sure thing.

    They better reach a deal, or deal with writing the ending, cuz there ain't no Dexter without Michael C. Hall! What's 4 million when your dealing with 20 million anyway jeeze?! Of course that question could go for both sides too.

    Typical renegotiation scare tactics.  There's plenty of time to get a deal done and this is probably Hall's agent using the press to put added pressure onto the network to squeeze more cash out of them.  Bored now.  Someone give me a nudge when Michael C. Hall signs his new contract, which he inevitably will.
