Cancelled Shows Hart of Dixie Nikita Supernatural Vampire DiariesSince the CW sells advertising for alot of its shows based on the W 18-34 here is how the shows are doing.
This week The Secret Circle and Supernatural were the only shows to drop, ANTM rose an impressive 0.3, Hart of Dixie rose 0.1, everything else was stable.

ReplyDeleteI don't think these ratings are as important to the CW as people assume. In fact, they may be getting less important. Next year's pilots will tell.
ReplyDeleteNot good for Secret Circle and Gossip Girl which has fallen below its target demo in W18-34 the CW's average W18-34 this season is 1.23 i think it will be cancelled by May cause i think the CW is going to have to choose between Gossip Girl and 90210 and i think they will choose 90210 cause it's doing better in W18-34, A18-49 and Viewers so Goodbye Gossip Girl i love GG but it will be done by May 2012 i think i will miss the show though and Ringer needs to Improve too 1.1 is about 11% below the target Demo excellent for Vampire Diaries and 90210
ReplyDeleteW18-34 still very much matters to shows like Gossip Girl, 90210, America's Next Top Model, Hart of Dixie, Ringer, Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle its just there friday Lineup where W18-34 isnt important theres a reason there devopoling a sex and the city prequel next year
ReplyDeleteRinger doesn't fit these other shows in that it is written for an older audience. Even Hart of Dixie seems to be hitting for the mid to upper part of this demo. If the new head is looking to skew older like rumors suggest then it will be the same demos that every other network looks at that will matter most to the CW.

It is frequently said, as if irrefutable fact, that the CW only cares about the w18-34 demo. But if was ever officially admitted, it was a long time ago, and there is quite a bit of evidence that the new head of the network does not see this demo as the holy grail. For example in green lighting a new series (the Outsiders) Just yesterday, Mark Pedowitz said he " wants to expand the network beyond the 18-34 female demo". So I am not sure these figures mean that much anymore.
ReplyDeleteRinger still very much targets W18-34 theres a reason they paired it with 90210 there where hoping it would do well in that demo and Hart of Dixie being the same producers as Gossip Girl very Much Targets W18-34 as well and Mark Pedowitz has stated he believes in keeping certain shows which suggest he plans on keeping The CW W18-34 for the most part just because they have a different president doesnt mean there target demo is going to be different he'll probaly have some focus on A18-49 and some W18-34 theres a reason the cw is devoloping a sex and the city prequel next year

ReplyDeleteAgreed. The CW never looked solely at the w18-34 demo. If it did Supernatural would have been toast a long time ago. It always skewed higher than the other shows, including Tuesdays and Thursdays where it spent the majority of its life.

It was my understanding that Ringer was placed on Tuesday because it was shielded from American Idol and they were expecting Ringer to be huge for them. They didn't want it to be sacked mid-year by American Idol. They paired Ringer up with 90210 because they couldn't have two new shows on the same night and Secret Circle was too perfect a match with Vampire Diaries to put it on Thursday. Wednesday was intended to be their reality TV night like it was last year and no way CW puts a new show on Friday. Really the only place to put Ringer was Monday or Tuesday and either way it would have been paired with either Gossip Girl or 90210.

ReplyDeleteGood. Then we need who are over 34 need to let him know we watch Supernatural and Hart of Dixie. I sometimes watch Vampire Diaries. That's my sum total of watching the CW
ReplyDeleteIt's not very smart of them but it's over Castiel being gone, and Dean is still dealing. They can't stick. I do but I've been watching the show since the beginning. I'm a diehard Winchester Brothers fan. I am not saying all the Castiel fans have deserted the show but a lot have.
ReplyDeletebut to be a castiel fan you have to watch the first three season and be a SUPERNATURAL fan first! I mean dont get me wrong last year I was crying my little cas!heart cause i was scared he would die and didnt think i could watch this show without him (diehard destiel here) but heck THE SHOW IS AWESOME! And cas isnt gone for sure! And he was there for the first 2 ep and the ratings sucked there too so i dont think thats the problem

How could Gossip girl with rating 1.05 will be cancelled while spn will be renewed with only 0.53??? I dont understan >_<
ReplyDeleteI firmly believe one of three will happen if ratings hold, Gossip Girl will be cancelled, 90210 will be cancelled, or both shows will share a time slot with GG having a final season in the same vein as One Tree Hill will have this year. The CW will likely need to open spots for 3 pilots next year and a new reality show. Since H8R, One Tree Hill, and Nikita (if ratings hold) are going, that means they need to dump another show. Supernatural being on Friday gives it a leniency that 90210 and Gossip Girl don't have. Especially since Dawn Ostroff is gone and she was the biggest champion of both shows.
ReplyDeleteAs for which show goes, it is a toss up. Gossip Girl seems like the more expensive show to produce but it has contracts on all its main stars for another year. If GG gets another season next year, I think it would be highly unlikely that it would go beyond that because those contract negotiations would be brutal. However, the CW loves its announced finales and there's no better set for a final season than Gossip Girl, so there's a plus. On the plus side for 90210, if they are renewed they hit that original syndication number of 100 episodes. If the producers of 90210 feel they can get a syndication deal, that's a good incentive to sell the show cheaper to the CW. In the end, it won't come down to specific demo numbers. It will come down to the C3 numbers, how many ads are watched during the live airing of each show. C3 numbers are what advertisers see and my guess is the show that is bringing in the most profit (or any profit) to the CW is the one renewed.
Because Supernatural focuses on A18-49 where Gossip Girl focuses on W18-34 Gossip girl has fallen below its target demo not to mention has the 2nd lowest in A18-49 and lowest viewers on the network where Supernatural is on friday so they expect lower ratings on friday

ReplyDeleteDiaries Is top show.That Is one that Is not going anywhere anytime soon.Gossip Girl has been treated as the jewel of the CW In the past but It may not be anymore.The secret Circle Is the new show most likely to be renewed for next season.Hart of Dixie stands good shot at getting renewed.As for ringer It could go
eather way.Nikita Is most likely to get cancled at end of the season.SUpernatural returning depends on how much the present CW regime likes It.It's ratings aren't that much higher than Nikita.In past Supernatural has had SMallville or Vampire Diaries as lead In.This year Is showing Smallville being gone shows It could bring viewers on friday nights.

they were hoping Sarah Michelle Gellar would bring the Buffy audence with her.It hasn't quite worked out like that.Ringer could go eather way.Supernatural could depend on how many new shows are picked up for next season.The CW needs to acknowledge The Vampire Diaries and Not 90210/Gossip Girl Is their crown show.
I think that it is a slight misconception that Castiel really brought a huge ratings boost. Yes, S4 could be one of the highest rating seasons of Supernatural but it went slightly down hill from there.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of fans who left at the end of S4-S5 because they weren't feeling the vibe of the show and where it was headed. Were they wrong or right I don't know but now Supernatural is showing its age regardless of having Castiel on or not.
I mean if it were solely because of Castiel/Misha's presence then the ratings during S5-S6 should have been way higher then they were especially in the episodes he was in. But they weren't.

ReplyDeleteBefore everyone shouts at me - I know GG is coming close to the End but GG is alway NO 1 on iTunes in the UK And US Week after week which obviously generates some sort of sales. Then you have to look at the stars of the show, while GG might have low ratings they are now big stars who are starting to appear in big budget movies which generates HUGE media attention in the press which again helps the show in other means. (mentioning the show etc)
Then finally GG is aired all over the world and its coverage online has alway mean Huge if not the one of the biggest (Check Facebook) but other shows including Hart Of Dixie have not even been bought up here to air in the UK.
So a network like The CW will look at every area of a show before renewal/cancellation.
Anyway I reckon 1 MORE 12 EP SEASON to finish on their contracts. :-)

ReplyDeleteThe only shows i watch on the cw is The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural, TVD has always come in first so far this year with their viewers and SPN has either come in 3rd or 4th bc of Nikita, but this week Nikita came in 3rd to last, so I agree Nikita will be cancelled. Plus TVD has been the CW's highest rated show for the passsed 2 years, but I agree Nikita might be cancelled and maybe Gossip Girl because they have come in last this whole year as far as ratings go.
ReplyDeleteThe Secret Circle has maintained 2nd place so far since the shows have started their new season, and The Vampire Diaries has maintained 1rst place, Supernatural has either came in 3rd or 4th, Nikita has come ineither 3rd or 4th, so yea I think that if SPN wants anotehr season, their gonna get it, so is TVD and TSC, but idk about Nikita
