Chuck - Season 5 - Final Big Bad cast

25 Oct 2011

Braveheart actor Angus Macfadyen is joining NBC’s Chuck for a multi-episode arc as the show’s last major villain, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.

Macfadyen — who co-starred as Mel Gibson’s noble compatriot in the Oscar-winning film — will play Nicholas Quinn, a former CIA agent who now runs a mercenary spy ring.

Like Chuck, he’s a spy for hire. Unlike Chuck, he only works for bad guys.

Macfadyen’s arc will span the last four episodes of Chuck‘s fifth and final season (premiering Friday).

  1. I don't know why, but this makes me sad.

  2. I hope he is a good bad guy ;)

  3. I am kind of indifferent to this news. After the amazing Timothy Dalton it is difficult to look forward to any other super villain.

  4. This should be fun.... I love Angus MacFadyen!

He was great on Lie to Me, Californication and Cradle Will Rock.. and as Robert the Bruce of course.

  6. Yeah, it's good to see that Chuck's reliably great casting hasn't slipped up in its final season.

  7. Yes, their casting is usually amazing. IMO there were only two mistakes in 4 seasons: Brandon Routh and Lauren Cohan. Their acting skills were rather underwhelming to put it politely.

  8. I agree with you about Routh but I put the blame squarely on the writers for Lauren Cohan's regrettable turn as Volkov.

The writers did such a poor job at creating that character and plotting out a believable story arc for her that they made her look a lot worse than she actually was.  Vivian Volkov was the biggest writing failure of the entire series.

  9. Well, you have a point there: the writing of Vivian Volkov's character was awful and barely belieavable. The character annoyed me as a whole and as I didn't "believe" in it, I focused on the actress too much... but Lauren Cohan is no miracle maker and saving that character would have required a miracle indeed. I don't know any other thing she was on, so I can't really judge, but it is nearly impossible to act the hell out of a shallow lousy constructed character.
