  1. Hmmm a pretty weak opening for SPN. That sucks, considering it's the best premiere of the series, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Why weren't people watching Supernatural? It was so awesome. Silly people in US :(

    ReplyDelete
  3. Ugh... SPN finally debuted below 1.0... :(
Nikita is less than half of the lead-in Smallville was. SMV+SPN were great for each other in that respect.

Even though I've never seen Blue Bloods, I am happy it's relatively hight for a Friday night.

    ReplyDelete
  4. A Gifted Man is VERY older skewing. But I would hope that if it doesn't drop too much, it can survive a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm happy for Fringe, it may be down from last years premier, but last year you have to remember it was in a way better timeslot, and it's up from the last episode aired, so that's good, I'm not saying it's Series 5 good, but I can live in hope.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 0.o Why are the SPN ratings so low? It was amazing

    ReplyDelete
  7. oh no i want another seas. on of spnl nikita is not a good lead in ratings wise

    ReplyDelete
  8. why supernatural is so undervalued?last night's episode was a great one!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I wish SPN had higher ratings, especially with how epic the premiere was.  :/  Hopefully once the fairweather fans hear how awesome it was they'll start watching again and the numbers will go up.

    ReplyDelete
  10. woah, supernaturals's ratings suck. I wasnt expecting much of the show (didnt like season 6) but I would still watch and WOW. 07x01 is one of the best season premieres of Supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Gosh, I am so disappointed that the Supernatural ratings are so low.
I mean the show has everything, drama, humour, suspence, horror, etc., etc.,
What do people want from a show?

It's an hour of riveting viewing, but maybe that's the problem, people prefer something easier like Blue Bloods or CSI.NY where even if you're not paying attention, you more or less can follow the story anyway!
Somebody gets murdered, scientific investigation, find murderer, murdered found, end of story!

  12. Not good news for Supernatural.  We need the ratings back up at 1.0 to be guaranteed a season 8.  It's times like these that I wish I had a Nielsen box.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Just goes to show the majority SPN viewers are not a Nielsen household or DVR it.

But I take the fact that Supernatural still did better than every other show this week on the CW but the Thursday night lineup, Friday is the least watched night of the week

    But just look at this

    VD 1.2/3 2.52
    Secret Circle 0.9/2 2.12

That's on a Thursday which is supposedly considered the most watched TV night, while Friday is the least. Put Supernatural on any other night and I bet it is the most watched show on the CW for the week or atleast the second most.

I also would guarantee that the season premiers for the CW on Monday will be lower than Supernatural.

The Ringer barely beat it in 18-49 demo (0.9/2) and had less viewers 1.94mil. And that by far was the most promoted show during the summer of the CW.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I ask myself that all the time.  And I am an America.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Compared to the rest of the CW, SPN was OK. I had hoped for at least 1.0 in the demo, but it could tick up a bit in the finals. Unfortunately, with a weak lead-in it's going to have to rely on it's core base of fans to keep it in the hunt and I'm pretty sure we can do it. It built on it's lead-in and will probably continue to do so which is rare for the CW, so that's a small silver lining. Where's a Nielsen box when you need one?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Definitely the last seasons of both Fringe and Supernatural.  The 1st episode of the season is usually the highest rated for the season.

Fringe is so anemic that it might even get yanked mid-season (40% drop from last season's premiere).  Maybe they will move Touch from Spring to Winter to fill the slot.Supernatural had a 30% drop from last season's premiere, but the live+7 numbers will probably help bring that up.  As bad as SPN is looking right now, the CW will likely have other shows higher on their chopping block list, so it should last out the season before being canned. As long as they get replaced with genre shows and not cop/lawyer/doctor shows, I will be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Damn SPN ratings, maybe the fans that said they would stop watching actually did.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Date in the title should be 23rd, not 24th.

    ReplyDelete
  19. But look at the finale numbers from last season for Supernatural. Basically the same.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm shocked that Nikkia's numbers were 'that' low. And I just don't understand why CW and FOX pit Fringe and SPN against each other. Those shows have a LOT of cross over fans. If they moved SPN up to 8 and kept Fringe at 9, I think ratings for both shows would be better IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wait so people really think if Supernatural is the 2nd or 3rd best show in terms on ratings through the 2011-12 tv season on The CW, that it will be done? Even though the new CW boss has gone on record as saying that Season 7 is not intended to be the last season and he would like to see it keep going.

Like I said before Supernatural was the third best show on the CW in terms of ratings this week and it did it on a Friday night, again. I'll even bet this episode will have better ratings than the Gossip Girl and Heart of Dixie premiers on Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  22. No, we always post the date that the ratings were released. We've been doing that since we started :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Then we have NBC putting Chuck on the 8pm slot next week, another show with audience crossover, its a bit crazy really.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Heh, guess I never looked that closely at the date.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I predicted a 0.9 and 1.98 million viewers for SPN and 0.8 and 1.91 million viewers for Nikita so not far off. I'm not surprised at the low ratings given the week the CW had and personally I dont think it really matters. Neither show is in danger of being cancelled before the season end and I still think SPN can get a season 8 even with low ratings. After all its survived this long on poor ratings, there are shows on the network worse off an and I dont think ratings really factor in all that much for SPN or many other CW shows, the network makes its money from international sales and DVD sales. If ratings actually mattered the CW would have gone under years ago. So while its disappointing to see such low numbers its nothing to panic over.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Exactly, which is really bad news.  Last season started with 2.9 and ended with 2.1, with a low of 1.9 (a typical trend for each season of SPN).  If the same holds true for this season, it will be dipping below 1.5 million viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  27. You are right.  Supernatural is not competing with Fringe or any other network.  The only thing it is competing with is other shows on the CW.  Everything except Thursday premiered pretty low so the numbers are worrisome but not devastating.  Once Monday's numbers come in we will have a fair picture of where Supernatural stands.  However, getting a 1.0 demo would assure an eighth season and make me a whole lot less stressed over the numbers.  That's all any show needs to be guaranteed a slot on next year's CW schedule.  Sad as that is.  With One Tree Hill ending this year, it takes even more of the pressure off because fewer other shows will be cancelled.  The saving grace for being on a failing network is that they don't have enough money to launch very many pilots so shows stay safe that wouldn't have a prayer on any other network.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Okay it doesn't help that CW barely I mean barley advertised for Supernatural and Nikita!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Given that it is Chuck's final season, that will likely earn it some extra viewers that would have tuned out otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well they're not very smart because they missed one hell of a season premiere. xD What's the bet they hear about it and then all scramble to watch it before next week?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't think SPN will be the 2nd or 3rd highest CW ratings for this season, but time will tell.  Going up against Fringe and Chuck is going to be pretty brutal (for all 3 shows, but SPN especially).

If I had a dollar for every time an exec said something like that about a show and then canceled it, I'd be rolling in huge piles of money, no, huge mountains of money.
What you seem to have gotten from his comment: "We intend to see Supernatural through to another season because we really like it that much."
What I got from his comment was: "We are going to be sad when we cancel Supernatural on a cliffhanger."

    ReplyDelete
  32. interesting that Supernatural started so weak. Was there preempts (not sure of the spelling)? Or is this going to be a trend? because of last season and the popularity that Fringe has gained? I don't know but I hope not. :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. I really have a problem with the ratings system.  It is not a true system.  The majority of people I know who have the boxes don't watch shows like Supernatural.  Even Fringe was down.  It doesn't make sense.  The only way they're going to know I watched is they see to who DVR's or Tivo's it.  They probably aren't  included in it yet.  I wonder if they realize that a lot of people over 49 watch television and we shop a good deal.  I'm 58, I love Supernatural.  I buy movies, books, music, and lot of other things.  I am not old in my mind or my lifestyle.  My son freaks out every time he looks at the music on my computer.  He's 33 and keeps telling that people my age don't listen that.  Really?  Well, then I'm an anomaly.  It's about time they started doing the ratings the correct way.

    ReplyDelete
  34. For Fringe 1.5 is around the range they need to keep, as Fox say all the need to do is hold the rating from last season. Fingers crossed it does not drop. Is it just me or is the rating for Friday night a litter lower than usually?

    ReplyDelete
  35. It isn't that people who are over 49 don't buy things, it is that they are less susceptible to being brainwashed by commercials (they are too thoroughly brainwashed by all the commercials they have watched over the years).

Though Nielsen does produce ratings for several different age brackets, it is just that 18-49 is the target audience for most of the shows covered by spoilertv.com so those are the numbers they report.

Disney shows are targeted at a much lower age bracket.  While a show like West Wing was targeted at an older and much more wealthy group (and thus highly coveted).

Nielsen does take DVRs into account with their live+3 and live+7 numbers.

Yes, Nielsen ratings become less and less relevant (to the networks(it is still relevant to tv advertisers)) as there are more and more sources for people to watch shows (itunes, amazon, hulu, ps3, x360, etc, etc.)  But, until there is a better source of conglomerated data showing the true number of viewers (rated by their value to the networks), we will have to continue making flawed predictions based on the Nielsen numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So what CW show is going to do better than Supernatural, other than Vampire Diaries and maybe Secret Circle(which dropped about 800k-900k viewers between it's premier and second episode)

Nikita? (1.88mil viewers last night. Outside of the first few eps of Nikita, SPN was around the same or better in ratings last year. From Feb to the end of the season it beat it every week)
    Ringer? (1.94mil viewers this week)
    90210? (1.47mil this week)
    Heart of Dixie? (debuts Monday)
Gossip Girl? (premiers Monday, but SPN beat it every week last year)
    h8r? (1.03mil viewers this week)
Top Model? (1.60mil viewers this week)

btw Chuck is on 8 which would effect Nikita.

    ReplyDelete
  37. you really should be looking at A18-49 in this not Viewers Viewers wont get shows renewed since networks dont care about viewers they care about A18-49

    ReplyDelete
  38. here's the Cw's Demo for the week of 9/19/11-9/26/11

    1. Vampire Diaries - 1.2 (looking safe)
    2. Secret Cicle - 0.9 (decent considering how low the cw is as a whole)
    3. Ringer - 0.9 (Same as secret circle)
    4. Supernatural - 0.8 (Could go either way but considering its on friday they expect lower rating and could get renewed)
    5. 90210 - 0.7 (Could go either way)
    6. America's Next Top model - 0.7 (likely to get renewed)
    7. Nikita - 0.6 (Could go either way but because its on friday again expect lower ratings)
    8. H8R - 0.4 (Certain to be cancelled)

    Average: 0.78 A18-49 Rating

  39.  I have my own way of dealing with commercial ads.

When I see something advertised on Tv, I make sure that I don't buy that product, because if they have to advertise it to sell it, it can't be such a great product!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Predictions for the week of 9/26/11-9/30/11 (CW)

  41. cause its The CW and not alot of peopkle tune into the CW compared to FOX, ABC, CBS and NBC

    ReplyDelete
  42. i agree it defintly should have been higher and Nikita too but its not just these shows its The Network as a whole that is doing bad for this reaon it is highly likely Supernatural will be renewed

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oops on Chuck.

If this season is like every other season of SPN (except season 3), then next week it will be at about 1.7.  Yes, Nikita will continue to drop also and most likely stay below SPN.  I think Top model will rise as SPN drops.

Once it drops to 1.5, several of those shows could top it.

A lot of people were excited about the season premiere, so it is possible the buzz will bolster the viewers over the next couple weeks, but I'll believe it when I see it.  Half of its competition this week were reruns, but that won't be the case next week.  It also is up against the Haven finale next week.  On the bright side, after that it will be up against Sanctuary which nobody watches anyway and is going to get slaughtered competing with SPN and Fringe.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Haven and Sanctuary both air at 10 pm not 9 pm so these shows don't compete with Fringe or SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes, the Fringe premiere is down from last season, but last season it was on a different night. It was an improvement on the finale this past May in viewers and the demo. I'd wait a few weeks before writing it off entirely.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Doh, I am on the west coast but get the east coast feed of Syfy and I was looking at the 2nd showing which is on at 9 here.  That is the problem with DVRing everything, I don't pay that close attention to the times unless I have conflicts.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm east coast so I have only the east syfy feed but I realize that syfy airs each new a multitude of times :). I love Haven and while I'm not wild about Sanctuary I am an Amanda Tapping fan and occasionally Sanctuary episodes are very good and sometimes they are lousy.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Damn, SPN is really down perhaps it will get better in the coming weeks. Blue Bloods is doing good, one of my favourite shows so I am happy. CSI:NY is down, lowest season premier ever! I hope this awesome show doesn't get cancelled as well. keep CSI: NY and SPN alive!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. And the guy from FOX said that if Fringe keeps its ratings on the same level as last season it could be renewed. But it is too soon to assume anything from these ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  50. You're not one to jump to conclusions are you? [/sarcasm]

    ReplyDelete
  51. No SPN at 8...NEVER. Too early for SPN...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Chuck comes on at 8 on NBC... SPN and Fringe will be against CSI:NY and Grimm.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow, well you're just a big ball of optimism aren't you? Why do I feel like you're trying to make predictions that you know is going to bring down the fans who love Supernatural when in truth you know nothing of how this season's ratings are going to turn out to be? I fail to see how his comment means anything from what you're saying. At all...

    ReplyDelete
  54. This is rather relieving and refreshing to hear. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Supernatural is the 4th highest rated actually

    1. Vampire Diaries - 1.2
    2. Secret Circle - 0.9
    3. Ringer - 0.9
    4. SPN - 0.8

    ReplyDelete
  56. i know so true ever since January 2011 the CW Ratings took a hit as a whole and the CW really needs to do something to increase them but having said that some shows despite low ratings may have a chance of renewal cause of the CWS overall low ratings i want them to renew Supernatural, Secret Circle, Supernatural, Nikita,  Vampire Diaries, RingerGossip Girl and Cancel 90210, H8R, Remodeled (once it airs and flops), One Tree Hill and Hart of Dixie

    ReplyDelete
  57. Keep in mind both Ringer and Secret Circle were at .8 in the overnights and ticked up to .9 in the finals, so until Friday's finals come out on Monday, there is still a chance to move up to 3rd or even 2nd for the week. But even a close 4th is not bad for a Friday show... in its seventh season. Fingers crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Exactly. My predictions were pretty close to yours. Warner Brothers knows its a money maker despite Nielsen ratings, so I can't see them letting it go quite yet. The season 6 DVD is currently pretty high on the Amazon sales charts. Besides, the CW has problems way worse than SPN. 90210, Gossip Girl, H8R, Nikita, even new dramas Secret Circle and Ringer aren't faring any better than a seven year old Friday show after these first weeks. No cause for alarm yet.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Fringe did great for a friday night, and is not too far from others shows. This shows how Fox is hardly gonna do better. I hope it gets renewed for a fifth and final season, that would be perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm glad to see that fringe is@ #6! & hopefully it will stay this way!
Can't bear the thought that they "will"  cancel  Fringe during Season 4...  Fringe has a Die-Hard Amount of Fans...

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree living here in the US myself.... lol but like most have said that the fact that it's Friday night when much of the "desirable advertising demographic" typically doesn't stay at home to watch, and the demo that usually does skews older and CBS shows which usually appeal more to that demo favor those shows... truly seems like a crime when quality programming like SPN/Fringe/Nikita struggle while drivel like Jersey shore kill in the ratings. But I imagine (and hope) that the dvr numbers will be much stronger.....

    ReplyDelete
  62. I am sad that Supernatural got such crappy ratings but you have to remember a lot of people are not watching tv on this night but do DVR or Tivo so I know that more people are watching that what thee Nielsen ratings show

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anyone knows when we will know the DVR numbers? Curious to see how many didn't watch Fringe live... Last season those were riduculusly good numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm sure the Masked Scheduler will let us know asap.

    ReplyDelete
  65. i have no account there, but you think it would help if people posted on message boards for firefly for example when the episode with jewel airs, and for btvs too, maybe people would tune.i m really worried, cause techincally even 90210 did better cause for it s premier it got 0.9 and only 2nd 0.7,

    ReplyDelete
  66. After such an amazing premiere for Supernatural these ratings just break
my heart. This is really bad news. I hate the Nielsen’s rating
system. I know more people watched the premiere but only those people with the stupid
effing box count. It’s just sad. It makes me angry. All the shows on the
CW have been down what's going on??? I don’t understand.
Ugh. This is such a buzz kill. This is also bad news for the network. Could we
    see it disappear all together?
I know Supernatural has a huge cult
following and the archaic and outdated Nielsen ratings system can not
and will not reflect the true number of people watching.

I am by no means a ratings guru but correct me if I'm wrong... Doesn't the network look at things out side of the Nielsen's rating system in this day and age?
I mean doesn't the fact that the Supernatural fandom got our show/network recognition by winning the first ever fan favorite cover
of TV Guide? And in addition to that getting the TV Guide fan favorite for
SCI-FI Show, Actor, and Non-Human Character? What about getting Supernatural moved into the biggest hall at comic con? You would think that being
the #1 show for fan conventions around the world would make someone take notice. And also having Supernatural: The
Anime Series, the first-ever anime adaptation of a U.S. television
series. It’s also ALWAYS in the top 10 DL'd TV shows on itunes, zune, etc. I think our DVD sales have been holding pretty steady too. Don't sponsors look at that? With the advancements in technology you'd think they'd update the ratings system. There has to be a better way to get a more accurate ratings sample.

Does anyone know if the time shifted viewing #'s are included?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Now you know how Chuck fans like me feel. I know it's very frustrating. Unfortunately, the Nielsen system is still the main one used, which sucks because it's a very broken system. If DVR ratings are included in those numbers, it would be live + same day, which is the live ratings + the DVR playback up to 3am the same night. I'm not sure if those ratings include the DVR playback or not. One of the problems is that DVR + same day or not, the live ratings are always given the most weight since that way viewers can't skip through the commercials. And of course the bad result of this is that the live ratings will continue to decline as more and more people DVR everything because unfortunately for the big companies, viewers don't want to see their stupid ads.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I saw rating tables yesterday supernatural was 2.1. I think that one is more accurate but still not sure.
