I'm a huge fan of the book trilogy, and I must say, I liked the tv show, but didn't like some of the changes. Cassie's mom's dead, the immediate reveal that her dad was not a good person (duh! for anyone who's read the series), the fact that Diana's dad and Fay's mom are obvious bad guys.... But a great start. I love the fact that the girl from Life Unexpected and Thomas Dekker from Terminator:SCC are on this series as Cassie and Adam!!! Will watch again. Hopefully they don't screw it up.
It was a decent pilot. And let's not forget it's from the same people who brought us the Vampire Diaries, and how AWFUL was that pilot? If it starts out ok and takes the same trajectory as TVD it might be worth sticking around for. I felt it was about as good as the Ringer pilot.
That made me laugh quite audibly. Thanks. I've got the show queued up but haven't watched it yet. The fact that everyone is creepy makes me more interested somehow.
I watched because I liked the books in high school. Terrible reason really. I thought it was blah but that it could be very interesting if they focus on the right story lines. Mostly though the super irritating characters outweighed the good ones.
I'm watching the first 6 episodes of Secret Circle because Guy Norman Bee directed the 6th episode. If it doesn't improve drastically in those 6 episodes, I will be dropping it like a hot biscuit.
I liked the Ringer plot more but maybe because it felt more grownup and I am desperate for the CW to take that turn. The pacing in Secret Circle was better but the characters were better in Ringer for me. Both of them had some strange scenes and both have the potential to be much, much better than their pilots. I'll probably stick with Ringer slightly longer than Secret Circle but they both have a lot to prove if they are going to be appointment TV.
It was a decent opener for me, and will give it a few eps to see if KWilliamson gives it the pacing and development that he gave to the VD, which turned out pretty good after a meh pilot.
Pilot was better than TVD, and considering TVD is easily the best thing on this network right now, I'll give it a good chance and probably watch through the winter break.
The only character in Secret Circle that came close to piquing my interest was the Grandmother. The story set up was all...been there done that. This isn't going in my DVR. I think I'll check back in 4 or 5 weeks and see if its improved.
But the CW only sort of accidentally wound up with Ringer. IIRC the CBS execs turned it down for CBS but put it on the CW instead of killing it out right. (Personally I think Ringer has a better shot at finding a footing on the CW than it would hav eon CBS (and it doesn't really fit CBS' current identity.) But I agree with you...I think it would be nice for the CW to add a little more grownup shows to their line up.
Read the book series and like this once better then the show.It is not like the books at all and is a little unrealistic. They should really cast a full circle which is allways with 12 members in a coven and not leave all the other characters from the books out.(laurel, susan, henderson brothers ect)my openion is the other guy who plays nick would have been a better adam in casting and adam would be a way better nick.this is just my opinon
Hated the ridiculously overdone dramatic music during the tire blowout scene! For that matter the score music was way over done for the entire episode as far as I'm concerned.
For a town Cassie's mother never wanted to return to she sure had a lot of "good friends" didn't she?Crazy predictable with a lot of one-note "teen" actors. The adults are a bit better but the show being what it is and being on The CW, I'm sure the focus will remain on the kids of course. It's all set up to continue being very predictable. Cassie and Diana become good friends which will make the not-so-hidden crush between Cassie and Adam hurt Diana that much more. Faye will be power-hungry and hurt people causing Cassie (as the eventual strongest) to stop her or save her from herself. The only thing I'm not sure of is if they wait to play out the love triangle before or after Cassie and Diana have to stop Diana's dad and Faye's mom.Nothing was original and I felt like I had seen most of it before in other movies or series... namely The Craft. That doesn't mean it isn't watchable though. It was a decent introduction to a series. Whether I keep watching will depend on the execution and originality of future episodes.
I have not read the books, but it seems like not knowing immediately that the parent's were obviously badguys and behind it all would make for a much more interesting story.
Good pilot. They introduce all the elements for a great series. Cassie is a great character and i like the adult plot-intrigue. This year TSC is the only teen show, but with supernatural elements, of the new line up. So how you can complain? I can't wait for the other episodes, i think it was better than TVD, that at the beginning was slow and not so original
It was a decent pilot..I'll give it a few more episodes, that's for sure.In my opinion,it was better than the VD pilot.VD found its pace around episode 6 or 7 and I'll stick around to see if the same happens here.
It has potential. They just have to focus on the right things.I'm curious about the last circle. What happened and why Diana's father went after Cassie's mom.Why do they need Cassie? The problems with the show will start if (okay, let's be honest, when) they start focusing way too much on Cassie,Adam and their efforts to stay away from each other, because they don't want to hurt Diana. And,shockingly, they won't be able to... It would be so much more interesting to explore the dynamics within the circle instead of focusing on just Cassie and Adam and I hope they do it.Nick can be an interesting character, since I'm guessing that they'll go for the mysterious type.Diana can be a good character too. The writers will play the main factor on the show's success. In my opinion,VD has a couple of actors that could carry the show for a while if the plots weren't working.I don't think they have that luxury here..
......I was so disapointed. It was a promising show....but instead it turned out to be another CW's show for teens. it was a big OTH meets the vampires soap opera. Already going deep in a love triangle? look like it will be the only subject of the whole serie like it is for the vampires
The pilot wasn't as clunky as Ringer. It moved along at a brisk even pace. The problem is that most of the characters don't really grab you. Britt Robinson was just fine as Cassie but it's hard to single out any supporting character who seemed very interesting. Gale Harold's character seemed mildly amusing but was such a seemingly paper-thin, hand-wringingly evil villain that I've already nicknamed him Snidely Whiplash. (not a compliment)
I can already tell this show needs more dynamic characters.
I liked it. But seriously I am the kind of person that can sit through CRAP and love it for the cast so i dont know if its any good since im in love with like 3 cast members.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I only watched it because there was nothing else on and I was curious. Definitely won't be tuning in again.
ReplyDeleteAlso, WHY IS EVERYONE A CREEPER? ON THIS SHOW?

ReplyDeleteIKR? Everyone is so creepy!

ReplyDeleteHot biscuits are good...
Not when you drop them on the floor. :-P
ReplyDeleteAnd no, the 5 second rule never, ever applies. I work with kids. Trust me on that.

ReplyDeleteSeveral actors I was pleased to see. Most of the teen circle characters didn't impress me at all. Nothing about this impressed me. (I take that back... I liked the staging of the mom's murder, and the 'you don't want to experience drowning' lecture was fun.) The teens all came across as characters I've seen before. I recently rewatched the pilot of Vampire Diaries and I have to say I think it was worse than this pilot. But the there was something interesting abou the characters and I watched long enough to get hooked because one of the characters, Elena, took a left turn from cliché and the story got interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe only character in Secret Circle that came close to piquing my interest was the Grandmother. The story set up was all...been there done that. This isn't going in my DVR. I think I'll check back in 4 or 5 weeks and see if its improved.

ReplyDeleteThe creepiness was the part that I found most interesting honestly. XD
ReplyDeleteThe non-creepy characters were so 2-dimensional.... some were 1-dimensional for that matter. At least the creep-factor made them fun.
Good pilot. They introduce all the elements for a great series. Cassie is a great character and i like the adult plot-intrigue. This year TSC is the only teen show, but with supernatural elements, of the new line up. So how you can complain?

It thought it was a better pilot than TVD's pilot, which kinda sucked. I will give it a few episodes, curious to see where they are taking it =)
ReplyDeleteFirst I couldn't picture Thomas Dekker as Adam, but I guess I'm convinced, he's not as bad as I thought he would be =P
I'm literally five seconds into the pilot, but the song she's listening to in the car is amazing (Young Blood - The Naked and Famous)
ReplyDelete......I was so disapointed. It was a promising show....but instead it turned out to be another CW's show for teens. it was a big OTH meets the vampires soap opera. Already going deep in a love triangle? look like it will be the only subject of the whole serie like it is for the vampires
ReplyDeleteIt was okay but not really convincing. The next episodes will have to improve or I won't watch it for long.
ReplyDeleteNot bad but certainly not great either.

Snidely Whiplash (for reference)

I totally agree about the paper-thin characters in the supporting cast.
ReplyDeleteAHHAHAHA oh gosh. nice. I will use that one day. hot biscuit
