More than any other series Ringer has me talking to my TV or at least thinking "how can you not know this fact?" Maybe it's the twin factor... or just really predictable plots that I assume even the characters can figure out?
Siobhan had recently started emergency fund at the bank with more money than her checking, but Bridget does not consider she wanted to get away from her life instead of committed suicide? The photo the hitman had is one from Andrew and Siobhan's house (so she thought before finding out it was her holiday card), but she only considers Andrew could be behind the hit - not Siobhan?
If I were hiding my identity I may wipe the cell phone clean of fingerprints before I leave it behind.... Okay she decided not to leave it, but at the time she was planning on leaving it.
The threat Bridget made against the hitman's partner is such a hollow threat, how can she think it will be effective? The phone goes to the FBI... awesome, but what if the phone is in your purse where you always keep it as someone kills you? They grab the phone and voila - threat averted!
Those points aside Ringer is getting better as it goes along. The pacing is starting to feel organic rather than forced, the acting is fairly good, I'n starting to get pulled into the story a little more each episode, but something still seems missing to me.
Another good, but not great episode so I voted "OK". I probably will keep watching, but I hope the little things I notice in future episodes are surprising details or subplots i didn't see coming instead of character inconsistencies or story flaws.
I find this show keeps getting better. I'm interested in the mystery and the characters are growing on me. Like that the daughter is shipped out for awhile and I refuse to believe that Henry is evil. Not so sure I want to feel sorry for Siobhan though. I liked her better when I thought she was just a cold conniver.
Is Bridgette going to figure out that she shouldn't walk through empty spaces yelling "Hello"? I was more interested in finding out what Shioban was up to in Paris.
Thinking back on the episode it occurs to me that this episode was really predictable. More than I remember the previous eps being. Which is to say...every storyline in the ep was predictable rather than just a couple. Knew what was going to happen to the teacher, knew they were going to exonerate Shioban's husband, knew the partner was going to stop the money transfer...and on down the line.
I tend to give Bridget a break on most of her dumb decisions and her slow thought processes because the character has never been advertised as a braniac. I tend to be impressed when she actually thinks something out. :-)
It's gettting better, despite all the parts that require a healthy suspension of disbelief: Like Bridget acting pretty calm over the issue of the disappearing corpse, and still pulling off the ruse of impersonating Siobahn's life without any detailed knowledge of pretty much anything, and foolishly calling her sponsor/romantic interest without realizing that his lines are sure to be tapped by the authorities if not the bad guys... Anyway, I hope that they tighten up the writing and show more of Siobahn's backstory to help us start filling in the holes soon, and to give us a different perspective.
loved it it is buliding and it's kind of like a thriller/drama . Feel sorry for the black man that got drugged cause he was clean for 3 years :(. I am starting to like Andrew not looking but him and Bridget have chemistry. Still waiting to find out what her sisiters motive is ,is it something to do with Sean ? . The cope if iffy for me a bit boring . Love Gemma as a friend but i know nothing good is going come out of this friendship unless Bridget reveals her secret but cant see her doing that . The bady is so far qite good and believable, hate that bit..ch that Andrew works beside
Siobhan's story interests me more than Bridget's too. I think that's because we really know almost nothing about her. I would love to get the backstory on Sean and why Siobhan blames Bridget for his death.
I have to contest most of your digs against Bridget's behavior and thought processes (re: the account, the phone, the photo, etc.). The critiques of her actions seem to be based on someone taking a rational, logical, unbiased look at the evidence in front of her. I can't really see anyone in Bridget's position being able to do that.
Bridget is hiding from the FBI and Macawi, and leading a double life. She's forced to pick up where her sister's life left off with absolutely no prior knowledge of her family, friends, career, relationships, etc. and living under the assumption that her sister (whom she hasn't had contact with in half a decade) offed herself and that someone is trying to kill her (Siobhan) and damn near succeeded.
In this predicament, it has to take all of someone's willpower not to be completely freaking out or breaking down every minute of the day. Her ability for rational, objective thought has got to be severely impaired.
Pretty good episode. They really didn't hold back on Bridget's sponsor. That's one loyal dude. I held my breath for a second when Siobhan called Henry. If she had actually talked to him, Bridget would really be up a creek.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
It's getting better, I think.

ReplyDeleteHa!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should try to think of her that way too.... Wonder if it'll work? XD

ReplyDeleteIt's getting worse. Some of the laziest writing I've ever seen -- a 5 year old could do a better job. This'll be cancelled.

ReplyDeleteIt's getting much better. And the fact that it ended with Portishead was icing on the cake. :D
