About what I expected. Solidly done, retro and soapy.
I think it suffered from trying to do too much at once in the pilot. It established the French flight attendant and her adultery, Maggie's rebel streak, the co-pilot's poor attitude, the new Captain's love life, the Bridget mystery, the Cameron sister's sibling rivalry, Kate's aspiring spy career and the overall espionage plot using the airlines.
I think like most pilot's they attempted to establish each plot and each character instead of letting the story develop incrementally . There is a lot that's fun and could be expended on to make for great plots. It was paced very nicely and did not have any of the scenes that just feel out of place. I liked it, but it did leave something to be desired.
Overall a good pilot and better than it's most similar retro cousin The Playboy Club.
I actually really liked it!! It was way better than the playboy club. Sure it was very soapy, but I knew that before watching it. I´ll surely watch next week as well.
This was a pretty good pilot. All the stewardess characters were likable enough, decent plot lines were set-up, the retro look of the show was well done, and the use of music was superb. Using "Keep a Knockin'" during the pre-wedding escape was great. (although I prefer the Little Richard version)
I'd say Karine Vanasse's "Colette" was a real standout character but all four of the female leads did a good job.
With that said, although I liked this pilot I'm not sure I liked it enough to continue to watch with my list of weekly shows being as full as it is already.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
This was pretty much a huge disappointment... Playboy Club is WAYYY better.

Surprisingly good.
ReplyDeleteIt was a decent pilot opener, establishing the atmosphere and some of the character backstories. Good start.
ReplyDeleteI had it on and was listening to it in the background, but nothing about it really grabbed me. I don't think I'll be staying up for it again.
ReplyDeleteIt's fluffy and kind of chessy and yet against all odds I found myself liking it, will be watching again

ReplyDeleteI thought the editing was choppy and the writing was uneven. The acting was on a high school or junior college level. Major disappointment.
