This episode was so good. I nearly fell off my chair when the Rev was shot. I still don't quite know how to feel about it. I mean the Rev was horrid, but he was a devil they knew (well, as much as you can know anything in Haven). Who's going to rise up to take his place? I hope it's not Duke. I'll be sad if he goes bad on us.
I sat there in shock for five minutes, having to pause the TV when the Rev was shot, but you know what? I would have done the exact same thing; no questions asked. I'm not sure what to think of Duke now though :/
I have to say that I think the addition of the arc story elements has helped the show out immensely. Allowing the Rev to be a real villain has allowed them to write stories that ramp up the tension and keep me from wondering around the house puttering or focusing more on the computer screen than the TV screen. And this episode was no exception. I was a little bummed that the moron who went toddling off after a serial killer all by himself, didn't get more than a bump on the head. (Though that was a totally realistic thing. :-)
The troubled of the week was really weak but they weren't really the focus of the story. That was all character based stuff going and that was all pretty great. Duke, being unable to let Audrey believe he'd changed sides. (though having that conversation on the beach with the Rev not that far away probably wan't the smartest choice) Nathan, trying to manage the situation. And the Rev opening challenging Nathan.
The Rev.
The Rev.
He is one of the few characters that I have ever watched that caused a physical reaction in me when he came on screen. I actually frown. Truly despicable character. (The tone of his hatred rings so true.) I would watch the show and hope that someone would take him out.
Wish fulfilled and I'm not as happy as I thought I would be. :-) The writers surprised me (yay!) with that one. But my second feeling was....did we just lose some juicy story fodder? But I do realize that while his character was the only point we've seen that could turn the forces against our heros. That doesn't mean there won't be someone to fill the vacuum or that the people who believed what the Rev preached will suddenly support the Troubled. So, Nathan's problems aren't automatically over.
Basically, while the first season was okay bubble gum tv for me; watchable but not a problem if I didn't see it. The show has been so much better this season. Is next weeks ep the last?
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Damn. We need more episodes of Haven like this one and the past few! Awesome!

ReplyDeleteI loved the episode. I am starting to worry that Duke will eventually end up as the main bad guy, which would be interesting but sad.
ReplyDeleteYou are assuming the Rev is going to stay dead...
