  1. I really like this show.  I still think they should have given the part to a more recognizable actor.  He's just not doing it for me.  Of course, Ben, is really great.

  2. I'm still not sure about this show.  It obviously had a much bigger budget than a lot of the pilots I've watched this year, each shot looks beautiful and the direction was spot on.  But it does seem that it can't make up it's mind if it's a straight drama or has sci-fi elements...a machine that can read and decide who is 'bad' and some of the fighting is not what I'd call humanely possible :P

I'm also not entirely comfortable with a 'machine' that can determine who is going to do something bad.  Feels a lil too much like big brother exacting justice before a crime is committed imo, and I don't like that idea, no matter how it is dressed up.

  3. I am still thinking that the first episode was an introduction -- I think once we get a little more down the road we will see that these people and this technology are all more complicated than what was presented in the Pilot...

  4. I think that Big Brother premise and it being disturbing is the exact point of the series.
Do the ends justify the means?
Is it ethically right to preemptively arrest, take out or kill someone who will kill others in the future?
I think that should be fairly disturbing to us all!

One minor thing tho... The Machine does not decide who is bad at all. It uses its collected date analyzes patterns and finds people who will be involved in bad situations. It does not know which side they are on though - perpetrator or victim.

We may see more Sci-Fi on the series but so far most has been science fact really - aside from "The Machine" of course. In more than a few of the promotional interviews and videos they talked about how the technology they use in the series is fact not fiction and will be shocking to most people. (Again... aside from "The Machine" XD)

I'm glad I don't live in London or NYC with all those cameras. Disturbing stuff even for the most law abiding citizens  I know that much!

  5. I liked the pilot, but I am waiting to see where the season takes us I guess. Will it be a weekly case of the week, or will there be more myth arc over the top of it. Either way it needs to find a balance of stories os it does not get old too fast....

  6. Yeah I get the machine is vague as to who is the bad guy, I meant more that it has enough intelligence to work out a bad situation from all the data flow it receives, lol.  The other tech used is all fairly science fact, but what I'm taking about is how one man walks into a room of thugs buying guns, and ends up shooting all of them in the leg while using one of them and their gun.  That's not humanely possible, makes it more sci-fi than fact for me, like he's the six million dollar man not some pissed off ex forces dude, lol.

  7. Ha! Yeah I agree.
Even if I have personally witnessed an ex-Navy Seal bouncer take out 4 wannabe gangsters in a street fight outside I bar I worked at. Amazingly impressive stuff, but it feels like you're watching a video game or something! XD

  8. I know an extremely fit ex forces guy can take people down, I have no problem with the train scene at the start for example.  He was clearly way above their level, but being a crack shot with no aiming and spinning around...it takes it over that line XD

  9. So many shows do that I know!

I saw a science documentary about how special forces types train their body to overcome elements and circumstances. They had them do a target shoot and then submerged them in ice cold water adding ice to it until they were basically hypothermic and had them shoot at the target again to compare. The numbers went up! XD They did other tests too but that one stuck in my mind the most.

I'm not defending the series, just commenting about how freaking nuts operators are when it comes to mind over body!

  10. I'm guessing it's going to be about 80-20, like The Mentalist.  Most episodes will be case-of-the-week and every six weeks or so you'll get an ongoing plot episode.
