FOX MOVES IN WITH “NEW GIRL” FOR A FULL-SEASON PICKUP
FOX has ordered an additional 11 episodes of the hit comedy NEW GIRL, bringing the series to a 24-episode season order, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.
“We love the charming Zooey Deschanel and the entire cast, we’re knocked out with the work that Liz Meriwether and the whole staff is doing and we are really psyched about the upcoming episodes in the pipeline," said Reilly. “It's great that audiences have responded so positively so far and we're confident that even more people will embrace the show – and more comedy on FOX – this season."
NEW GIRL premiered as FOX’s highest-rated fall sitcom debut in 10 years. Since it launched, the single-camera comedy has quickly established itself as Tuesday’s No. 1 series among Adults 18-49 and this season’s No. 1 new series among Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Teens.
In next week’s all-new episode, “Wedding,” airing Tuesday, Oct. 4 (9:01-9:31 PM ET/PT), the guys are invited to a wedding of a mutual friend. NICK (Jake Johnson), fearful he will run into his ex-girlfriend Caroline (guest star Mary Elizabeth Ellis), asks JESS (Deschanel) to be his date. Meanwhile, WINSTON (Lamorne Morris) takes his role as an usher very seriously and gets competitive on the dance floor with a young guest. SCHMIDT (Max Greenfield) not only catches the eye of a beautiful woman (guest star Katie Cassidy), but also his “frenemy” Gretchen (guest star Natasha Lyonne) whom he hooks up with at every wedding reception.
The next two all-new episodes of NEW GIRL air at special times. In “Cece Crashes,” airing on a special night on Wednesday, Oct. 12 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), CECE (Hannah Simone) convinces Jess that Nick likes her more than just as a roommate and Schmidt tries to seal the deal with Cece. In “Naked,” airing at a special time at 9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT on Tuesday, Oct. 18, Jess accidentally walks in on a naked Nick, sending his self-confidence to an all-time low – just after an attractive co-worker (guest star Lake Bell) agrees to go out on a date with him.
Among other upcoming guest stars on NEW GIRL is Justin Long (“Live Free & Die Hard,” “Going The Distance”), playing the role of a music teacher who catches the eye of Jess.
Created and written by Liz Meriwether (“No Strings Attached”), NEW GIRL follows a young woman (Deschanel) who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys she doesn’t know, changing all of their lives in unexpected ways.
NEW GIRL is produced by Chernin Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Meriwether, Jake Kasdan, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Dave Finkel and Brett Baer are executive producers. Kasdan directed the debut and will continue to direct episodes of the series.

Good news,
ReplyDeletethought i doubt kevin reilly has seen an episode of New Girl.
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI was skeptical at first after i saw the pilot the other week but i gave the show a shot again last night and really enjoyed it.
Love this, and I don't think you get to be Kevin Reilly without seeing EVERY episode first.
ReplyDeletebut when you get there....
ReplyDeleteI'm confused. I've seen nothing but mixed reviews for New Girl, but it gets picked up this soon? Also, for 2 Broke Girls, 90% of reviews seem to hate the show, but it's ratings tell otherwise.
ReplyDeleteCan someone make sense of this?
Love this show! =D
ReplyDeleteYay!
ReplyDeleteWell I can for The New Girl at least.
ReplyDeleteSome people love Zooey Deschanel and find the show funny because of her. Others cannot stand Zooey (raises hand) and find the show terrible because of her. So there really is not much middle ground or okay reviews.- just great and terrible. It's still early on 2 Broke Girls. It was better than I expected but a pilot does not a watchable series make necessarily.
Haven't watched it yet because I really don't like the main actress.
ReplyDeleteMeh... I watched the first 2 eps, and even though I kinda like ZD to degree, but the only charatcter that I liked was the no longer on Wayan jr's coach. I can see why it might have a strong appeal for ZD fans and women in general, but it's not a keeper for me. Congrats to the show.
ReplyDeletenot surprised but idk how i feel yet. Congrats to the show though
ReplyDeleteWhy all the time adjustments?
ReplyDeleteThey didn't waste any time pulling the trigger on this. It's probably because FOX is overly excited to finally have an actual hit half-hour comedy. FOX's history with half-hour comedy is as bad as CBS's track record with medical dramas.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this show so far, its so something I would never watch but I'm actually finding myself LOL a lot. The ratings though for only 2 episodes have been great so no surprises FOX would give it a full season.
