Gossip Girl Boss Previews Blair and Her Men, Serena's New Life, and Exploiting the UES

A scandalous book, a mysterious new outsider, and one complicated love triangle — or is it a square?

The fifth season of The CW’s Gossip Girl, premiering Set. 26, has enough drama to keep its titular blogger glued to her keyboard for weeks. Wedding bells will be ringing for one Upper East Sider with a bevy of men in her life, while another finds her destiny far away from Manhattan.

Below, executive producer Josh Safran previews a new season that he says will be lighter, poppier, and a lot more fun.

  1. So glad Chuck and Blair aren't over. I'm really hoping they redeem Chuck for all the bad things he's done this season.  Those two are so my OTP.  Weirdly, I'm looking forward to Serena's storyline more than Blair's for once.  Haha.

  2. What about Nate?  It sucks that he gets no attention from the writers.  I'm also disappointed there is nothing on Serenate.  I was looking forward to Season 5 after seeing the pictures of them in CA and now I'm getting worried.  At least I can count on the writers never completely abandoning Chuck and Blair.  It would be awesome if I could get both my couples at the same time though.

  3. Loved the interview! Excited for more CB scenes for sure, and Serena finally getting her act together has been a long time coming. I can't help wondering about the exclusion of Nate though- I thought the writers said he had a storyline this season? Something? Anything?

  4. One piece of info from this interview that I like a great deal: Chuck and Blair will always have stories together. :D  Add in the news about Chuck not getting a girlfriend and I'm looking forward to Chuck doing a bit of pining next season.  Blair had a season's worth of longing for Chuck.  I hope we get the same from Chuck next season.  It feels more like Season 1

    But I've got to ask:
When did Blair become Serena and Serena become Blair?  lol
Also, what about the pregnancy?  Who's having the baby?

  5. Great interview.   So glad to hear that Chuck and Blair will never be done.  So excited to see more of this relationship

  6. Heh.  Besides Eric, Nate has received the most dull storylines on the show.  I don't see that changing, unfortunately.  The last time Nate was being interesting, he was sticking it to Madchen Amick's character on the DL.

  7. Great interview!  Loving the bit about Chuck and Blair.  Is it just me or there was a sense of focusing more on individual storylines (over romance) for all the mains in season 5?  I would love that.  Give the opportunity of growth for everyone.

  10. GOSSIP GIRL is at the top of my possible "Dump List". If this show really does drift more towards Chuck and Blair together again - arguably the most abusive relationship in TV history - I'm going to turn it off and never come back.
