Bones‘ unorthodox approach to its seventh season just got even… unorthodoxier.
You’ll recall that Emily Deschanel’s pregnancy already forced the show to scale back its number of episodes to 13, six this fall (beginning Nov. 3) and seven in the spring, with its spinoff, The Finder, bridging the gap in the winter. Well, now comes word that Fox has ordered four additional episodes, possibly to air over the summer or be carried to Season 8 (assuming there is a Season 8).
Executive producer Stephen Nathan acknowledges that “it’s a very odd situation we’re in,” adding that Fox “has scheduled us for 13 episodes, but they want as many episodes as we can produce.”
Whatever happens, the four bonus hours will likely air apart from the original 13. “We’re constructing the season so that the finale is Episode 13,” Nathan says. “And then there will ultimately be four more episodes that we can play with. [Fox] could run them on a different night, they could run them in the summer, or they could hold them for fall.”

How confusing.
ReplyDeleteVery strange, not sure what to make of it...
ReplyDeleteI'm very curious how this will be going, 'four episodes they can play with', sounds weird, but fun.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what to say. Sounds confusing at best. I always save the last show so when the series start up again I can refresh my memory. This sounds like it will hurt the show more than help it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why but I like this... ''decision''
ReplyDeleteFour episodes that likey Fox will use as spot-filler in case some of their Dramas fail and they need something to fill the hole in the schedule.
ReplyDeleteI remember they've used Bones (and House) repeat in the past to fill the Fridays, sounds like now they're skipping to new episodes.
I don't have an opinion about that now, it'll depend how well goes next season.
ReplyDeleteweird, we must wait and see what happens :P
ReplyDelete:/ strange... XD
ReplyDeletei really hope this happens! im so excited :)
ReplyDeleteHow so? They're ordering 4 extra episodes which will probably run consecutively sometime after the end of the 13 episode season. I highly doubt they'd tack on the shows to the next season. Seemed straightforward to me.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good. Shows that Fox are keen on keeping Bones around...at least for this year.
ReplyDeleteyay four extra episodes. I dont care when they air them its just good that we've got more episodes.
ReplyDeleteThe more I read about the number of episodes in season seven, the less I understand the situation. The story of TV is full of actress being pregnant during their work on a show and they didn't have to cut the number of episodes. Let's face it!!! That's only an excuse to run that silly spin off
ReplyDeleteIf they utilize this to make a little 4 episode arc that's its own separate little season, this could actually be really cool. Not nearly as exciting if it's more filler episodes, but still, at least more Bones.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see the show take this opportunity to try something different, like attempting a single story that's serialized across 4 parts.
ReplyDeletei hope they're airing the 4 extra episodes over the summer!
ReplyDeleteUnorthodox is a very precise word. It reminds me of The West Wing. The first episode of the season following September 11 was not part of the story. Just a 'closed' episode to comment on the attacks. Of course a series about the president could not avoid the subject. But then, it was only one episode. I imagine what kind of gymnastics the writers will have to do in order to make four without advancing the story. Really crazy.
ReplyDeletea 4ep arc could be good if they do it right
