American Horror Story - Pilot - Advance Review
Sep 24, 2011
American Horror Story ReviewsFX is a network that prides itself in edgy programming. With a line-up that includes Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Wilfred, Louie, among others, I really have high hopes for anything premiering on the network.
American Horror Story is an ambitious new series from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the co-creators of the former FX series Nip/Tuck and the current mega-hit Glee. Murphy describes AHS as a “psychosexual thriller”, which honestly made me groan. But after watching the pilot, the description is bang-on.
Now before going into the specifics of the pilot, I wanted to layout my concerns I had before watching the episode. While promoting the series, FX has been stating that the new horror series is “From the co-creators of Glee”. Although it is accurate, I questioned why they used Glee instead of Nip/Tuck. After all, Nip/Tuck is closer to AHS’s target audience, not to mention that it was on the same network. It seemed like a no-brainer.

I have to agree --
ReplyDeleteWhen reading about it, I thought it sounded immense.
Then I heard it was from the creator of 'Glee'....
This looks really promising and good but I’m still deciding whether to
ReplyDeletecheck it out or not.I just feel this should of been a miniseries
considering Ryan Murphy’s history with television. Murphy is actually an
excellent concept man and he really knows how to start a series.
However, he then has a need to top himself with every episode and the
storylines start to spiral out if control. He just can’t do long term,
just look at Nip/Tuck.
Awww crap, everything I was worried about in a Ryan Murphy show post-Glee.
ReplyDelete:(
Not as good as I had hoped, but I will still watch anyway.
ReplyDeleteme too.
ReplyDeleteI'm a still give it a watch, just for the familiar faces.
ReplyDeletePretty much everything I thought it would be. I just think at this point of his stardom, Ryan Murphy is incapable of doing anything that is grounded in reality and not about shock value.
ReplyDeleteI'll give it a few episodes because they keep adding more and more cast members that I adore, but I don't think this will ever be appointment viewing for me. I'll probably wait for the season to be over and then catch up later.
