Up All Night - Casting News - Nick Cannon joins cast in recurring role

Thanks to Bruce_F for the heads up.

America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon has joined the cast of another NBC series, the new Wednesday night comedy Up All Night, in a recurring role.

Cannon will play Calvin, the wildly popular co-host to talk show star Ava (Maya Rudolph), who can't help but be jealous of the attention her energetic sidekick receives. Also joining the show is Jennifer Hall (Nip/Tuck), who will play Missy, Ava's insecure (and not quite respected) assistant.

The new gig gives Cannon two NBC paychecks. He'll continue as the host of AGT even as Up All Night starts taping. Coincidentally (or not), NBC will use the season finale of AGT on September 14 to launch Up All Night immediately afterward, in a special one-time only 10 p.m. time slot. (The show moves to its regular 8 p.m. time period the following week.)

Cannon's other credits include the movies Drumline and Love Don't Cost a Thing. Hall's other credits include HBO's Unscripted, as well as guest spots on CSI: Miami and Castle.

The additions of Cannon and Hall to Up All Night came after NBC and the show's producers decided to switch the comedy's workplace setting from a public relations firm to the set of a TV talk show. The comedy stars Christina Applegate as Ava's producer, and centers on her role as a newly minted working mother. Will Arnett plays her husband.

  1. There's an old Dave Chappelle quote that would be quite useful here if it wasn't so vulgar.  :)
