Shameless US?
ReplyDeleteBeing Human is another show, the BBC one wins by miles in my eyes :P
ReplyDeletei dont quite understand this
ReplyDeleteThe Skins drama just makes me laugh. I watched the US version and it wasn't half as "out there" as the UK one yet it still gets slammed for being too racy lol!
ReplyDeleteThe US ripoff so many shows tbh. I don't think it's a fair match between Pop Idol and American Idol either, I think maybe the X Factor and American Idol would have been better?
ReplyDeleteBut either way, interesting stuff! :)
Except that American Idol is a direct rip off of Pop Idol. You can't compare it to the X Factor because that's an entirely different show. But not to worry, the US has now ripped off the X Factor too starting this fall so we'll get to compare them soon...
ReplyDeleteYeah, I realise that, but I was just thinking how Pop Idol and the X Factor are pretty much the same show, the same premise, and the same people behind them both.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame the USA feels the need to take UK shows unto their own production base considering their Original series are so much superior to the UK.
ReplyDeleteUK USA
ReplyDeletePrime Suspect (Helen Mirren) vs Prime Suspect (Maria Bello) airs this Fall.Touching Evil (Robson Green on ITV) vs Touching Evil (Jeffrey Donovan on USA).The Eleventh Hour (Patrick Stewart) vs Eleventh Hour (Rufus Seweell)I haven't seen the US Prime Suspect yet obviously, but go ahead and write down all 3 UK series are superior now. Very unlikley PS will be as good as the original judging from previews and the other two UK series(originals) were much better.
I'm in the minority , but I saw that one as a draw or US "win" honestly.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I loved the first 2 seasons of the original UK series... Season 3 left me wanting and annoyed ... and needing to be won over again by the Season 4 premiere to even keep watching...
So we have the UK to blame for these mostly terrible shows? Thanks a lot.
ReplyDeleteHow was US Skins more racier than UK Skins? The UK version has lots of nudity and full on sex scenes and no one really blinks an eye. The US version was a lot less racier and yet there was outrage. It's more to do with culture/attitudes in the respect countries than the actual raciness. The UK version would give the PTC heart attacks.
ReplyDeleteNothing compares to the UK version of The Apprentice. The Apprentice USA is just another American, over-bloated, cliched, borefest load of reality sh*t with overused music ques, endless arguments and tons of pointless filler. I couldn't get 10 minutes into one episode and when compared to the vastly superior and much more interesting Apprentice UK (which is actually aired in 16:9 HD, welcome to the 21st Century, yanks!)
ReplyDeletethat's like copying someone's test paper and saying it was their fault when you get it wrong too.
ReplyDeleteOh, seeing as I never watched either I didn't even realise there was a US remake.
ReplyDeleteI love US tv, I really do but sometimes they try and take really good UK tv shows and fail spectacularly at it. I mean has anyone seen the US version of Coupling? I mean the UK version of Coupling (imo) is one of the funniest comedies I've ever seen and the US practically made a carbon copy of it and it was AWFUL. I think they tried to do the same with the IT Crowd.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the UK version of the Apprentice is FAR superior.
ReplyDeleteWhat do I think?
ReplyDeleteI think people have been remaking filmed entertainment since before there were talkies. The fact that some of those remakes come from the UK is irrelevant. They come from everywhere.
I didnt kno Queer as Folk had a UK version
ReplyDeleteThe American version of The Office is 100x better then the British version, at least in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteTrue, I'm just saying the point of this post was to compare UK shows which the US directly copied and analyze which one was better. Pop Idol and X Factor are two different shows regardless of whether or not the show is basically set up and run the exact same way (with the exception of age limit of course).
ReplyDeleteThe only U.S version of a British tv show that i can honestly say is just as good is Shameless
ReplyDeleteI wait with baited breath for Prime Suspect, I'm surprised it took them this long to remake it, hopefully the do a better job than the did with Cracker
ReplyDeleteI don't know if Law and Order: UK would count.
