HBO RENEWS HIT SERIES TRUE BLOOD FOR FIFTH SEASON
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11, 2011 – HBO has renewed the hit show TRUE BLOOD for a 12-episode fifth season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Created by Alan Ball, the series will begin production of new episodes later this year in Los Angeles, with debut set for summer 2012.
“I am thrilled that TRUE BLOOD continues to enjoy a phenomenal reception from both subscribers and critics,” noted Lombardo. “Alan Ball and his gifted team have devised the greatest thrill ride on TV.”
“I remain amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm of our viewers,” says Ball. “I can’t imagine having more fun than this.”
Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, the Emmy®-nominated show takes place at a time when vampires have come out of the coffin, and follows the on-and-off romance between waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, and 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Series creator Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy®-winning HBO series “Six Feet Under”) is also an executive producer of the show, which is based on the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.
The 12-episode fourth season of TRUE BLOOD, which launched June 26, has inspired critical raves, with USA Today calling it “exuberantly entertaining,” as well as hailing the “superb crew of writers and actors,” while the Washington Post called the show “a rollicking good scream” and “addictive.”
TRUE BLOOD recently received four Emmy® nominations, including Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series (Alfre Woodard).
Season four credits: TRUE BLOOD was created by Alan Ball; based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris; executive producers, Alan Ball, Gregg Fienberg; co-executive producers, Brian Buckner, Mark Hudis, Nancy Oliver, Raelle Tucker, Alexander Woo; co-producer, Christina Jokanovich.

No surprise, but still good news.
ReplyDeleteat least it's official
ReplyDeleteAs long as they will change half of the storylines, for which I don't care a dime. The dichotomy between parts I like and which I despise is high.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way and I think you and I are in trouble next year.
ReplyDeleteI don't see how many of the book storylines can be adapted to TV since so much is different on TV. I think (and fear) after this season True Blood will be more Alan Ball than Charlaine Harris.
Considering her books completely fell apart by the 5th, I'm not sure why you'd fear that.
ReplyDeleteMy only issue with this show is Ball's stubborn desire to keep a dozen storylines running at once.
Ball is a double edged sword for me. I like some of his humor, but then he loses me when he goes over the top.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked the middle books in the series, maybe until book 6 or 7.. I forget. I haven't read any of them in a couple years....
I cannot agree stronger with you. Ball is running far too many storylines at once. I would rather he cut back half the characters with their own personal stories an make every other story twice as strong!
I keep watching the show but its lost some of its original lure for me, I'm always a bit frustrated with it like I think it could be a terrific show but its like they prefer to go for OTT and merely average with the occasional glimpse of amazing. Alas it isn't going to change so I will just have to lower my expectations and try to enjoy it for what it is and not what I want it to be.
ReplyDeletei really like this season so i'm glad there will be a fifth
ReplyDelete:D
ReplyDeleteGood.Very good.
ReplyDeleteI like the new season, it`s better than season 3. And Paquin and Skarsgård is more likable for me this season. And it`s at least interesting, so i will keep watching at least for alot more seasons. I like both the books and the series.
ReplyDeleteNothing shocking, but thanks.
ReplyDeleteNot really surprise, but good to heard.
ReplyDeleteI love this series and hate to think about the day when it has to be cancelled. But for now I continue to watch and wish for a 21 episode season!
ReplyDeleteYour totally right about the books. Your also right about Ball's having WAY too may storylines. Maybe he cut down them for the next season? We can always hope
ReplyDeleteam i the only one who read this and thought there is more to the show than sookie and bill's relationship especially when that's not even the best parts of the show
ReplyDeleteYep. That says it all.
ReplyDeleteNo surprise at all... in fact I thought it had already been renewed, so I was more surprised that this announcement has only just been made!
ReplyDeleteHa, I haven't even gotten to S4 and I agree about the storylines. Honestly, I wouldn't mind so many storylines if they weren't so damn disconnected. It may seem contrived to have a dozen plot threads working to some common purpose, but his characters go off on solo adventures that seem to serve no ultimate goal.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that ;)
