Supernatural - Ultimate Episode (Round 4-1) - Poll

Aug 18, 2011

After midnight tonight, there will only be 8 episodes left standing in our Ultimate Episode contest. Hard choices have been made and I don't expect them to get much easier in the final rounds. In good news for me, there are only 2 episodes left that I can't see as Ultimate Episode material. Making it into today's round are: The End, Lazarus Rising, Changing Channels, and In My Time of Dying. All worthy contenders and all of which I have voted for at some point. Happy voting!

  1. I'm going to postpone saying what my votes are in this match for a bit.  I want to see what other people are thinking first.  I'll just say that in one match I already know what I'm voting for but the other I'm wavering.  Have fun voting and remember that I am not responsible for how the episodes are matched.  You cannot sue me for any resulting migraines or other physical ailments.

  2. Lazarus Rising  - My anti-"what if" position is quite clear by now.

Changing Channels  - "Okay, um, I need a... penknife, some dental floss, a sewing needle, and a fifth of whiskey! Stat!"

  3.  In my time of dying: For old time's sake.  :)

  4. Seems I'm voting against type, I went for The End and In My Time of Dying.

  5. Lazarus Rising and Changing Channels, though those are not my personal favorites and I think there are way better episodes than these two lol.

  6. Lazarus Rising for me... It was a cracker!!

  7. Lazarus Rising and Changing Channels :)
I love all these eps though, so it hurts to vote against them :'( Especially In My Time of Dying, LOVE that one <33

  8. Lazarus Rising & Changing Channels for me, although the latter was a difficult choice!

    ReplyDelete
  9. In my time of dying, it was more touching and Lazarus cause we had Lucifer mindscrew (one of his bests!)

  10. I voted Lazarus Rising and In My Time of Dying.

  11. :) Me too
But my first reaction was '' Noooo!!! ;-; Don't put The End against Lazarus Rising....;-; '', before remembering that I totally lost it when Cas appeared and said he was an angel xD Cas: I'm an angel of the LordMe: NO *(&"/(?"*?/"&*( W-A-Y 0.o!!!!!!!!!!

xD It was the last time I believed a character description

  12. Reasons.  The End is s fantastic story, but Lazarus Rising was just better in some ways.  The meeting between Dean and Bobby and then Dean and Sam was beautiful.  We got to Castiel for the first time.  We found out that there is a problem with Sam.

The second one was difficult, I truly love Changing Channels, but In My Time of Dying is a favorite.  Dealing with the aftermath of the accident.  Dean is dying.  Sam is trying to save him.  John is John.   I got one more reason to dislike Yellow Eyes.  We also got to meet my favorite Reaper for the first time.

  14. Another coin flip and..... The End. Two Deans. But Lazarus Rising is probably my favorite premiere of all seasons. someone has to win.... And, Changing Channels. Too much fun in this one, One of the best eps that took a comedy concept and ended it as a serious drama. I do love it when they do that.

How in the world is In My Time Of Dying losing?

    ReplyDelete
  16. changing channels is one of my favorite all time shows!

    ReplyDelete
  17. None of these are even in my top 10... Changing Channels comes the closest...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I really enjoyed Lazarus Rising the first time through.... but mostly it was the excitement of the premiere and the relief after surviving my first Summer Hellatus. The only parts that I like to watch over and over again are 1) Dean spitting out the holy water, 2) the hug, 2) Sam exercising the demon, and 3) Castiel's line "I'm the one that gripped you tight and raised you from perdition." I am amazed that line still winds me up after god-stiel.... but it does.

I really can't watch Dean crawl out of the ground because it reminds me of Jim Carey coming out of the Rhino in that goofy Pet Detective movie.... It didn't hit me that way the first time I watched it because I was too excited. Now, I have to fast forward through that part or it ruins the feel of the rest of the episode.

But, I gotta admit, it is just about the best season opener we have had. I like In My Time of Dying and my #1 favorite opener, The Pilot better... But, I probably enjoyed LR more the first time I saw it than any other Supernatural season opener... It just isn't high on re-watchability for me... Yep, I invented a new word.

  19. I'm with you. All of my top favorite episodes have been eliminated. The only one left that even comes close is Changing Channels. And many of these are such Dean-centric episodes. Damn Dean-girls.... Give me some episodes where both brothers are equally important and there's lots of plot and emotion and hell some gore too to make it really great. In My Time of Dying is my favorite season opener but all the rest... eh. The best part about Lazarus Rising is Sam and Dean hugging in the motel and Ruby asking "So are you two like... together?" Also Cas's entrance at the end. Kind of epic there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lazarus Rising - what else did you expect from me?
    and
Changing Channels -  In My Time of Dying was great! Great like any other episde, but Changing Channels was just crazy! That's why it gets my vote this time.

I'm thining of rewatching the episodes before next round. Who's with me?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I had never thought of the similarities between Dean digging his way out of the grave and Ace Ventura crawling out of the Rhino, and it seriously made me bark out a laugh making my coworkers question my sanity :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm sorry, I don't want to be argumentative but I don't think it's fair to "blame" Dean-girls for these episodes getting closer to the finals. Maybe they are legitimately well written and well acted episodes. I vote according to this, not because of who the story is focused on. I like Changing Channels for the fun aspect but it will never be near my top because of the huge retrofit of the Trickster. I hate it when that happens.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Did I miss a 3-2?

    The End
    Changing Channels

    ReplyDelete
  24. an easy one and a hard one
although it was a great episode, i never felt that massive love for lazarus rising so the end was a sure pick. and that episode is great
the next one was pretty hard. i love both changing channels and in my time of dying. its hard to compare them coz they are both such different episodes
i ended up voting for changing channels because i love the trickster and the way they did those tv shows, especially csi miami, was amazing. although i do wish i could have voted for both and i will not be upset if either of them makes it through
i'm worried for the next half of round 4 coz i think that will be a killer

    ReplyDelete
  25. agreed, i don't even think about who the episodes about when i vote, i just pick which one i thought was the best (had the best lines, best action, best plot) regardless of if it was dean, sam cas or bobby centric

    ReplyDelete
  26. I voted Lazarus Rising and In My Time of Dying - two perfect season premieres.

Choosing In My Time of Dying was easy - I love Changing Channels, but it's not even my favourite comedy episode. And I voted IMTOD over Jus in Bello, so Changing Channels is really not a contenter here.

Lazarus Rising vs The End was hard. Both are magnificent. I even believe The End is better in terms of good television, it's just Lazarus Rising has a warm spot in my heart. And it introduced Pamela and Castiel. And if I really couldn't choose between the two, I'd vote for Lazarus Rising anyway, just because I prefer season 4 to season 5. hey, every reason is good, right? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. LR and IMToD

    ReplyDelete
  28. Lazarus Rising and In My time of Dying.

    ReplyDelete
  29. for me there are more scenes to watch over and over in LR! the ones you named are great, but I also love the iPod scene, the scene where Pamela's eyes get burnt out and the moment when Sam gives Dean his amulet back. And Castiel's entrance is great even beyond the line you mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lazarus Rising and Changing Channels! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Awwww geeze, this is getting harder and harder! I swear I looked at The End/Lazarus Rising one for like 5 minutes as I flitted back and forth between them! Too hard (I picked The End....but I don't know why...now I wish I picked Lazarus Rising....but if I did....I'd be wishing I picked The End...DAMN YOU). The other one was a little easier, I adore In My Time Of Dying...and not just because of Dean in a single layer, bare-feet and scrubs....honest.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lazarus Rising and Changing Channels for me

    ReplyDelete
  33. After much indecision,  I'll cast my vote for Lazarus Rising.
It's an episode that remains in my heart; there's joy, mystery, deception and diiscovery.
I loved The End too but having to make a choice............!

Here, too the choice is arduous but I'll go with In My Time Of Dying because it was such a powerful episode.
Changing Channels was a fun episode but IMTOD is just Supernatural in a nutshell

    ReplyDelete
  34. THE END.
The second poll... I just clicked one. Voted for Changing Channels I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Voted ''The End'' & ''In my time of dying''

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well still I think we all know Dean tends to be the favorite more often than not (a fact that if an spn character wins the character comp it will be him) and it just strikes me as somewhat odd that most of the episodes left are highly Dean centric and imho are not some of the better episodes. You may not be picking based on a character but I have a feeling the reason some of these episodes are still left is because they are favorites of Dean-fans. The End and Lazarus Rising are two such examples. Lots of Dean, not really great episodes overall.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'd say it's just a coincident, but I'm really curious what episodes you consider great then.

    ReplyDelete
  38. But a good episode is not made by one or two scenes. I loved Cas in The End but that was the only really good part of that episode. As for In My Time of Dying being Dean-centric I can't disagree because it very much is but it's a matter of I haven't got much left to work with as all my favorite episodes have been knocked out. And IMTD is a good episode and good opener for a season. It certainly isn't in my top favorite episodes by any means but it's probably the best most well written season opener. Regardless I didn't even vote for it because Changing Channels ranks much higher for me as a great episode. Probably within the top ten. Had the vote been between say LR and IMTD my vote would have easily gone for IMTD. But between LR and The End it's kind of a lesser of two evils and I voted The End only based on stoner Cas. Like I said it's a matter of there isn't much left for me to vote for that I actually really like it's all down to which had more scenes or moments that I enjoy, since I really don't love any of these episodes that are still in the running (the exception being CC).

    ReplyDelete
  39. you know, an episode being good or not good is really a matter of taste. For example, many people hate Family Remains, I love the episode. On the other hand, the majority of fans love Weekend at Bobby's, which for me is kind of blah. One really can't argue with people's tastes.
I was just trying to show you that people may be voting for those episodes for different reasons, not only for Dean. A single brilliant scene or a guest character can sometimes be the deciding factor.
Anywas, I still hope you have fun voting in these polls;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, the fact that Dean tends to be the favourite more often than not, as you say, is not condemnable. Besides, as Mia494 says, which episodes you consider better is a combination of taste, personal views, preferences, etc...  Personally, I love both The End and Lazarus Rising in their entirety, not just individual scenes and are very high on my favourites list but Changing Channels is somewhere in the middle because of the reason I mentioned above. There is nothing wrong with that and all opinions are valid. It just happens that the majority of the people who voted in these polls share a similar opinion (for whatever reasons) and it showed. Isn't that the point of a poll?

    ReplyDelete
  41. That was a great line in an episode that had quite a few.

    ReplyDelete
  42. And my disdain and utter avoidance of all things Jim Carey makes me a winner again.  I can continue to enjoy Dean rising from the grave and only compare it to Buffy.  I disagree  with some of what you said.  I find the majority of Lazarus Rising extremely re-watchable.  In fact, it's one that I have probably seen 100+ times and except for a few minutes here and there, I'm still not bored with it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I particularly like the scene with Bobby and Dean when we learn that Dean knows how to find Sam even when they have been apart for so long.  It was one of those things I hung on to when the brother relationship went kaboom.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't remember anything with Lucifer in Lazarus Rising.  He didn't rise until the end of that season and wasn't seen until season 5.  In My Time of Dying was definitely touching.  They did a pretty good job of balancing pathos in this one.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Right-o.  The story in Changing Channels was a little weak.  It's the dialogue that made it a memorable episode.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have a love/hate relationship with YED, but he was surely his most amusing in that episode.  I loved his snark.  "You really want an honest answer to that?"

    ReplyDelete
  47. This is how I voted too and much for the same reasons.  The End I voted for because minute for minute I liked it better - and yes it came down to minutes.  However, I adore Lazarus Rising too. It probably didn't hurt that at the time I voted The End was losing pretty substantially.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm sorry that the episodes you like best are not in the running still but I take exception to the fact that you are making it a brother thing.  We try to avoid brother wars here.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would again disagree.  I think that the episodes left are some of the better ones in terms of theme, humor, action, and writing.  What I am seeing most though are episodes winning that have a lot of elements in them instead of just one quality.  For instance, most episodes that focus almost solely on angst and despair have been eliminated.  Maybe the fact that you like the angst-filled episodes best is the more accurate reason why your favorites are gone.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I will be doing the same thing.  It's gotten to the point that I really do need to rewatch these to vote.  For most episodes, I love them and would vote for them in a heartbeat.  To have to choose is very hard.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yep sorry.  You could still tell us what you would have voted though.  :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I wavered between The End and Lazarus Rising too, mostly because they each have scenes I consider great.  I chose The End, but I would have chosen Lazarus Rising over several other episodes still in the running.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I second that.  I've always found it nutty that fans of this show are so easily ready to take umbrage with how or why someone enjoys this TV show.  There is no right or wrong way to like something and someone isn't wrong because they have a preference that differs from someone else.

(Unless, of course, someone's opinion differs from mine.  In that case, they're most likely wrong.  XD )

  54. final rounds. In good news for me, there are only 2 episodes left that I can't see as Ultimate Episode material. Making it into today's round are: The End, Lazarus Rising, Changing Channels, and In My Time of Dying. All worth

    ReplyDelete
  55. Not a bad idea.  I might take this voting strategy for round 5.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ok now that I finally got Spoiler to load (thanks NZ internet - have I mentioned how much you suck?)
    The End & Changing Channels.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The End - this was very close because I love both episodes. Reasons I voted for The End: two Deans, hippy Cas, Sam as Lucifer, Cas saying "This isn't funny Dean! The voice says I'm almost out of minutes!", Sam and Dean being back together at the end, and the final line "We make our own future, because we have no other choice."

Changing Channels - it's been so long since I saw In My Time Of Dying. If I was to watch it now it may have won my vote. The Trickster and all the TV spoofs is why I chose Changing Channels.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lazarus because there was one Dean. Changing Channels because Gabe trumps all.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Lazarus Rising lost? Nooo! My fave one is out :(

    ReplyDelete
  60. more than that, we didn't even know about Lucifer until Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester
