The last part of round 2 was the tightest match so far. Bad Day at Black Rock made it to round 3 over Point of No Return by a mere 3 votes. All Hell Breaks Loose, part 2 won over Mystery Spot by only 2 votes. Biggest shocker of the contest yet. I honestly thought Mystery Spot would win the whole thing, but it shows that every vote counts from here on out. Today we finish round 3 with the following episodes: The French Mistake, Bad Day at Black Rock, All Hell Breaks Loose - part 1, What is and What Should Never Be, All Hell Breaks Loose - part 2, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Abandon All Hope, and Born Under a Bad Sign.

Today is 3/4 easy for me today, mostly because these contain some of my all-time favorite episodes against others I feel are merely great.
ReplyDeleteBad Day at Black Rock - It's the battle of the comedies and in my opinion, BDaBR is vastly superior. Not to knowck The French Mistake because it's a meta I voted for...twice. That's far more than any other meta. Still the only comedy left that can beat BDaBR for me is Changing Channels. Easy vote.
what is and What Should Never Be - No question, hesitation, or even bad feelings about this one. If it had been part 2 I might have felt a tiny bit bad.
Tough choice this match: I love both episodes and they are both high on my favorites list. AHBL2 may be my favorite finale although it is a toss-up with Devil's Trap. AVSPNC is a perfect microcosm of all things SPN. However, since I'm still going on the 30 seconds or less decision plan, my vote goes to AHBL2.
Abandon All Hope - Shout out to Ellen and Jo, two people I liked better in death and after. This one is full of great scenes.

- All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 (Again, I'm so sorry to 'A Very SPN Christmas'.. this is pure torture!)
- Abandon All Hope (Great, tragic deaths.. but still, LOVED BUaBS.. Sam's evil laugh - chills every time)
I'm surprised The French Mistake is actually winning. I would have predicted BDaBR by at least 5%.

ReplyDeleteBwah! I would say that it had an ending that made sense. In French Mistake, Cas is presumably powerful, he says he's powerful with the heaven weapons, and yet he let's Raphael go. The same Raphael that he has been blustering about all year and whom he is in a civil war with. That will never make sense to me.
ReplyDeletePlus in BDaBR, the Winchesters are clever (tossing the rabbit's foot so Bella had to burn it) and fun. In French Mistake they are heaven's pawns. That plot line has gotten old.

It has it's moments, but Bela winning soured it for me.What Is and What Should Never Be. Very few scenes are as memorable for me as Dean's monologue at John's grave. Sorry All Hell Breaks Loose, Pt. 1. Like Dahne said, if it had been pt. 2, I may have hesitated for a moment before pushing the little button.All Hell Breaks Loose, Pt. 2. Altho I love the Carrigans (and the fingernail pull alone still makes me cringe) Dean's deal set so much of the mythology in motion. Can't vote against that.Born Under a Bad Sign. I feel bad for voting against Ellen and Jo's moment (which was so well played by both actresses) but Sam and Dean winning one against Meg was so sweet. Even thru everything, Dean's belief in his brother wouldn't die. I'm not sure I'm gonna make it when these get even harder. :(

Regardless of how awesome a very supernatural christmas is, it cannot compare in any way to the epicness of all hell breaks loose 2. That was one hell of a finale
Abandon all hope was just brilliant. I like born under a bad sign but nowhere near as much as it would need to get my vote over abandon all hope.
It feels funny, repeating why I love each episode in each round. By now I've just resorted to using enthusiastic adjectives rather than actually say what part of the episodes I like
The other 2 are very hard decisions
Actually, no. Bad day at black rock was amazing and extremely funny but I don't think even "I'm batman" can compare to the french mistake. So that wasn't too hard
But the last one, all hell breaks loose 1 or what is and what should never be. I cannot decide. In fact, I don't think I actually can. I cannot think of any reasons why one is better than the other. This is too hard. I'm just gonna vote for whoever is losing at the moment and give them some support

ReplyDeleteA great fun episode, I loved the "Sammy regressed to four-year old" that Jared Padalecki interpreted so well!
Then I really liked Bela. I thought she was a great foil for Dean, as intelligent and snarky as he was, she kept him on his toes, and on the plus side she was a human and so had to get by on her wits just like the boys!
We get to see Gordon again too.
With much indecision my vote goes to What is and What Should Never Be.
Although nothing can beat the heartbreak of Sam's death in Dean's arms, WIAWSNB too, is the story of a death, the death of Dean's dream world where he so wanted to remain, not just for himself but for Sammy and thus is just as sad.
This is really hard.
I would like to give 50% to each.
For me AHBL 2 is the best season finale of all but A Very Supernatural Christmas tugs on my heart strings.
As they say here " Al cuore non si comanda" ( you can't give you heart orders! ) so AVSC gets it.
It's strange that these two episodes made it through when better ones, in my opinion, have been eliminated, but that's the luck of the draw I suppose.
I'll go with Abandon all Hope to honour Ellen and Jo's sacrifice

ReplyDeleteBad Day at Black Rock - I love The French Mistake, but BDaBR wins for me. You can't go past moments like "I lost my shoe..." and "I'm Batman" Such an awesome episode from start to finish.
ReplyDeleteWhat Is and What Should Never Be - I struggled with this poll but decided on WIAWSNB. Mary being alive, Dean mowing the lawn (so adorable!), Sam being with Jess - it was great to see what their "normal" life could have been, and heartbreaking to know that Dean and Sam would not have a close relationship. And of course, Dean's choice to return to reality was so courageous and revealed so much about the strength of his character.
A Very Supernatural Christmas - this was the toughest choice for me this round. I went for this one though because I loved the two Pagan Gods. The beginning was awesome with the little boy watching as "Santa" shoved his father up the chimney (and then ate a biscuit!). Seeing the flashbacks to the Christmas when Sam discovered that their father was a hunter, and us finding out the origin of Dean's amulet really tugged at the heartstrings. The confrontation with the Gods is one of my favourite scenes from any episode as it gave us this great line "You fudgin' touch me again, I'll fudgin' kill you!" And finally, the brothers sharing Dean's last Christmas.
Abandon All Hope - This episode introduced us to Crowley, who is quite possibly my favourite demon. It also had the sad and heroic deaths of Ellen and Jo. And Dean kissing Jo goodbye was also so heartbreaking.
I completely agree with your comment about Bad Day at Black Rock and the other comedy episodes.

The Christmas episode, for me, was more enjoyable because it was lighter. but so much happens in AHBL pt. 2 that I had to vote for it. As far as Born Under A Bad Sign vs Abandon All Hope goes, I love both episodes for their intensity, but I went with Born Under A Bad Sign b/c (1) demon possessed Sam was kinds hot and (2) I wasn't bawling my eyes out b/c awesome characters died

Bad Day at Black Rock - it's definitely a matchup of the two very best comedy episodes on the show. They are the only ones that make me laugh sincerely no matter how many times I see them. The French Mistake is just as wonderful as a meta episode could be. They did a great job with it and gotta love all of them for being able to make fun of themselves like this. However, it's still somehow inferior to BDABR. I can't even explain why. BDABR is just classic and the one liners are some of the best. In the end, I couldn't vote against Batman.
What Is and What Should Never Be - I've praised it many times already. Pure awesomness. Some great comedy moments & heartbreaking moments and the coolest monster ever.
All Hell Breaks Loose 2 - by far the better one here. Besides, AVSC eliminated On the Head of a Pin and that I cannot forgive :P
Abandon All Hope - can't believe I'm voting for it AGAIN. I don't even like it that much. I must say the episode was really lucky in the bracket. Born Under a Bad Sign is not a very strong opponent.
Dean kissing Jo goodbye made me happy that the girl was gonna die finally :P I hated that "relationship" from the very beginning.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Bela. I actually liked how she was that badass girl screwing with the boys (usually they just have to save girls) and that she wasn't a monster but a human, like them. I really don't know where all the hate towards her comes from.

ReplyDeleteOkay, she didn't have to be in every episode but turning up now and then to annoy the boys sort of lightened the atmosphere a little bit.
I liked that friend/enemy kind of relationship she had with them and there was also a good chemistry between the three of them.
I didn't realize that she was so hated. I really only post here and up 'till now I haven't been aware of that

ReplyDeleteCount me pro-Bela too. I think the reason people hate her is because she made the Winchesters look like idiots over and over again. If the writers had toned that down so it was more balanced then people probably would have really enjoyed her character. I put it on the side of bad writing - something I rarely do with Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteThat whole scene with the pagan gods in the kitchen was brilliant. Great lines, great characters, great acting. Loved the fudge line but I also loved "Oh Sweet Peter on a popsicle stick." and the guy who sold the wreaths "Well aren't you a fussy one."
ReplyDeleteI was anti-Jo and Dean as a relationship too but even I thought the death scene was touching. When he kissed her forehead, I wasn't seeing a romantic relationship.
ReplyDeleteI would agree that Abandon All Hope and Born Under a Bad Sign are inferior to the ones that are left. I doubt that either can beat AHBL2 or A Very SPN Christmas. They are in a very fortunate section of teh bracket for sure.

ReplyDeleteDean did get his own back with the rabbit's foot and Sam saved her bacon in Red Sky In The Morning by thinking up the idea of making the two ghostly brothers meet, then they outwitted her in Time Is On My Side too.
I think that if she had continued on the show the boys would soon have learned to block her little schemes.
I think it's because the episode is still pretty fresh in people's memory. It's a great episode, but there definitely are better ones left in these polls.
