The last of the round one winners join the vote today: Mystery Spot, All Hell Breaks Loose - part 2, A Very Supernatural Christmas, On the Head of a Pin, The Man Who Would Be King, Abandon All Hope, Appointment in Samarra, and Born Under a Bad Sign. I think this round will be harder for most people than yesterday's. So let's get on with the vote. Don't forget that comments are that last stick of gum you didn't know you had.

  1. oday is easy to pick, hard to vote against.  While I have clear favorites in almost every one of these matches, it will be a bit sad to lose good episodes today.  On the plus side, there are only 10 episodes left that I really don't want to win the title of Ultimate Episode and it looks like at least 4 of those will be knocked off this round.  Life is good.

My vote:  French Mistake, Bad Day at Black Rock, Weekend at Bobby's, What is and What Should Never Be (of course), All Hell Breaks Loose - part 2, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Abandon All Hope, and Appointment in Samarra.

Easiest votes:  French Mistake, What is and What Should Never Be, Abandon All Hope

  2. Wow. That was rough in spots. Easy in others:
All I got to say is "...I lost my shoe."

    ReplyDelete
  3. Bwah!  One of the greatest Sam lines ever.  Did you make the sad Sam face when you voted?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I certainly did.

I did especially when I had to vote between On the Head of a Pin and A Very Supernatural Christmas.

    That was horrid.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hardest for me was Mystery Spot vs AHBL2.  I ended up voting for AHBL2 because Mystery Spot won't need my vote to win by a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That was the hardest one for me too! D:
    I voted for AHBL2 too though.. :)

  7. There were a couple I could have gone either way on.  I chose The French Mistake, Bad Day at Black Rock, Weekend at Bobby's, What is and What Should Never Be, All Hell Breaks Loose Part !!, On the Head of a Pin (This was almost an eeny meeny miney moe, seriously, I love both episodes0,  The Man Who Would Be King, and Appointment in Samarra

  8. Ok here goes:
The French Mistake. Even though the scene in DSotM has Dean & young Sam & the fireworks & Knockin' on Heaven's Door (which always chokes me up)Bad Day at Black Rock, but only by a whisker, because PoNR has Dean stabbing Zach in the throat.Weekend at Bobby's, again by a whisker (probably one of Bobby's :P )Mommy Dearest, even though I love WIAWSNB, because it was a great episode and WIAWSNB will win this time anyway.AHBL2 because of Dean's monologue and Bobby's fury at Dean's deal. So again only by one of Bobby's whiskers, because I love Mystery Spot. And how dare Fate put On the Head of a Pin against AVSC? That is just outright cruelty. The snooty cow deserves to go to purgatory for that. I haven't voted there yet.Abandon All Hope was easy because I loathed TMWWBK (I was looking at screencaps recently and noticed 95% of them were 'talking heads' - which shouldn't have surprised me so much)Appointment In Samarra over BUaBS. Both were great, but Death trumps demonMeg-possessed-Sammy.I'll be back when I've decided about On the Head of a Pin/AVSC

    ReplyDelete
  9. I predict that WiaWSNB will have a hard time of it in this round and then be booted next round.  That sound you hear will be me weeping in my Cheerios.  :-P  The screen caps don't surprise me at all.

  10. seriously tough decisions!

  11. Oh why must I choose between Abandon All Hope and The Man Who Would Be King? That's torture! I love both episodes so much!! Team Free Will-family ep vs. the long-awaited Cas-ep....not fair...both episodes are in my top ten for fav SPN overall ep!

Unfortunately, tiny bit of personal love for TMWWBK won over Abandon All Hope...

    ReplyDelete
  12. TFM>DSOTM
    BDABR>PONR
    AHBL 1>WAB
Mommy Dearest>WIAWSNB (I know, I'm definitely bucking the trend here, but I've never loved WIAWSNB as much as most SPN fans)
Mystery Spot> AHBL 2  (toughest choice because I love both but I love MS more)
    AVSC>OTHOAP
AAH>TMWWBK (I love AAH - Crowley! Lucifer! Sad Ellen/Jo death scene and I intensely dislike TMWWBK)
BUABS>AIS (BUABS is among my favorite episode)

This round was easier for me because I only had one hard choice.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Can someone promise me this is going to get easier.  :-D

    Let's see

Dark Side of the Moon  -
Bad Day At Black Rock - It was speaking to me this time. :-)
    Weekend At Bobby's  -
What is and should never be  - an easy one for me
All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 2
A very supernatural christmas -  i liked more of this ep than head of  a pin. (if I'm
           forced to compare them :-)
Born under a bad sign   - enie menie mine mo

  14. Voted:

    Dark side of the Moon

    Point of no Return

All Hell Breaks Loose pt 1

What is and What should never be

All Hell Breaks Loose pt 2

On the Head of a Pin

    Abandon All Hope

    Appointment in Samarra

    - It definetly got a lot tougher this time…

  15. I'm actually a little surprised our votes line up.  Kewl.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lots of difficult choices today
    .
I am forced to go with Dark Side of The Moon, for when I do eventually see French Mistake, I'm nearly certain that I won't like it.

Bad Day at Black Rock and Point of No Return
-- impossible for me to pick,  but having to cast a vote I'll go with PONR, but only to celebrate it's 100th episode status!

AHBL part 1--I have to give my vote to part one of a perfect season finale.

    W is and WSNB.
In my mind this has now become part of that small pool of five or six episodes  which define a series.
It's the first and only time ( I believe ) that we see the both boys in a " normal"  existance, with a home, job and family, and for Dean it's all the more poignant because he can compare it to their former horror-filled reality.

M Spot and AHBL part 2
Another impossible choice,  but I'm going to give it to Mystery Spot this time, "just 'cause."

    No head versus heart here.
Straight in with A Very Supernatural Christmas, and this time it gets my vote  for Sam gazing at the reindeer and for the absolutely depressing Santa's World!
I could never vote for OTHOAP as I hate to see anyone tortured, even the bad guys.

    Abandon All Hope.
Jo and Ellen's heroic death can't be forgotten.
I'm a little against them bringing Jo back,  unless it's in a flash back or dream etc., because to me it would cheapen the sacrifice she made in this episode.

Born Under A Bad Sign-- A little evil Sammy is nice to have now and then, and Dean's eternal loyalty to hi brother is heart-breaking.

  17. Some tougher ones there today, but I went for The French Mistake, Point of No Return, Weekend at Bobby's, What Is and What Should Never Be, All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Abandon All Hope and Appointment in Samarra. Hardest choices were voting against Dark Side of the Moon, On the Head of a Pin and Mystery Spot, all of which are among my favourite episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Except for a few, Today's are so hard I can't even vote yet!!!
Easy ones were appointment in samarra, the French mistake and what is and what should never be although it pained me greatly not to vote for their opponents
I always thought voting mystery spot would always be easy but today surprised me. All he'll breaks loose 2 is probably the only episode that I love just as much. My number 1 and number 2 episodes. I have to vote mystery spot but it was hard for me to click that button
Now come the 3 that I cannot decide no matter how many times I look at them
I always said that I love comedy over drama but point of no return is just amazing. I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode and the only time I've ever been happier than when sldean killed Zachariah was when dean killed ruby. But on the other hand we have "I lost my shoe" and "I'm batman", probably my two fave lines ever
I think I'm gonna have to go with BDABR on this one
Next comes weekend at Bobbys vs AHBL1. Regardless of how awesome both Bobby and that episode was, I'm gonna have to go with the latter. The YED plans being revealed and Andy returning and the shock of SAMs death made this episode really awesome
Finally, my toughest decision. Man who would be king or abandon all hope. Both pretty angel heavy episodes. Both with epic emotional side stories of Sams soul and Ellen and Jo dying. I love both of them. Talking through the other 2 helped me buy I really can't decide on this one. I'll come back and vote later
    Darn you impossible decisions!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. That one was so hard. I went with mystery spot because I think the only time I could ever vote against it would be in a worst episode poll (hey, let's do one of those next?)
But I wish with all my heart I could have voted for AHBL2 because it is my next favourite episode
I was actually surprised to see mystery spot losing this round

    ReplyDelete
  20. Actually, today's polls are still pretty easy for me, except one.
    My votes:

The French Mistake - this poll is like one of the funniest episodes ever vs one of the most depressing ones and I'd take meta over the complete lost of hope anytime

Bad Day at Black Rock - together with TFM, the best comedy episode in the entire series, definitely containing some of the best one-liners.

All Hell Breaks Loose 1 - lots of action vs complete lack of action, no brainer for me

What Is and What Should Never Be - I love Mommy Dearest, but come on, it's WIAWSNB. There aren't many better episodes, if any.

On the Head of a Pin - can't believe it's loosing to AVSC. I loved the flashbacks and the amulet's backstory, but aside from that, there wasn't much in that episode. OTHOAP, on the other hand... one of my favourite episodes ever. LOVE the Dean vs Alastair torturing contest, we had the reveal that Dean broke the first seal and the episode was in general full of tension. And it was a great step forward for the Dean/Cas friendship, which I loved.

The Man Who Would Be King - Cas vs Jo and the choice is obvious ;P

Appointment in Samarra - I truly enjoyed it, it had Balthazar and Tessa and I guess I'm just not as much in love with BUABS as most people

The very hard choice for me is between Mystery Spot and All Hell Breaks Loose 2. Both are amazing, each one for its own reasons and totally different from each other. Gonna need a while to choose.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I saw the comment of today's polls will be hard, and  then the first two polls and I thought 'Lies, this will be easy' - how wrong I was.

French Mistake and Bad Day at Black Rock were the obvious ones for me. From then it was far trickier.

    Ended up going with:

All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1 by the narrowest of margins just because of what it contributed to the mytharc and it was simply a fantastic first-parter.

To even things up, I voted against the second part of the finale and went with Mystery Spot.

On the Head of a Pin is one of my favourite episodes so I had to go with that.

Abandon all Hope because I found that The Man Who Would be King was slightly inferior on rewatch.

Appointment in Samarra as one of my favourite S6 episodes won in that matchup, which left What Is and What Should Never Be to triumph over another of my favourite S6 eps.

  23. well, tonight (a couple of hours ago) australia finally aired the season 6 finale of supernatural
i've misse dmost of the season on tv but i decided to watch the finale
just watching it again made me realise how awesome it was and in the heat of the moment (god, i love mystery spot), i went and voted for the man who knew too much
even though i do love abandon all hope just as much. i ahd to pick one and this one just happened to be on tv tonight

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sigh

Dark Side of the Moon - I loved The French Mistake but Dark Side is an episode I think about constantly. It's in my head and I can't get rid of it. Just for that, my vote goes to Dark Side.
Point of No Return - I'm sory Sammy! I'll find a new shoe for you!
All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1
What is and What Should Never Be
    Not voting
On the Head of a Pin - from what it looks I'll have to say goodbye to it : (
    Abandon All Hope
Born Under a Bad Sign - I love rewatching it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. one of the hardest for me were the french mistake and dark side of the moon, due to the sheer comic genious and the brilliant aspect of heaven

    ReplyDelete
  26. I went with:
    The French Mistake
    Bad Day At Black Rock
    Weekend At Bobby's
What Is and What Should Never Be
    Mystery Spot
    A Very Supernatural Christmas
The Man Who Would Be King
    Born Under A Bad Sign

  27. Most of my favorite episodes are getting knocked out in these rounds. Last round I lost MATEOTB and MBV now it looks like I'll lose Dark Side of the Moon and On the Head of A Pin. -_- I like the dark episodes best and everyone else keeps knocking them out. A Very Supernatural Christmas was cute to watch and kind of heartbreaking but On the Head of A Pin was a lynch pin for season four's plot. We found out Dean broke the first seal, that Sam was drinking demon blood to increase his powers, and that angels were not just dicks but in some cases just as bad as demons with their own agendas. Not to mention that Alistair was an awesome bad guy.

I wanted to love the French mistake but it didn't incorporate the plot the way Changing Channels did so it felt pointless. Whereas Dark Side of the Moon was yet another important episode with a side of lots of angst. Though I was pretty mad at Sam in the episode for what his heaven was compared to Dean's Dean's wasn't exactly as inclusive of Sam either. It was like all their earthly negativity towards each other was being reflected in their heaven. And we find that they share a heaven as soul mates via Ash so they can't always be at each other's throats the way they were in this episode. It was just a reflection of everything going on. Unfortunately we lost the amulet in this episode but everyone was at a particularly low point not just the Winchester's but Cas too.

My other choices are bad Day At Black Rock, All hell Breaks Loose part 1, Mommy dearest, AHBL part 2, Abandon All Hope, and Appointment in Samarra (though that one was a hard toss up with BUABS).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ok, eventually I decided to go with AHBL 2, because it pretty much opened the storyline for the next 3 seasons. It also had the boys hug, an emotional Dean/Bobby scene, a flash of Samuel Colt's genius, all hell literally breaking loose and the death of the main antagonist of the first 2 seasons.
Mystery Spot is pure brilliance and voting against it is the hardest thing I've had to do since the beginning of this contest. It's really too bad two of such amazing episodes go against each other. I'd vote for both over all episodes in the other polls with the exception of Bad Day at Black Rock, What Is and What Should Never Be and On the Head of a Pin.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I totally agree about OTHOAP vs AVSC. Yes, the Christmas episode was cute and it's always great to see young Sam and Dean, but come on! On the Head of a Pin was brilliant! Ok, maybe there was that 10-minute long angel sequence, but how can you just not vote for the awesomness of Alastair (for me he's probably the scariest villain ever), tortured-torturing Dean, the big angel/demon/Sam-on-demon-blood fight, the big reveal and having Uriel stabbed in the throat?!

    ReplyDelete
  30. sorry to break it to you, but today's poll is Abandon All Hope vs The Man Who Would Be King, not The Man Who Knew Too Much, meaning you voted for the Cas centric episode, not the season 6 finale...

    ReplyDelete
  31. what did you end up voting for?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ha!  I am a lot surprised by how some of the voting is going.  Something's i expected to win hands-down are either losing or very close.  If I were doing a bracket contest, I would now be losing.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mystery Spot losing right now is the biggest shock of the contest so far for me.  If I had bet on it, I would have said Mystery Spot would win the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You have got to be kidding! Making us choose between MS and AHBL2 is just cruel. They are both in my top 3 eps ever probably.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think I can promise it will get harder over all.  Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well it would have a chance of winning overall if it hadn't been put up against probably the only ep that could beat it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Carrigans (especially Madge) are the reason why A Very SPN Christmas gets my vote but that horrible holiday town made me laugh and cringe as well.  I also agree that I prefer Jo to stay dead and not on screen.  The Harvelle death scene was the most poignant death of all.  Even I was touched by them and I was not a huge fan of the Harvelles for most of their screen time.  It always lessens the story for me when dead people return but if they invalidate this death scene it will do the series a great disservice.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Bad Day at Black Rock had some really classic lines in it.  I wouldn't be upset if it won the whole thing, especially if Mystery Spot goes down in this round.  Can't believe I even typed that sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I chose AVSPNC in large part because I find OtHoaP almost as depressing as DSotM.  The end of that episode may be the most depressing moments of the entire series.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with you about the Carrigans.
They were great, but as I had already given other reasons in previous polls, I thought I would give the reindeer and Santa their moment in the limelight!

Jo and Ellen died a particular death and to bring back either one with a snap of the fingers would do, as you say, a great disservice to the show.

That is the only thing that I would criticise about SPN, the tendency to bring back dead people.
There's no need, as I'm sure there are plenty of new faces who would like to guest star on the show and maybe give us different and appealing characters.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't find On the Head of a Pin depressing at all. Sad, definitely, even heartbreaking, but not depressing.
When I say season 5 was depressing, most of all I mean the boys' situation was getting more and more hopeless. Every single chance or new idea came and went away, leaving everything dark and so depressing you could only sit down and cry. The hopelessness is what bugs me the most.
I don't feel that way about OTHOAP. There is still hope in that episode, there still seems to be a solution for Dean to fix what he's done wrong and for Apocalypse to be stopped, even if at that moment he feels otherwise. We still had the right to believe the angels were there to help the boys stop Lucifer from rising. So yeah, the episode was heartbreaking, but depressing is a term for season 5 IMO. But to each their own, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love every episode! It's hard to choose!

    ReplyDelete
  43. all the votes were fairly close wxcept for "Mommy Dearest" and "What Is and What Should Never Be". There was a large difference there. Kinda surprising, but with the exception of "French Mistake" no season 6 ep has been favored, Has it?

    ReplyDelete
  44. oohhhh come on!!!! Mystery Spot and AHBL2!!!! It's by far the most difficult choice...

    ReplyDelete
  45. The French Mistake, Bad Day At Black Rock, Weekend At Bobby's, Mommy Dearest, All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2, On The Head Of A Pin, Abandon All Hope, Appointment In Samarra

    ReplyDelete
  46. Alright, I'm a glutton for punishment.  Let's do this...

The French Mistake  - Slightly better than Dark Side.  It was great to see Ash again though.

Bad Day At Black Rock  - I'll take a Bella episode over a Zachariah episode any day.

Weekend At Bobby's  - No contest.  The two-part AHBL finale was not one of SPN's best.

On The Head of a Pin  - Again, no contest.  This is dark, gritty, no holds barred drama.

Mommy Dearest  - It's not a "what if" so it wins by default.

Mystery Spot  - Not a big fan of either.  I picked this one in the heat of the moment.  (Sorry.)

Abandon All Hope  - A gut wrenching swan song for the Harvelle's and some Meg for good measure.

Appointment In Samarra  - It may be depressing as hell but it's a solid episode.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This is getting harder:
Dark Side of the Moon. (Even if it loses, it's still my fav of all.)
    Point of No Return
    WeekEnd at Bobby's
What is and What Should Never Be
Mystery Spot (coin flip wins over All Hell Pt. 2)
A Very SPN Christmas (coin flip 2 over On the Head of a Pin)
    Abandon All Hope
    Born Under a Bad Sign

    Whew. That kinda hurt. :(

    ReplyDelete
  48. Absolutely agree.  If they would stop killing characters off, they wouldn't need to spend so much energy finding ways to resurrect them or bring their ghosts back.  Give us some great secondary characters this season and then let them live until through the 8th.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree that Dark Side of the Moon was more hopeless (as was season 5 in general) but for me depressing and hopeless aren't the same thing.  To see Dean's utter despair at the end was just too hard to take.  I prefer when the episode ends for the main characters not to be suicidal.  Or make me feel that way too.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ha!  It only gets harder from here.  Well, unless all the ones you pick get booted and then I guess it gets easier.

    ReplyDelete
  51. "I'm sory Sammy! I'll find a new shoe for you!"  BWAH!!!

Thanks.  I needed that laugh after a 13+ hour day.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Got to say that I did a happy dance when MatEotB was defeated.  It was one of my least favorite episodes that made it to round 2.  For me the reason why I voted for A Very SPN Christmas is because it is the perfect Supernatural episode balance.  I frequently recommend it to people who are going to give SPN a 1-episode try.  It is easily accessible to non-fans but ties in all the humor, brotherly love, gore, horror, and drama that make Spn SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree it was cruel.  Darn NCAA basketball bracket with it's sucky number placement.  I wanted them both in the semifinals.

    ReplyDelete
  54. If Weekend at Bobby's, The Man Who Would Be King, Mommy Dearest, and Appointment in Samarra all go down in this round, then yes, French Mistake will be the only season 6 episode still standing.  It will be a disastrous round for season 6.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Keep that coin handy.  Things are about to get very interesting in round 3.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I can't agree that it's a good one to tell people to watch for a one episode stab at spn. First off it's x-mas themed. Come on! You don't tell a non-fan to watch a episode that is holiday themed in a none holiday based show. Nextly it's not all that accessible to a non-fan in that all the brotherly moments and angst is going to fly right over their heads. Why is Dean going on about celebrating christmas and it being his last year? A non-fan might think it's cause he's got a terminal illness or something. Not the impression I'd want to give someone if I wanted them hooked on the show. And it's a one off episode. Come on! MOTW eps are not my greatest idea of what SPN are all about past the first season or two. MOTW eps became more like filler after a time, and not always very good filler, than the norm for SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  57. i'd be ahppy if bad day at black rock won too, its an awesome episode
i still can't believe mystery spot might not make it, even against all hell breaks loose 2, it thought for sure that was one thing that would never happen, especially so early

    ReplyDelete
  58. omg, lol. that's akward. thats ok coz i also loved man who would be king so i didn't vote for anything i don't love. it was actually an amazing episode

    ReplyDelete
  59. A non-fan should never start with a mytharc episode unless it's the first one.  They get bogged down in what they don't understand and then usually think the show's too complicated to bother with.  That's why a good MotW story is always better if people are only willing to give a show one trial episode.  They can always go back and discover the mythology once they are hooked on the show.

The best thing about AVSPNC is that although it does have some mytharc in it (Dean going to hell), it is not necessary to understand it to understand the characters.  I think the fact that Dean will only have one Christmas left is extremely relatable.  It doesn't matter why.  Anyone can understand the brother moments simply because it is like someone dying of a fatal disease.  Anyone who has ever known anyone dying of a prolonged disease understands both brother's point-of-view.  The emotion between the brothers is natural, poignant, and tight.  That's the impression I want to leave with people in a first episode.  It doesn't matter that Dean is going to hell as long as people understand that the Winchesters are unusually close as a family and that they have been that way since childhood.  It's the brother relationship that generally hooks people and A Very Supernatural Christmas has that in spades.
