Supernatural - Favorite 19th Episode - Poll

1 Aug 2011

Results from the 17th episode are in and My Heart Will Go On is the winner with 106 votes and 32% of the vote. In second came Heart with 75 votes at 23%. Currently, Point of No Return is winning the 18th episode poll. Today we have a selection that automatically falls in a ranking for me. No questions and no hesitations. I love when that happens. My guess is that Mommy Dearest has a great shot of winning here. Thanks to everyone who has been voting and commenting. I appreciate it. However, I would like to encourage people to use capitals and punctuation. I don't mean to sound witchy but it is sometimes hard to understand what people are saying without them. I would hate to miss a chance at good conversation for the lack of a capital.

Also, this part of the poll is almost over so thank you for helping us pass the hellatus time. We're over halfway there! Yippee! I'm taking suggestions on how you would like to pass the rest of hellatus when this part of the poll is over. My plan is to take the winners of these polls and doing one week of massive voting, but then I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what you want to see in the comments. Thanks! Let's get to today's poll:

Provenance - Sarah Blake is the one-shot PiP I most want to see back on Supernatural. I loved the connection between Sam and her and how Dean supported it. "Marry that girl." Mostly though, she was brave in a bad situation and had the brains to solve the ghost mystery. Her conviction that she needed to fix it because she unwittingly helped get that couple killed was Winchester all the way. However, the reason it gets my vote is because this episode really scared me. That homicidal ghost girl was terrifying with the razor blade and doll. I thought this was well done all the way around.

Folsom Prison Blues - I loved Deacon (and the actor who played him) and if this episode weren't in this particular round it might have gotten a vote from me. The idea that the Winchesters would go to prison to pay back a debt their father owed amazed me. The fact that they solved the ghost story within prison had me cheering. Remember back when the Winchesters won...a lot. I know it's been awhile but this episode highlighted Winchester ingenuity and I miss that. Plus we had Tiny. "Doughnuts are not love."

Jump the Shark - My loathing of the Adam Winchester addition puts this episode dead last for me. The brothers arguing over Adam and what kind of life he should have was just another round in the brother fracture. Ghouls are disgusting. Yep, that about covers the episode for me. While it did not Jump the Shark like titled, it had those sharks swimming uncomfortably close. I'm glad he ended up dead and the show could continue shark-free.

Hammer of the Gods - The positives outweighed the negatives in this episode but not by as big a margin as I hoped. Obviously the return of Gabriel was the biggest win. I loved that he was in a third disguise and had a thing for Kali. The porn mustache revelation was fantastic, but Gabe's death not so much. I also thought the gods portrayal was weak. They did god meetings much better on Stargate SG-1. Having Lucifer kill off so many was also a downside and a waste of good potential characters.

Mommy Dearest - I enjoyed this episode as I think a lot of people did. It had the foursome working together, amped up the Eve story line, and brought back Samantha Smith. All good things. It also had the reveal that Cas was working with Crowley, which didn't come as a shock, and Crowley himself, which did. As far as advancing the mytharc, this one was a doozy. It's biggest drawback was killing off Eve, who never got the story she deserved, although I have to say the return of Clever Dean was welcome.

  1. Like I mentioned, today's poll is easy for me with nothing even close to a tie.

    1.  Provenance
    2.  Mommy Dearest
    3.  Folsom Prison Blues
    4.  Hammer of the Gods
    5.  Jump the Shark

Thanks to everyone for commenting and I appreciate your use of capitals and punctuation to make it easier to converse.  I love the conversations we have been having so far.  It makes hellatus go by faster.

  2. Provenence was perhaps my favourite Season 1 episode... gutted to hear she never returns :(

  3. Haha... Thanks for taking the time to do the posts. I know from the Competitions how long it takes to put these things together on a daily basis :P

  4. Sorry to spoil it for you.  I keep hoping something will lead them back to her part of New York.  In my version of Supernatural, she's dumped the antique world and is training as a hunter.  She eventually meets up with the Winchesters again to work a case.  But that's just my world...and a good portion of fan fic.  :-)

  5. Wow! So far, Jump The Shark hasn't received ANY votes! Not surprising tho... it was really up against some heavy competition!

  6. These are nothing like the scope of the competitions you run but thanks.  I'm having fun and quite honestly there isn't a lot of grey area when doing episode polls so we haven't had the issues of what exactly constitutes a one-shot character or whether the Impala is a character or an object like the midseason polls.  It's been a lot smoother this summer. :-)

Not to pressure you, but any ballpark idea of when the Character Cup is going to begin?  I'd like to run Supernatural polls up to about that time and it'll make planning easier.

  7. Ha!  The contest just started 15 minutes ago.  Don't worry.  It will get at least a couple votes.  After all, Bugs got a vote and it is almost universally disliked in the Supernatural world.  By the way, welcome and thanks for posting.

  8. Nomination stage will be starting this weekend barring any setbacks :)

  9. Fabulous!  That should give us time to complete the episodes and maybe even have a final winner.

  10. Aaawwww Dahne - you didn't leave much for me to add. :P
    Except some quotes:

    Provenance:
Sam: "What kind of house doesn't have salt?! Low sodium freaks!"

    Folsom Prison Blues:
Henriksen: "You think you’re funny. "Dean: "I think I’m *adorable*."

    Hammer of the Gods:
Dean: "We can either take on the Devil together, or you lame-ass bitches can eat me. Literally."

    Mommy Dearest:
Bobby: "Well, congrats. You discovered, you get to name it."
Dean: "Jefferson Starships. Because, they're horrible and hard to kill."

Bobby: "I asked for a computer."
    Sam: "It is a computer."
Bobby: "No, a computer has buttons."I actually can't recall any decent quotes from Jump the Shark off the top of my head. Either I've forgotten them or there just weren't any.

  11. Mommy Dearest!! happy to see the second half of season 6 got some love :D

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ha!  Besides "I lost my shoe", "Low sodium freaks" is my favorite Sam line ever.  Another reason why Provenance rocks!  The "I'm adorable" line from Dean in FPB rocks my world too.  Since I'm not watching Jump the Shark until Friday (if my computer gets fixed in enough time), I looked it up and nope, I couldn't find any great lines.  Another reason to dislike this episode.  I did find:

Ghoul - "We are what we eat."
    Dean - "Godzilla's just a movie."
    Sam - "He's a Winchester.  He's already cursed."

  13. Things do seem to be more pro-season 6 right now.  I'm glad to see it.  I think it has 2 more chances at a win, which would put it right up there with seasons 2 and 5.  Sorry there isn't more season 1 love though.  I thought it had some of the best standalone episodes of them all.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Folsom Prison Blues for me. Everything in this ep clicked. I loved the set-up and how they got busted, knowing the system well enough to know they'd go to Green River Detention Center. I loved Deacon and their reaction to him once they were alone, (the boys need old friends!) and Dean's speech to the lawyer was Dean at his best. Sam may have the puppy eyes, but Dean has the heartfelt voice and it won over the lady lawyer. He's velvety smooth. :) Hammer of the Gods was interesting and I loved having Gabriel back and finally see him choose a side. Mommy Dearest was kind of a disappointment in the fact that they got rid of her so quickly. I did love Clever Dean and it was nice to see everyone on the same page again. Provenance and Jump the Shark did nothing for me. Tho I did think the little girl was creepy -- but aren't all little girls in the Supernatural world?

  15. I see you already have the Crowley STV Badge! Impressive stuff! Just the big four left for now :P

  16. I would like to apologize, I know my grammar skills stink and honestly typing on my phone is pain sometimes. ;)
Having said that, I had a hard time deciding which episode to vote for. The only thing I was sure of was I was not going to vote for Jump the Shark. I did like it just not as much as the other episodes. I liked that in a way you got to see "big brother" side of Sam when he was teaching faux Adam to shoot.
I had to vote for Folsom Prison Blues, I liked this episode more than the others by a really small margin. There are always some great one liners in any episode but I had to laugh when Dean promised Sam he wouldn't sell him for a pack of smokes.
(Small side thought, it's funny that for all their vices, you have never seen them smoke)

  17. I do not count when it comes to Supernatural badges because part of my job when posting is keeping the dialogue flowing.  Although even before I started posting and well before the badges, I did rack up an impressive amount of comments.  I believe there were several people hinting that I should shut up last year.  Honestly, I think the badges are a fun way to tell me the same thing.  :-P

  18. 1. Hammer of the Gods
    2. Mommy Dearest
    3. Provenance
    4. Folsom Prison Blues
    5. Jump The Shark

  19. No need to apologize and I don't mean to come off as the grammar police.  I just don't want to miss a good conversation.  I make plenty of mistakes myself and I often think faster than I type so I have missing words and typos galore.  Pretty sad for an ex-English teacher.  (Also, I can barely type on my phone as it is.)

Thanks for adding something positive about Jump the Shark.  Sam as big brother was interesting.  I also agree that FPB was awesome with the snark.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah, I don't think any other show quite portrays kids the way Supernatural does.  It's a wonder Supernatural fans have children.  I would love to see Deacon back.  You're right; they do need some old friends who don't die.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1) Folsom Prison Blues
    2) Porvenance

At this point I'm staring at the list and trying to think of an order.  Some great lines in Mommy Dearest but I was not that fond of the Actress playing Mother.  But Jefferson Starships, Dean's handling of the mother, and the twist of the demons taking care of the trojan horse....Hammer of the Gods...Lots of stuff I liked...but I just wasn't down with he angels taking all the other gods out at once.  It pushed a button that I won't elaborate on here. :-)   Then there's Jump the Shark.  Which I didn't have any problems with.  I knew when Adam showed up that that character had a specific purpose. His character didn't exist just to do a John Winchester had a secret family story...that character was the way out of the ending they'd set up.  Okay.  Well that rambling actually helped me make a decision

    3) Jump the Shark
    4) Mommy Dearest
    5) Hamer of the Gods

    ReplyDelete
  22. my favorite kids is the little girl whose Dad told her about the Tooth Fairy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hmmm...... see, I didn't remember any of those - it just proves how 'memorable' they are I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I had issues with the fact that Lucifer took out all the other gods without breaking a sweat too, especially since he really hadn't done much to show he was that powerful beforehand.  It's not like these guys were random demons.  They were supposed to be gods.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's interesting the number of times people comment they want a return to the S1 style of MoTW episodes, and yet the poll results don't reflect those comments at all really. Is it the season as a whole that people remember so nostalgically?

    ReplyDelete
  26. geordiegirl19671 August 2011 at 06:15

Yep I went for Mommie Dearest too. I have been surprised by how well the 2nd (post soulless Sam) half of s6 has done in these polls for me. s6 part 2 actually ranks pretty high in my favourite season list. Shame that the first half is second last (easily beaten by s4 as the worst SPN has ever stooped).

I actually love all the other eps in this list too. No JtS hate from me. I enjoyed it. I have no problem with Adam.

    ReplyDelete
  27. pagan gods... and i think they were more powerful when people believed in them like American Gods...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good point.  Sometimes I think it is the competition rather than the episodes themselves.  Asylum, Scarecrow, and Faith all went against some pretty big hitters (Mystery Spot for instance) and I consider them some of the best episodes around.  But for the most part, season 1 seems to fall either 3 or 4th in these polls.  Perhaps it is because mytharc episodes tend to make the bigger impression but season1's lack of utter depression seems so appealing right now.  Back then things sucked but they still won more than they lost.

  29. pinkphoenix19851 August 2011 at 06:32

I love your explanation for Provenance because I too love Sarah as a PiP and  that is my favorite episode...

And funnily enough how you've ordered the episodes is pretty much the order I like them in although there is no real 5th place since I don't really like Mommy Dearest or Hammer of the Gods more than the other...

    ReplyDelete
  30. uhg Folsom Prison or Mommy Dearest? Both were awesome episodes. So they take my 1 and 2 spot but not sure which order yet.

next comes Jump the Shark which i didn't find horrible or at all jumping the shark because in the words of Chuck "It's not jumping the shark if you never come down" :P I'm not an Adam hater like so many others. Yes it was a bit of a "wait, what another brother?" moment but when it turned out he was dead anyways it was like ok, that works out.

The next two I'm as much torn between which should be last because I hated it more as the first two for liking them a lot. Provenience didn't sell it for me with the romance and Dean was pushing Sam into it way too forcefully. Like Sam had to just get over Jess already and screw a girl because that's how Dean deals with his emotions and women and can't go a long time without a good lay. As for Hammer of the Gods I love, love Gabriel our beloved Trickster so i wanted to be in love with the episode but the western Christianity trumps all other religions and the devil easily kills off a bunch of gods plus Gab was instant hate for me. It had it's unique fun shoutouts though like the name of the hotel and Gab's porno was great fun even though it came after his death. :(

I think I'm going to go with Folsom Prison cause I love the premise and the boys won and Dean has a ton of great lines in that one and Sam is just so bitchy and uncomfortable in jail while dean just fits right in, (poor sSammy, dean won't trade you for smokes and if they try to gangbang you he'll save you). And the end I love that the atorney got back at Hendrickson for being an ass to her and helped out the boys to get away because she thought there had to be more to the story (good intuition honey). Mommy Dearest could end have beaten out Folsom if it wasn't so new I love the episode but haven't seen it nearly enough times yet to cement it as a favorite for sure over others that are definite favs.

And in last place I'll put Provenience just because Gabriel saved me from all out hating Hammer of the Gods and when having friends and family "speed" watch the series (watching only the necessary episodes for the plot) I wouldn't skip Hammer like I always advise Provenience to be skipped for not having anything necessary to see in it and nothing really worthy to make it watchable besides the focus on plot (some non-plot driven episodes I recommend to watch on a speed-watch would include Hollywood Babylon cause it's good and has great lines and a fun story.)

  31. Asylum & Scarecrow... they were really spooky ones... Loved them!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sorry.  I totally forgot the tooth fairy part.  For me the changelings were the creepiest kids on Supernatural.  Katie dripping wet asking about ice cream freaks me out more than blond Lilith in the bloody dress.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've never really ranked half seasons before.  Interesting thought.  The last half of season 4 would definitely be my least favorite with the end of season 5 in second and the beginning of season 5 in third.  The end of season 2, the beginning of season 3, and the beginning of season 4 would be high points, although not necessarily in that order.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sarah was smart, determined, brave, and helpful.  I don't see how anyone could not like her although I'm sure some people don't.  For me, she was a high point in the whole season.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hammer of the gods! :'( poor gabe hope he returns for season 7!

    ReplyDelete
  36. If we still have to have angels and if the writers are determined to resurrect yet another character, then Gabe gets my vote.  He makes everything better and I really miss his sarcastic announcements.  Besides, he was one of the few plot points that I had absolutely no idea was coming in season 5.  The Trickster is an angel - never in a million years would I have suspected that one.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1.  Mommy Dearest has my vote for this one but only by a small margin.  It was just a well written story line and had  everything that was needed.   I loved the fact that Dean ingested the Phoenix ashes figuring he'd get bitten.  That was a chance he took, and it was a good one.

    2.  Provenance is one of my favorite episodes.  Whenever I write a fan fiction with an AU ending that gives the boys a normal life at the end, I pair Sam with Sarah Blake.  In my mind, she is the perfect woman for him.  I have to agree with you.  The story scared me too.

    3.  Folsom Prison Blues  This is a great story also.  It is one of the ones I always watch when it comes on TNT.    I miss these type of episodes.

4.Hammer of the Gods.   It had its moments.  For me, they were mainly Gabriel.    I seriously hope that the new writers have a more creative bent  and are more willing to do more with a story than what  was done last year.  Too many times,  the material was there.  There was  plenty to work with.  It was wasted.   As a writer, I cringed at imes, at the wasted  of good material.

5,  Jump the Shark.  Not a favorite episode.  I'm sorry7.  I don't like John Winchester.  Liked him even less after this episode.  The writers should never have included Adam.  Unless they had the idea oidea of the Michael all along.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My fantasy ending has Sam and Sarah together too.  They clicked so well and she had the characteristics needed to emotionally survive the Winchester clan.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Another thing about Sarah that I liked was how she put Sam at ease in the restaurant when waiter handed him that wine list.  Sam looked at it.  You could tell he had no idea what to order.  Sarah ordered a beer.   The relief on Sam's face was priceless, and he knew she had done that for him.  I loved it.  They were so much alike in some ways.  They were perfect for each other.  Dean was right.  Sam should have married her.

  41. i must be one of the only ones but i really enjoyed hammer of the gods the most. I thought it was a fun episode. Provenance is deffo my 2nd place though

    ReplyDelete
  42. I voted for Mommy Dearest. I logve that epi so much.

    ReplyDelete
  43.  Difficult choice today as Folsome Prison Blues and Provenance are amongst my favouites.

I'll give it to FPB because it was priceless how Dean just fitted in so well amongst the other convicts, even if he did take the occasional beating, and how badly Sam did.
I thought the ending was smart too with the double cemetery twist.

Provenance had a great story but it was overshadowed positively by the Sam-Sarah dynamic which was excellent.

She really seemed made for Sam,  bolstering up the fragile self-deprecating part of him and blocking his tendency to self-sacrifice in order to save others unhappiness.

She was courageous too which doesn't hurt in the Winchester world and beautiful.
She is pehaps the only female that I can see joining with the boys on their mission much more so than Jo even although Jo already lived in a hunters world.

I will put Hammer of the Gods next although I thought the boys got actually very little do in the episode.
They were sort of observing most of the time.( although they observed beautifully! )
The idea was quite good but badly executed.  Gabriel was the best thing in it:

What can I say about Jump the Shark! When it was revealed that John had a hidden son it brought my esteem level of John into the minus as it was already at rock bottom.

None of it was Adam's fault, of course, but it saddened me to picture Sam and Dean in dirty motel rooms while Adam got taken to 'ball games!
I liked Sam's line about the Winchesters being cursed (prophetic )
and his efforts at playing big brother but that's about it.
The twist about Adam being a ghoul was ok too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The first really tough one for me...I ended up voting Provenance because it was a good story, with a strong girl...and I have a weak spot for Taylor Cole.
    So:

    1. Provenance
    2. Hammer of the Gods - loved Gabriel and Lucifer killings gods like its nothing
    3. Folsom Prison Blues - tight with HotG as it was a great story
    4. Mommy Dearest - wasn't expecting Eve to die that quickly or easily, kinda underwhelming from the hype for me
    5. Jump the Shark - well ya...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yet another reason why Spoilertv is so much better than IMDb forums because people here are mature, have real conversations, and have reasoning for their opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree with Gabriel's death being a downside to the episode, but I loved the way they did it, it was amazing, and really tugged at my heart strings! Never the less, I'm going with Hammer of the Gods, it was a great episode. and "Don't mock my world turtle." is one of my favourite Supernatural quotes.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 1.Folsom Prison Blues(I loved that episode especially Dean promising not to exchange Sam for a pack of cigarettes!!!!!)
    2.Provenance
    3.Mommy Dearest
    4.Hammer of the Gods
    5.Jump the Shark

    ReplyDelete
  48. 1.Folsom Prison Blues -
    2.Hammer of the Gods
    3.Provenance
    4.Mommy Dearest
    5.Jump the Shark

I would've gone with  Hammer at 1. but I remembered the actual fun factor (and Winchester Success Factor) and picked Folsom. Still I love Gabriel, the moustache, the kielbasa and the idea of gods. Many of supernatural things I depicted differently than I'm used to (vampires, werewolves etc) so although yes I believe that gods should've had more power (and more visible name plaques, and there should've been MORE of them, and they'd [some of them at least] would've preferred other offerings than human flesh, still I'm glad show went there (love Khali!) and I can go with this depiction (after all as Terry Pratchett claimed in 'Small Gods" [and Margit Sandemo in few volumes of 'The Legend of the Ice People]  a god is only as powerful as the volume of his followers/believers- and as such the Christnian 'Mythology' with Lucifer and archangels is now the most widely known source of faith, so it makes sense in my mind that Lucifer would trump pagan gods. Not that I personally believe that, but I can get in with the story here).
Though I hate Gabriel dying (bring him back show, and STAT) he has quite an epic one.

As for Provenance Sarah was cool, so was the story whith the large scare factor so it's classic SPN galore at it's best.

Monny Dearest has the disturbingly sexy older Mary Winchester, Jefferson Starships, Bobby dissing Ipad, and my last moment of not considerning Cas a TOTAL manipulative bastards. The return of Crowley deserves some kudoz too, as the way in which Dean tricks mommy. Still the whole built up for Eve and then having her disposed of as MotW is pretty anticlimatic in this otherwise awesome eppy.

Lets not talk about the Shark. Let me tell you I abhor Adam though.Guh!

  49. No real stand-out episode for me in this poll.  I went with Mommy Dearest, but it could jsut have easily been Folsom Prison or Provenance.

you do have some interesting points and I guess that every single female character on the show who is shown as a love interest for either of the boys will have flaws and probably lots of Mary Sue tendencies according to the degree that each viewer likes or dislikes the character...

I would have disliked this episode a lot less if Adam had not turned out to be a real person. A typical end-of-season-4-episode : depressing, never funny and awfully easy to forget.

totally agree with you about Sam and Sarah. I still consider them to be perfect for each other even after 5 additional seasons and the changes Sam has gone through...

  60. well, another round of great episode, although i have to admit that jump the shark easily falls into last place for me too. i didn't loathe adam but i didn't like all too much either
although i am a big fan of the rest of these, my vote had to go with hammer of the gods. i loved, absolutley loved it. there were some points throughout that i thought were a bit iffy but other than that it was awesome. as usual, i love gabriel so having him in it just made this episode ten times better. his eventual willingness to stick up for the boys made him so much more awesome although i was devastated when they killed him off probably more than any other character so far in the series (not including back when sam and dean died the first time and i didn't know they would be coming back). i was kinda upset at how they killed off all the gods because they could have been so awesome and its a bit silly the some angel can kill these thousand year old gods. and i loved how sam and dean kinda stood up to the gods and still made it their first priority to save everyone in the hotel.
next up  would be mommy dearest. eve was by far my fave story line of season 6 and while i wish they could have done more with her, i loved this episode.i thought she was awesome and i loved the jefferson starships and how dean killed mother with the phoenix ash.
next come folsom prison blues which i just loved
followed by prevenance which had a really creepy ghost girl
and finally, jump the shark, which is ok, not bad, but by far in my opinion, the weakest one on this list.

  61. I'm laughing at your post.  I also didn't think Sarah was anything special, but I didn't dislike her as much as you did.  I thought she was pretty two-dimensional and forgettable.  Sam seems to have forgotten her anyway.  She worked with where Sam was in that episode, but I can't imagine Sarah and season 6 Sam in the room together for more than five minutes.  I wonder how she would have handled RoboSam.

  62. It was a tough choice for me between Hammer of the Gods and Mommy Dearest.  In the end I went with Hammer.  I don't know why some people really don't like it.  I thought it was a great episode - even if Gabe died.

I loved the barroom scene with Eve in Mommy Dearest, and I loved the end reveal - especially the look on Cas's face, but the thing that pulls this episode back back for me is that there were too many people working the case.  When Bobby comes along on hunts, the dynamic shifts so that it's Bobby and Dean working the case, with Sam along as the muscle.  Sam had a few good lines, but match this up against another where it's just Sam and Dean working the case, and I'll go with the Sam and Dean episode.

  63. There are a few very vocal people on these boards, but their opinions don't necessarily match the larger fandom.  The Third Man is a good example.  If you read the comments over the past season, you would think it was the worst episode that ever aired, but that's not reflected in the results of the poll that ran right after the episode.  Personally, I don't want a return to the season 1 style.  I much prefer the complexity of the later seasons - with Heaven, Hell, Purgatory monsters, and mythic arcs. I find myself getting bored when I try to get through a chunk of season 1 episodes.

  65. Hammer of the Gods was my favorite of these.  Not sure why everyone is so down on the fact that Lucifer totally wiped the floor with the pagan Gods.  From everything I've ever read a God gets its power from being worshiped.  Many of those Pagan Gods have pretty much been forgotten.  I mean come on, how many people do you know who actually pray to Kali, Baldur or even Odin for that matter?  Very few.  Hell most people don't even know who they are.  That being said, Lucifer is what every God loving person fears.  He is a very powerful being.  I thought it was bad ass that he barely raised an arm and killed them all.  In the end, we were supposed to fear Lucifer above all.  He was the big bad for the season.

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the Lucifer slaughterfest, Gabriel made this episode for me.  I've loved every episode that he's been in and he had the best line for the season.  "Lucifer, you’re my brother, and I love you, but you are a great big bag of dicks.  I laughed and laughed at that.  Love and miss Gabriel.

  66.  I have to agree with you here about Lucifer.
The more people believe in the various god-like figures the stronger they become as with the Tulpa in HellHouse. ( At least that's the lore )
In our Millenia I would say that Lucifer is the biggest bad out there  as he is pretty famous!

  69. Honestly, I'd prefer she never comes back. Because when women come back on this show, they are usually brought back just to die. O.o

I can think of at least 3 incredible women just offhand that were brought back just to be slaughtered. Even a gap from season 2 to the end of season 6 (IN Mommy Dearest, no less!)

  70. The one thing Jump the Shark DID have was really freaky monsters. The ghouls were great. :)

  72. Well, get used to it. If the spoilers I've been reading here are correct, things are just getting more difficult for the Winchesters.
Maybe they'll finally wise up, have each others' backs again and regain that wit they have lost since the gigantic world take-overs started in season 5?

  73. Wow, I didn't realise Jump The Shark was so disliked. xD I loved it and Adam is one of the main characters I want to see again, even if it's just to stop him being tortured by Michael and Lucifer. All of them were great though, ended up going with Hammer Of The Gods.

I went with Hammer of the Gods. I love Supernatural episodes that start out light and fun, but gradually become more significant and intense as the episode proceeds, and this was 1 of those episodes. I also love Sam and Dean's rain soaked entrance in the beginning (which is how every episode should start lol). Even though the episode contained the death of one of my favorite characters, Gabriel, it was still an amazing episode

  75. 1. Provenance
    2. Folsom Prison Blues
    3. Mommy Dearest
    4. Hammer of the Gods
    5. Jump the Shark

Provenance - I liked the story.  The creepy little ghost girl with the razor was killing people but everyone blamed the dad. He was trying to leave clues and Sam and Dean figured it out ... all by themselves.  I love when that happens.  I really liked Sarah Blake.  She felt responsible for some of the deaths and wanted to help stop more deaths from happening, even though she was scared.  She also made a contribution to stopping creepy razor kid with her knowledge of antique dolls.

Folsom Prision Blues - Sam and Dean going to prison to repay the debt of their good for nothing father showed great character on their part.  I liked Deacon and it took me awhile to figure out that the guy in charge was actually Deacon.  I liked the lawyer, she believed Dean.  I liked the con she played on Henrickson with the cemetery switch.  Dean fitting so well in a prison setting was amusing. This episode had lots of great one-liners.

Mommy Dearest - The mother of all trying to create the perfect monster by trial and error was interesting. I like Dean, Sam, Bobby, and Cas all working together on a case.  I liked that Dean got to show his creative side by goading Eve into biting him after he had ingested the phoenix ash. I liked that we got Crowley back.  I didn't like that they killed off Eve so quickly.  I felt they could have developed her character better.

Hammer of the Gods - I liked that we got Gabriel back and that none of the Gods knew who he really was.  I liked that he worked with Sam and Dean instead of against them. But, I thought the Gods were a little weak for Gods.  I didn't like that Lucifer killed everybody so easily.

Jump the Shark - I hated the Adam story line.  So John Winchester had another kid and didn't let any of his kids know about it.  He then leaves Sam and Dean to take Adam to baseball games and spend birthdays with him, what a d***.  The ghouls cutting Sam and sticking their fingers in his side was way gross.  This episode is close to Bugs as the worst episode ever in my opinion.

  77. I found a quote from Jump the Shark
Adam: he (dad) was a mechanic, right?
Dean: a car fell on him
    *me*: don't I wish

  80. 1.Provenance- This is another episode that actually creeped me out, murderous children with sharp instruments always makes me sleep with one eye open. Sarah Blake is one of my favorite female characters, she was strong and independent, scared s**tless but still determined to help stop something evil she knew nothing about, and no one was going to stop her. She had the brains and , oh, I like to call it "spunk" that fit perfectly with the boys. Her chemistry with Sam was awesome, she's the only one time female character that I would like to see come back.
2.Mommy Dearest- I was glad to see the end of Eve, whose entire story line was simply a smoke screen to keep us off Castiel's trail. I agree they could have given Eve a much stronger story-line/character but it was the wrong place/wrong time,so sorry honey, ya gotta go! (But it's SPN after all and we all know dying isn't the same here). Absolutely LOVED Dean's genius shining once again, but he nearly gave me a stroke when he told her to "bite me". The Castiel revelation wasn't exactly a total shock but it was a real heartbreaker for me.
    3. Folsom Prison Blues- It did not surprise me at all that the boys would go to prison for a friend, especially a friend of their father. Family is what they are all about. The ghost story was awesome,( I love ghost stories!) liked the twist and the nasty nurse. I have to say this, "I loved Tiny!!", we need more Tiny, Yes, I'm a Clif fan.
4.Hammer of The Gods- Gabriel/Trickster/Loki is always fantastic and I refuse to believe he won't come back. I completely agree that the "Gods" were more like a table of Frat boys deciding what the next round of hazing will consist of rather than how to deal with Lucifer. So the purpose of the epi was to see Lucy's power and get the story of the rings and Lucifer's cage, and of course a glimpse of Gabriel's porn career! I wish they would have given us a better look into the power of the gathered Gods because it was just too easy for Lucy to rip them all apart.
    5. Jump The Shark- Totally agree with everything you said Dahne, I never liked even the concept of another Winchester brother and certainly didn't need to meet him. Of course, since it was a ghoul and not Adam, it just made me hate the thought and character even more. It's difficult enough to get a likable new character on "our show", but to intro another brother while he's trying to kill Sam just wasn't a great idea. He's one Winchester I will not miss and never want to see again.

  86. The second half of season 6 was really awesome. Had it been like this from the beginning, we could've had a totally ass kicking season. Hope they keep this awesomeness for the entire season 7.

    ReplyDelete
  87. It was between Provenace and Mommy Dearest for me.

I really loved Sarah in Provenance, but most of all I loved the MOTW story. What can I say, I'm a sucker for creepy ghost children they used to bring in the first seasons. I really hope we get some of them in season 7. And the idea of a haunted painting was really cool.

Mommy Dearest was great with its humour and the twist with Crowley. But I agree with most that they killed Eve off too soon, without even giving her a storyline. In general, after this episode I felt her character was almost entirely useless. Such a wasted potential. But yeah, loved the way Dean defeated her.

I also really liked Folsom Prison Blues and Hammer of the Gods, both pretty strong episodes. Jump the Shark was totally useless, like the whole Adam character.

So, having said that, I voted for Provenance, with Mommy Dearest a close second. And I'm already starting to think what to vote for in the next poll, it's gonna be a tough call between the classic What Is and What Should Never Be and the still fresh awesomeness of The Man Who Would Be King.

  88. Bummed I missed voting yesterday.  Oh well.
#1.  Hammer of the Gods: On of my favorites.  Love Gabriel in this one and so many good one liners.  And lets not forget the elephant.  "its always wrong place, worst time with you mutton heads" "Luci, I'm home" "I'm the Costner to your Houston" and the best line ever, "Lucifer, your my brother and I love you, but sometimes you are a great big bag of dicks."

#2. Is a tie...Folsom Prison Blues and Provenance.  Loved everything about Folsom...how easily Dean fit in, trading smokes for info, and one of my favorite lines...when asked why he was in there, Sam replies, "because I have an idiot for a brother" :)  And with Provenance, I loved the kiss between Sam and Sarah and the "talk" they have while waiting for Dean.

#4.  Mommy Dearest.  I really liked this one, but haven't watched it enough to really comment.  Loved the Jefferson Starships and how they played Jefferson Starship at the end.

#5. I must admit that jump the shark is literally the only episode of SPN that I haven't watched...ever.  My DVR didn't tape it when it was on the first time and I just have never wanted to watch it when it was on re-runs (or on my DVD's)  Not sure why...just haven't ;)

  89. I loved seeing the guy who played Deacon in "The French Mistake"

  90. Love, love, LOVE Hammer of the Gods.  It's by far my favorite in this poll and I want Kali to recur so very very much.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I agree with your assessment of all except Mommy Dearest.  I hated that episode!  That goes into the "I will never watch it again unless absolutely necessary" pile.  Provenance is in my overall top ten.  That episode is the scariest one of the entire series in my opinion.  Thanks for doing these polls.  They've been fun!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Wow, I don't think there was a single 19th episode that was bad XD but I'm going to go with Folsom Prison Blues because I'm pretty sure it was the first episode I ever watched.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Good point.  If they bring Sarah back just to kill her, they might as well leave her in my imagination.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yes, I hated the Third Man and yes I am vocal.  However, at all the boards I've visited over the summer there is a high dose of season 1 nostalgia going on.  It's not just me.  There is something appealing about the brothers having fun, smiling sometimes, maybe even laughing.  That element from season 1 has been largely missing and I think that is why people are hoping for a season 1 return.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I know which one i'm voting for but I will be on tenterhooks all day to see which one wins.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Thanks for commenting.  So what would you have voted for the 18th episode?

  97. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Kali come back.  Maybe she and Cas could have it out.

  98. You're welcome.  Thanks for helping us pass the time in hiatus.  I will try to get another poll up tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  99. You had the luck to come in on a really good one then.  It is classic Supernatural with a ghost and a twist.  It's one that I always watch when it comes on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I thought it was so hilarious that after Kali's big speech and after being such a hardass for the entire episode, she had to get a ride from the boys in the Impala to get away from Lucifer.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Folsom Prison Blues and Hammer of the Gods were two of my favorite episodes of the entire show, let alone just the 19th episodes.
