Update: 22:30 Thanks to Emily for the heads up that Syfy's Craig Engle has tweeted the following.

UPDATE: we're hearing from some sources that Alphas' fate has yet to be decided

Via someone who worked on the Show
We will try to get a confirmation however Alphas ratings were identical to the cancelled Eureka's still take this with a grain of salt for now.

  1. Ok. So I've been recording and wondering if I should watch. I have my answer. No.

  2. Seriously?!!! There aren't too many shows out there now that I enjoy, but Alphas is one of them. I really hope it hasn't been cancelled.

  3. syfy sucks so hard i cant even poop

  4. No!!  I hope this is not true. I really LOVE Alphas and I don't watch any Syfy show so that's saying a lot for me!

  5. SyFY must have a heck of a pilot order or they are going to increase wrestling and reality TV.  What's up with the cancelling party?

    ReplyDelete
  6. This better just be a rumor, I only watch three show on Sy Fy, well 2 now thanks to them canceling Eureka. If they cancel Alphas I'm protesting.

  7. It gets around the same ratings as Eureka, a veteran show. If Eureka has to be cancelled so should Alphas.

Warehouse 13 is the highest rated scripted program. It should be safe, but you never know with Syfy.

  8. i suppose they dont know where to put those 35 + episodes of Lost Girl  + they need more room for cooking and boxing

    ReplyDelete
  9. What, no? I love Alphas! First Eureka and now Alphas? WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU, SYFY?

    ReplyDelete
  10. this better not be true the ratings are very good so syfy would be dumb to cancel it

    ReplyDelete
  11. This can't be true. I actually am starting to really like this show.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They still have Warehouse 13  . . . . for now

  13. I just went to this chick's Twitter Profile, she seems to just be spurting out random things at multiple celebrities like she's friends with them so I don't know if she's all the credible a source, she seems like a flake

    ReplyDelete
  14. i thought that too but they seem to be replying to her tweets so i guess she is legit

  15. Not a fan of the show but its its true Sy Fy is in major trouble, they keep cancelling shows and pissing off sci-fi fans in the end people will stop tuning in.

    ReplyDelete
  16. yeah SGU, Caprica, Alphas and Eureka are alot of shows for them to cancel in one year(not that i watch anything in SyFy)

    ReplyDelete
  17. The final episode of Eureka is still more than a year away.  It may be canceled, but with about 20 episodes to go, it is far from over.

  18. they cancelled Stargate Universe and no other cancellation will surprise me more. After seeing only three episodes I feel that Alphas is only decent. It lacks something..I don't know why. The only character I like is the ex-squint from Bones. The rest is bearly likeable...but I didn't want to cross this show out so soon. And I really enjoy David Strathaim and his acting.

THAT MEANS VINCENT DIDN'T HAVE TO DIE ON BONES!!!! :(

  21. Super hero shows were a flash in the pan.  They were all the rage after Heroes, then boom, gone.

Heroes, No Ordinary Family, The Cape, Smallville, Tower Prep, and now Alphas.

Syfy has 2 more super hero shows in the pipe: Three Inches and Me & Lee.  But they have hardly mentioned them in the last year, so it wouldn't surprise me if they get dumped or turned into one-off movies.

The best bet for fans of super hero shows will likely be Powers coming some time around January on FX.

  24. well apparently it isnt cancelled yet (but not renewed either)

  25. I hope not. This is the first show I've been excited about in a long time. I would buy a ton of merchandise and the DVDs, and I'm sure a lot of other people would as well.  Just check tumblr.

  26. You're so right - I wanted to like the show, and I'm still watching, but its definitely missing some spark: and Gary is all kinds of great. My best guess is that its taking itself a mite to seriously, I mean, look at what was required to save Rachel last ep - that whole scene felt very unreal to me. Moving, I guess, but unreal.

  27.  Syfy on twitter are denying the rumour too now - http://twitter.com/#!/Syfy/status/101403006565761025

There is no truth to the rumors some have asked me about that #Alphas was canceled. They are literally filming new eps as I type this.

  29. Wouldn't surprise me after Eureka.

  30. Thanks for the update Emily.

  31. Like we can trust their word after what happened with Eureka these past few days.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'll believe them when they announce S2. Oh wait, no, we can't trust them on that either. I'll believe them when S2 starts filming.

He kind of has to say that and it is a non-answer really. He didn't say it wasn't cancelled just that they are currently filming new(S1) episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. GUHHH this is the second time this week I'm just completely confused over the actual status of a SYFY show.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love this show, really hope it gets a S2...

    ReplyDelete
  35. You're right. I didn't notice how much of a non-answer is was at first glance.

I think if it is canceled they will wait a few days before announcing it. They already made a mess of things by the way they handled Eureka. Its far too soon to piss off another show's fans.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Pardon me if I take this with a heavy dose of skepticism.  Just the other day they said Eureka wasn't canceled either.

  37. Syfy is playing Russian roulette with their fan base.  If the network doesn't improve its leadership, direction, and public relations, Syfy will end up like VH1 - a network with no identity and a very week viewer base.

    ReplyDelete
  38. VH1's Single Ladies actually gets better ratings that anything on SyFy

    ReplyDelete
  39. That is equally the saddest and most disturbing comment I've read in quite a while.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hmmm...t's a pretty okay show. I mean I really enjoyed the pilot but the following episodes just haven't been as good. I do hope it doesn't get cancelled as the characters are all very likeable but I wouldn't exactly be surprised if it does.

Just please don't let Syfy cancel Warehouse 13 or Haven. PLEASE.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sigh.  ABC spent weeks denying the rumors that they were canceling All My Children.  Then they cancelled two of the three soaps.

SyFy hasn't respected science fiction for years.  Anyhow.  I hope they give this show some time.  I, personally, think the characters are great but the stories could be better.  I think it has potential.   I hope they have time to hit their potential.  I so soo miss the days when the networks would give a show the chance to grow.   In today's landscape I don't think we'd have a show like X-Files....for example.

    ReplyDelete
  42. well, I think that it is too early to tell even if the news is fake...but I wouldn't be surprised if they do...it is a cut-throat ratings blood bath sometimes...

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hope that it's wrong because there is a lot of potential for this show!
It can't be cancel, just IMPOSSIBLE !!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ha! But "Guest" got caught anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Appearently the woman who started this really did work on the show and someone told her on set that it was cancelled so it might end up being true despite SyFy denying it perhaps there are negotiations that are "going badly" so they told her its cancelled cuz it probably will be but deal is not completely 0% yet so publicly not cancelled

    ReplyDelete
  46. PLEASE be true! This show needs to die- even reality and wrestling is more science fiction than this garbage....

    ReplyDelete
  47. Did you hit before reading what you wrote? Reality is more sci-fi than this garbage??? It's a show about people with special powers...I'm not certain, but I think that trumps "reality" on the science fiction tricorder by sheer definition.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was exaggerating a bit - but just barely..... This show is absolute junk. If they don't cancel it (after cancelling the few good shows they DO have some of which had the same or better ratings than this) I think i'm going to be sick.....

    ReplyDelete
  49. And the "Special powers" they all have are so horribly done and boring..... even as a (not so) "Super Heroes" show it's an EPIC FAIL!

    ReplyDelete
  50. At least Eureka (per Syfy) is still on deck for full season 5... I'll miss the show when it's over - it's one of my top 3 summer favorites, Leverage and Haven being the other two. At least with a definite (?) Season 5, the Eureka showrunners/writers can end the series on their own terms.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I just read this (debunked) rumor and I agree with anyone who dislikes the show and feels it should be cancelled. "Heroes" was much better in the first seasons. I gave the show every possible chance and have seen every episode and its ... boring.

I don't find any of the characters that likable (not even the SPN Alums, "Luther" and "Birgitta"). I'm especially not too fund of  the "Gary" character, of course the audience is supposed to have the most problem relating to the Autistic Savant Alpha, Gary, but I have a medium-high functioning, young teenage, autistic nephew (not an "Alpha" obviously) who repeats similar socially (or physically) unacceptable habits over and over again (like asking his mom [my sister] if he can do something he's already been told patiently and repeatedly he can't and the sound reasons why) as the Gary character exhibits. I'm sorry to seem insensitive but when Gary starts "demanding to do something" he can't - because it's not safe to him or others (like carrying a gun or driving the car) it literally gives me a headache.
