Hi. Sorry, I'll be posting new polls this weekend to make up for the delay. Here's one now, and about a personal favourite of mine : It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The show is by far the longest running live-action comedy on basic cable, they've already done 70 brilliant episodes and in 6 weeks, the 7th season will premiere on FX.Which season is your favourite so far ? First off, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has got to be one of funniest sitcoms I've ever seen, alongside Arrested Development, Curb your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, The Office, Community and Friends.
ReplyDeleteI just finished season 6 a few days ago (I started watching the show in January but because it was so good I didn't want to rush into it, I took my time) and wow, years go by and Sunny is still really funny and imaginative. I laugh out loud quite often and I don't usually do that even when watching great comedies, but here it's just so damn good I can't help it. What struck me at first in season 1 is how original, smart and provocative (and yet not vulgar) this show is, and 69 episodes later, it is still true. They come up with stories no other comedy could even think about pulling off.
I was worried about the baby thing in season 6, because a baby doesn't really fit into the show (except in a trash) and you can't just get rid of one easily, but the way they resolved this issue was well thought out : the tranny and her boyfriend wanted a baby and Dee was their surrogate. That was the perfect way to deal with that situation. I was really not picturing the gang with a baby in season 7.
As for my favourite season, I would have to go with season 3. I can't rank them though, all six seasons are #1 in my mind, but season 3 has a little something. Anyway, except maybe in season 4 on some episodes, I have never been disappointed by Sunny.
Singling out an episode above all others is tough, especially with such a great show filled with such memorable episodes, choosing one is an impossible task ! The first that comes to my mind right now is "The Gang Wrestles for the Troops" (episode 5.07), it was a pretty good one I think, absolutely hilarious (the catch fight with Mac, Charlie and Dennis as pigeo... eagles, Frank as a referee who would want to come back for one last fight and Cricket as a terrorist was pure epicness...).
I think I'd have to agree about Season 3 although I think I feel a re-watch coming up!

ReplyDeleteI love Sunny! One of my favourite shows ever and definitely in my top 3 comedies of all time.
I remember exactly how I came across the show. A few years ago Comedy Central was launched in Germany. Back then I didn't watch US TV online, just what was on Austrian & German TV. CC Germany had quite a few completely new shows and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia was one of them. I didn't plan on watching it, but more or less accidently saw the pilot episode and was blown away, this show is hilarious! So I kept watching it, but CC wasn't very popular in Germany and after season they stopped showing new episodes of Sunny. Around that time I was already watching Lost & South Park online and so I came across Sunny again and ever since I am up to date.
But to get back to the poll: I also got to go with season 3. It simply has some of the show's best episodes like The Gang Dances Their Asses Off or Frank Sets Sweet Dee On Fire. It also is just consistently funny, all episodes are awesome. But this decision was a tough call!
I think a re-run before the new season starts is just inevitable.
Season 3 is my favorite too, Bunky. How can you go wrong with Greenman and the McPoyles?
ReplyDeleteI think my favourite episodes are The Gang Dances Their Asses Off and Frank Sets Sweet Dee On Fire, both of them are just incredibly funny. The dance-offs (Charlie's ballet) and the situations when they set Dee on fire + "dancing guy" make me laugh out loud every single time!
ReplyDeleteSeaon 4 for me mainly because of 'Mac and Charlie Die' both parts, and 'The Nightman Cometh'. I mean come on! No I mean, cometh!
