The Office - Paul Lieberstein Expects More Cast Departures

Aug 17, 2011

Hey Guys,

Paul Lieberstein has gone on record to state that he expects more of the cast of the The Office to leave following on from Steve Carell's departure, but that he also was positive that the show could survive the transition in a similar way that ER did in the late 1990's...

Speaking to The Hollywood reporter Lieberstein said "It will morph into a new office, maybe the way ER changed. But I think a lot of that was driven by actors having their fill. If people want to stay around here, we are happy to have them."

Lieberstein also commented on the likelihood of more seasons after the 2011-12 season. "I think it has a couple more years, for sure. I think we have a total of eight or nine in us."

  1. Keep Rainn, John, Jenna, Mindy, Leslie and ... Craig.  I'd be sad if the others left but it wouldn't leave a void.  If some of the other bigger names left they might as well just end the show because people probably won't want to watch it unless they brought in some big names.

  2. John, Jenna and Rainn are essential.  The relationships between those three are, in my opinion, what has kept the show together, made it great, and why I'm still very optimistic for the show without Steve.

I mostly like your other choices, especially Craig, as I think Darrel has great potential for new storylines this late into the show.  Leslie I'm not so sure about...  "Goodbye Toby" is my absolute favorite episode and I wouldn't mind Stanley getting hilarious farewell episode.  He would hate it even more than Toby!

  3. NBC is running The Office into ground. And last I check, The Office is not like ER or Law and Order with the ever-changing cast that would survive the losses of the most major characters. The show needs to have an endpoint like Lost.

  4. Sure, ER survived the major cast upheavals and lasted for 15 seasons but it was never the same after Clooney and Margulies left.  The ratings were never the same either.

  5. Don't forget Ed and Creed.
