Lost Girl - Season 2 - SyFy directed changes lead to TV-PG rating?

Aug 23, 2011

The season premiere of Lost Girl season 2 has received a TV-PG rating, down from the normal TV-14 rating of the series. A PG Succubus series? that sure doesn't sound right

  1. not sure I'm liking the sound of this. I hope  the PG rating was only for the season premiere.

  2. Realistically, there was not much in Lost Girl to make it more than PG-13. No real nudity to speak of... although there was a lot of implied nudity and sexuality. Take out the cursing (which was limited too frankly) and you get a PG rating.

I'm not too worried about it I guess, but I'd prefer it was on a premium cable channel and TVMA or R.

  3. "Take out the cursing (which was limited too frankly)"

I just got done rewatching season one and I have to disagree.  "Shit" seemed to be everyone's favorite word, especially Kenzi.  ("Shitballs" FTW!)

As for nudity, it wasn't Skinemax or anything but the amount of skin and the elaborate sex scenes are definitely something that wouldn't show up on a basic cable drama unless it was a "serious" or "prestige" series like The Shield or Mad Men.

I guess it boils down to the fact that I don't like the idea of any outside influence dictating the content of the show.  Lost Girl didn't need Syfy to be a success.  The show became a success on it's own because of the show it was in season 1.  Changing that, especially because of a foreign network who is only paying for the rights to show it and doesn't have a hand in producing it, is crazy.

That being said, this is only a short blurb about one episode.  This doesn't mean Lost Girl has softened as a series.  It's quite possible that the website is jumping the gun a bit.

  4. Awww I knew this was going tohappen the moment I heard SyFy had taken up the series. Of course they are going to censor it. I really wished they just cut it for the US audiences and leave the Canadian version uncut. I only hope they have a uncut Season 2 DVD.

  5. I'm jaded I guess... so you're probably right.

I just never watched it and thought it was anything more mature than many of the other series I watch. I hear swearing on a lot of the series I watch so it didn't stand out to me. That said, I watch a lot of UK series that are ok with mild nudity and premium cable series that have no limits of course.

I'm just not worried even if it is about the full season and not just an episode. The language can be changed without any effect in my mind. I liked Kenzi and her shitballs, but many catch phrases she yelled could make me laugh I'm sure.

The sexuality of it they need to keep for sure, but that can be done without nudity or blatant sexuality without much change in my eyes. I mean they showed Holly Hunter naked and having sex more than I ever cared to on Saving Grace on TNT...

The humor, action, stories, acting and overall vibe I don;t think will be affected at all and personally that's what I enjoyed. Shitballs and sideboob aside....

  6. I agree that the vibe of the show won't change but when you soften the dialogue (which wasn't just about swearing but also included some very frank sexual references and innuendo) the characters, especially a character like Kenzi who is a very unfiltered personality, lose their edge at least a bit.  By association, the show also loses some of its edge.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  7. Why the hell is Syfy able to influence the show? Doesn't Canada own the show? I thought Syfy was just just airing it for American audiences.

  8. SyFy airs it in Australlia, US,UK etc. and is probably their main source of income so even though SyFy doesnt produce it they can still influence them, the creator said as much in comic con that she had to adjust her writing in small ways like certain words she would use less or not at all in season 2

  9. Well, that's just terrible.  After the crap that SyFy has been pulling lately, I really didn't need another reason to dislike that network.

  10. Shitballs. I knew Syfy buying this would frak everything up.

  11. I really hope syfy doesn't screw this show up.
