Thanks to Idahoow for the heads up.
It appears NBC is keeping the door slightly ajar for Chris Meloni to someday return to Law & Order: SVU.
At the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Monday, Peacock boss Robert Greenblatt told TVLine that Meloni’s alter ego, Det. Stabler, would not be killed off when the show returns this fall.

With out Chris, i don't know how much longer SVU will last. I mean Mariska and Chris are the heart of the show.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! *nods*
ReplyDeletethanks for the info! it is nice to know that there is that possibility if the show continues past the upcoming season
ReplyDeleteYou're saying this when the season hasn't even started yet. At least wait until a few episodes in, can't assume anything.
ReplyDeleteGood to know he has an option back....idk how well this transition and new direction will go without Benson and Stabler. The chemistry between the two drove the show!
ReplyDeleteI know, but I mean in a sense while everyone is a big part of the show, Elliot and Olivia were the main characters who give the show its identity. I'm just wondering how it will be now with out the whole original main cast. I felt the same way about CSI when some characters left the show. it just wasn't the same. I mean I'm still going to give it a chance though.
ReplyDeleteWhile I wonder how the show will do without Meloni and Hargitay, we should also wonder what on Earth those two are going to do without the show. Let's face it: Meloni had nothing before L&O:SVU--nobody had the faintest idea who he was...and now he's typecast as Det. Stabler. After all these years, will anybody hire him as another character? And if they did, would the audience "see" anybody but Stabler? NO. He's Elliot Stabler for the rest of his life. As for Hargitay, all she was before L&O:SVU was Jane Mansfield's daughter. That's it. And like Meloni, she's typecast. No casting director is going to see her as any character but Det. Olivia Benson...and no audience will see her any other way either. These two are committing professional suicide here, and watching somebody off him/herself is fascinating in a train-wreck sort of way.
ReplyDeleteIt will go the way of Criminal Intent. Even with Goran and Emes back it wasn't the same. NBC has a death wish!!
