That's simple. 5 minutes before the show, Hugh Laurie told Craig Ferguson he couldn't tell anything about HOUSE. : - ) So, the green card, the akward pause, the CD, the make-up, the Emmys... and then 13 minutes passed. That's hard work.
Sometimes the host just doesn't click with the guest and vice versa. A few months back, Ferguson had a horribly awkward segment with Tony Shalhoub (Monk).
I've been a Letterman fan since I was a kid so I can't go with you there, but I do enjoy Craig Ferguson. It still amazes me how he turned that damned robot into a popular personality on the show. It's an impressive feat to say the least.
I thought they were very comfortable with each other. Body language, touching - just two very intelligent and funny men outdoing each other. And I seem to remember from Craig's book that they have known each other for a long time.
Craig doesn't ask details about anyone's projects, especially tv show plots. That's his style, very loose, mostly pointless, and entirely unprepared. Anyway, they seemed very comfortable to me. They know each other from way back, to at least the 80s, when Craig was still a raging alcoholic and performed under the name Bing Hitler. I don't know how close they are, but Craig often excitedly tells people that Hugh is his friend when House is mentioned during other interviews.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
My pleasure.
ReplyDeleteWaooo. That's fantastic ! 13 : 40 of talk, laughter and jokes, but nothing about HOUSE.
ReplyDeleteThat's great !
Thanks.
thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteIt seemed liked Hugh and Craig were not comfortable w/each other. I wonder why?

ReplyDeleteHe's still the best host of a network late show though. Only one I can stand to watch now that Conan is on TBS.
