Thanks to Bruce_F for the heads up.
suspect all non-Gleeks now can relax since Fox will never make another Glee 3D unless a few execs at 20th and 20th TV undergo lobotomies. The concert film opened in only 6th place Friday with $2.7M, then Saturday plunged -37% for just $1.7M which took the pic out of the Top 10 completely. Its $5.7M weekend from 2,040 theaters would be humiliating and downright disastrous if it hadn't been made for such a low budget -- around $9.5M to $9.7M, according to Ryan Murphy

I don't know if it will be released here, so I don't know if I'll be able to see it in cinemas... but if not, I think I'll see it at home... but I understand that many people are not interested in watching it... ;) so not really surprised about this! :P
ReplyDeletedon't watch glee..but It was made for the fans of the show not the whole nation, and isn't the movie good promotion for the fall?? I wouldn't exactly say that it flopped, IDK just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThere is a god after all!
ReplyDeleteGood point Lea93. Completely true. We can't exactly compare a concert movie for a specific group of people to something like the Harry Potter franchise.
ReplyDelete"...and isn't the movie good promotion for the fall??"
ReplyDeleteOnly if people go see it, which they didn't.
No one expected it to break records. It was, however, expected to do a respectable business at the box office which it didn't come close to doing.
ReplyDeleteIf the film was actually made for a select group of people, it would have either been straight-to-DVD or it would have been added as a feature on the season 2 box set. No one releases a 3D film nationwide expecting it to flop.
oh wel i do watch glee but am not that fond of 3d and to be honest, would love to see a concert more then a movie... of a concert [get's hard when you live in a foreign country [dutch]]
ReplyDeleteSorry about that but it's not really surprising. :/
ReplyDeleteI'm sure even with shiny new 3D cameras that it was a fairly cheap production compared to many releases. It might be interesting to know how much it cost to make the film compared to what they make..... meh. Probably not that interesting after all.
ReplyDeleteThat's the ONE upside to this. Even though the film flopped it probably won't lose money because it was made quite cheaply. (between 9.5 - 9.7 mil.)
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why they made a concert movie in the first place. They were touring this summer...so if you can choose between spending money on a real concert or the same thing in 3D... it's not really surprising that the film flopped. But at least it was cheap.
ReplyDeleteSo the Glee hype machine isn't completely unbreakable, that's good to know
ReplyDeleteRyan Murphy should stop thinking that Glee will become a Must-Everything... The show is bad already, so... calm down buddy.
ReplyDeletemies. The concert film opened in only 6th place Friday with $2.7M, then Saturday plunged -37% for just $1.7M which took the pic out of the Top 10 completely. Its $5.7M weekend from 2,040 theaters would be humiliating and downri
ReplyDeletewow give me 9 million and i make a better movie that he will ever make
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised, but as a bigtime GLEE fan, I'm disappointed. This failure more or less insures that there'll never be another GLEE film--and it may weaken the pull of the TV show as well. Beyond that, this flop on their resumes could lessen the cast members' chances of being hired for other gigs. This mess could kill Lea Michele's chances of being cast as Baby in the "Dirty Dancing" remake, which would be too bad.
ReplyDeletenot necessarily, promotions for the movie gives Glee the movie and the show more promotion... there have been trailers playing before other movies, on tv, on billboards, so many more people will be seeing and hearing about Glee. BTW definitely not going to see the movie, even though i like the show.
ReplyDeleteI watch Glee, but had no interest in seeing the movie. Most of the songs I've already heard in the episodes. It was just a money milking attempt.
ReplyDeleteLawl. That was pretty much all I had to say to this. I mean, mostly because really, did we need this movie? But also because... 3D? That's just silly.
ReplyDeleteDoes it mean that people heard Sue Sylvester's advice?
ReplyDeleteI think he underestimated how many people watch glee for reasons other than the songs (like me). I have no interest in seeing this.
ReplyDeleteI'm the show expert on the forum for glee, and I wasn't planning on going. Feel a little bad though.
ReplyDeleteThe movie is bad enough... but 3D was just a ridiculous money grab.... and yet another case of Murphy trying to be cutting edge.
ReplyDeletePWHAHAHHA! Of course its not gonna make money! what were you thinking murphy!
ReplyDeleteI must be a little sadistic or something because I'm enjoying this way too much.
ReplyDeleteI suppose not everything big on tv = big in the movies.
I think a glee movie could have work but cmon a glee tour when every crazy fan saw it ON THE TOUR... that was just stupid. I hope Murphy is pissed, yea... dont like him :S
ReplyDeleteI can't help but chuckle at this... About time Glee got a little bit of a hit :P I get fed up of people making rubbish and expecting to make money. Any wide cinema release of a concert in 3D is just a cash in... Glad they're getting less popular :P
ReplyDeleteI was recently at the cinema and the trailer for Glee came on.... at the end where Sue says something about "save your money this sucks" there was a chorus of "you bet it does" and "no argument from me"..... LOL!
ReplyDeleteLots of people are also getting disillusioned with 3d and the extra cost of 3d movie tickets... and this doesn't even have a cheaper 2d option.
I love the show but I don't let my daughter watch - she does like the music though and I did take her to see it. It is exactly what it says it is - a file of their concert - which is not a particularly huge draw to begin with. I was not expecting it to do well. I think they probably just should have done a PPV for those who were not able to go to the concert and it probably would have done better. We wanted tickets to the concert but the closest one was DC and the tickets were well over $200 on stub hub ... they can say it flopped but I'm pretty sure they came out way ahead on the concerts themselves.
ReplyDeletewhich advice? :/ XD
ReplyDeleteI really don't think this will effect Lea's chances of being cast (if she's even up for that role). Lea's less than stellar dancing is more likely to do that. Besides, this movie wasn't meant to show off anyone's acting talents, and studios know that. I don't think anyone will feel a noticeable impact on their careers because of it.
ReplyDeleteat the end of the trailer she says "save your money, this thing sucks"
ReplyDeleteOuch poor Glee
ReplyDeletewho wanna watch it with them cutting out so many important parts of the tour??!! I'll wait for the dvd. suck it haters!
ReplyDeleteI actually went. It was kind of disappointing. Occasionally strange song choices, didn't have very much focus. And it was too short IMO. Not worth the $11.50 I paid to see it.
ReplyDeleteI'm really not surprised!
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised, Glee is enough to bare when it is on TV.
ReplyDeleteoh, ok! hahaha I haven't seen the trailer! lol
ReplyDeleteNot surprised at all, the last season of glee was average, so I would not paid to see a over priced concert/movie
ReplyDeleteNot surprised at all. There are a lot of Glee fans, and that is probably all who is gonna see this movie, if they see it at all. Personally, I love Glee and would see the movie, but its too expensive and no one I know watches the show, so if I did see it I would be going alone.
ReplyDeletegreat now they'll never release it here
ReplyDelete*Late comment is late*
ReplyDeleteSee, when I first heard about the movie I thought "Oh awesome, they're going to show a movie on how they spent their summers!" But then I saw the promo and I snorted. I knew it would flop hard and Ryan would be backpedaling as fast as he could. I appreciate Glee for the story-line, a teacher takes a bunch of misfits and turns them into semi popular people, with a villain (Sue) thrown in, who turns out to be awesome.
