Author of of A Song of Ice and Fire series has released another Froggy casting clue titled:
"Across the Atlantic Sea"
From England, England hails this fellow, an ideal choice. He's been a madman, a nut, a spud, a martian, a king, and a slaver, he's gone up with a balloon and down with a ship. But why he is so sad when he's stroked so many women?
First thought was the title could mean it's an American being cast in the role......but second thought was that hailing from England, England makes that impossible....
The role may be Crastor "stroked so many women", but that is a loose connection at best.
My first thought is Bernard Hill who was a King in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Theoden), and was the Captain of the ship that went down in 'Titanic'.... but noone of the other hints come to mind... time for research!
***Update***
Lex at Winter-is-Coming supplied what looks to be the possible correct answer ... Ben Crompton.
From "Across the Atlantic Sea" and England, England hails this fellow, = The song Manchester, England from Hair the Musical.
"Manchester, England, England / Across the Atlantic sea / And I am a genius, genius…”"
Ben Crompton is a Mancunian too.
an ideal choice = was in the TV series 'Ideal'
He's been a madman = played Mad Al (King Jeff)
a nut = played William Nutt (Supicions of Mr. Whicher)
a spud = played Spud (Midsomer Murders)
a martian = played Martian X (Radio Mania)
a king = played King Mike (King Jeff short film)
a slaver = Played Hodge in The Slavery Business
he's gone up with a balloon = was in the film short 'Balloon'
and down with a ship = was in The Sinking of the Lusitania
Stroked so many women = Man Stroke Woman TV series he was on
The best guess is that "Why is he so sad" may refer to Dolorous Edd.
Eddison Tollet, better known as Dolorous Edd, is a member of the Night's Watch. He is the squire of Lord Commander Jeor Mormont.
Edd is very thin. He is dour, and grey-haired.
So is Ben Crompton our Edd?
The role may not be Dolorous Edd, but the person cast in our mystery role is almost certainly Ben Crompton with all that supporting evidence!
**UPDATE
Another casting puzzle solved by you sleuths out there.
"England, England" and "across the Atlantic Sea" are, of course, lines from the song from HAIR... and Manchester is the home town of not only Claude Hooper Bukowski, but also BEN CROMPTON, who will be playing the part of Dolorous Edd Tollett.
Ben has played Mad Al, a Nutt, a Spud. He's been in THE SINKING OF THE LACONIA and THE BALLOON and IDEAL. He played King Mike in KING JEFF, and a Martian in RADIO MANIA. And Dolorous Edd is a sad faced fellow, despite Ben's role in MAN STROKE WOMAN.
Congratulations to those who got it. And to those who missed... just wait, there will be another bus along shortly.

***UPDATE PART TWO***
In related “GOT” casting news, Karl Davies, who starred in the UK soap “Emmerdale,” has signed on as Alton Lannister, HBO confirmed to Access Hollywood. Alton is not in the books by author George R. R. Martin, and no character description was immediately available.

"Up in a balloon" makes me think of Rhys Ifans in Danny Deckchair.... and Michael Palin in Around th World in 80 Days.
ReplyDeleteWow when it rains it pours GoT casting news!
ReplyDeleteEdd is so fun, despite beign a downer.... I think Crompton should be good if his Mr Whicher appearance is any representation of his skills.
Never seen Karl Davies in anything... and never heard of Alton Lannister.... Ha!
Not sure what to think on either count, but welcome to the Game of Thrones cast!!
thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think it's 99% the person cast is Ben Crompton with all that evidence... just not sure on the role yet.
ReplyDeleteCrompton looks really familiar, but after checking his imdb site I must say the only I thing I watched with him was Ideal and I only saw 2 or 3 episodes of that show.
ReplyDeleteStickoxydal Stix, do you have admin rights to edit other people's posts? I uploaded the NBC Fall preview video to the site since the NBC.com one had region blocks, but I can't edit other peoples posts....
ReplyDeleteBen does look like a good fit for Dolorous Edd, GRRM I guess will confirm it if it right
ReplyDeleteI've watched some episodes of Kingdom which was pretty good. I plan on continuing with it some time soon. Davies was quite good in it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting series?
ReplyDeleteI looked at IMDB and saw Stephen Fry and Hermione Norris and I like both of them quite a bit.
yeah it is a good guess I think!
ReplyDeleteIt's not Breaking Bad good, but a light hearted dramedy that's fun to watch.
ReplyDeletelol I love how they gave us clues and let us try to guess who and which character is going to be!! if it's Edd, I remember him! LOL :P
ReplyDeleteWhew! Glad you remember him! XD
ReplyDeleteThat's the fun thing about GRRM's world in ASOIAF honestly.... of those more than 750 characters in his 5 books, It's almost a guarantee that some one out there loves each one to an almost fanatical level! From the charismatic Brynden 'Blackfish' Tully to Donal Noye, the one-armed blacksmith at Castle Black, or of course Dolorous Edd.
It was time for me to remember somebody before I get banned ! XDDDD
ReplyDeleteIt's strange but certainly, there must be people who remember a character someone don't almost know it exists... that reminds me of something a friend told me some days ago. xD When a friend of hers started to read the books, she was kinda crazy because of all the characters. So she decided to do a list and write down every name she read (although there is an index at the end of the book) and cross out a name when that person died. She told me this because one day she was looking how her friend was reading one of the books and began to write down a lot of names and a minute later, she crossed out all of them XD I think it'd be a paragraph in which a lot of characters were named, to, in a line after, said they were dead! XD i sometimes hate GRRM for doing that XD it's like... what? you just invented 10 names to now say they were dead!?!?!? insane! hahaha! :P
sorry for this long post xD I'll understand if you didn't read it till the end XD
I mistook him for Joseph Mazzello.
ReplyDeleteThey look a bit alike in these pictures:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2419232768/nm0001515
I have to say I enjoy GRRMs clues a lot more than the ones from American Horror. Not that I've had better luck solving them mind you!
ReplyDeleteWhichever one it is, it's going to be great!
