Game of Thrones - Mo Ryan Interview with GRRM Part 1

Aug 11, 2011

Here's another interview with GRRM about Game of Thrones Season one.

I'm on vacation this week and next, but thanks to the magic of technology, I've pre-posted a two-part interview with George R.R. Martin, the man behind the books that are being adapted into HBO's 'Game of Thrones' series. Martin and I conversed at Comic-Con, and I've edited and slightly condensed that chat into two main parts.

Martin not only created the 'Song of Ice and Fire' book series on which the HBO drama is based ('A Game of Thrones' is the first book of that series, and the fifth tome, 'A Dance with Dragons,' is the most recent), he was also a co-executive producer on the first season of the show, all of which gives him a special perspective on all things 'GoT,' which just won Best New Drama at the Television Critics Awards.

In Part 1 of the interview, Martin talks about the various subsections of his fandom, responses to the TV adaptation by HBO and "sexposition," a word that was invented by critic Myles McNutt during the first season of 'GoT.'

  1. A bit odd as far as the GRRM interviews I've read.... Towards the end it seems that Mo Ryan is actually speaking MORE than George R. R. Martin, the person she is interviewing...

  2. I love Mo, she is probably my favourite TV critic and her love for GOT and the books is fantastic.

  3. Yep, she and Hibberd at EW have been fantastic promoting Game of Thrones!

  4. According to an interview with her , Oona Chaplin (yes Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter) has a role in Game of Thrones.

Thinking of the female roles left in Season Two, four seem to be the most promising: Alayaya, Jeyne Westerling, Meera Reed and Quaithe.

My mental image of Meera fits but she is supposed to be 16 I think. Quaithe is a small role and might work...  No clue.

  5. Thanks, interesting reading, a bit strange that toward the end GRRM is talking less than the interviewer but still good

  6. I much prefer Sepinwall, Jace (Televisionary), and Myles McNutt, although I think that Mo is a very interesting critic/read with regards to GoT in that she was probably the harshest of them.
